Characters of the Archie Sonic the Hedgehog comic book series who're allied with the Freedom Fighters

[[foldercontrol]]

!! Main Stays
Characters introduced in the TV Series and thus are part of both universes pre- and post-Super Genesis Wave[[note]]And likewise sparing them from the lawsuit[[/note]].

[[folder: Sir Charles Hedgehog/"Uncle Chuck"]]
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0fc31589672b94ace36922ad5c880a95.png]]

Sonic's uncle, who was roboticized when Sonic was very young. He invented the roboticizer as a medical tool, only for Robotnik to sabotage it. After toiling away for years as an automaton, an accident granted him free will and he became a spy for the Freedom Fighters. He, and most of the other roboticized citizens, eventually returned to flesh and blood. He spent his time creating inventions in secret while serving as a member of the Council of Acorn. He now operates as a field scientist, respected scholar, and de-facto "Uncle" of the Freedom Fighters.

As of Issue #254, Sir Charles Hedgehog is now Dr. Chuck the Hedgehog, AKA Uncle Chuck. His story seems to be roughly the same as the old universe, save that he wasn't roboticized and is not blood-related to Sonic.

* TheAtoner: See MyGreatestFailure for why Chuck feels this way.
* BadassBookworm
* BadassMustache: And eyebrows.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Part of his initial roboticization, and then again later after Eggman's rise to power. He snapped out of it both times.
* CoolOldGuy
* CosmicRetcon: Due to a mandate against SEGA characters having families, he and Sonic were not related by blood anymore in the reboot. He instead became a HonoraryUncle.
* GadgeteerGenius
* HonoraryUncle: Everyone refers to him as "Uncle Chuck". His relationship with Sonic in the reboot was changed from being his actual uncle to this trope.
* MiniatureSeniorCitizens: He used to be pretty short compared to the younger King Max.
* TheMole: Under the reign of the original Robotnik.
* MyGreatestFailure: Attempted to save his brother's life by roboticizing him, only for him to become a soulless automaton and for Charles to resign in failure. Later got worse, after Robotnik used it to enslave him and the populace.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Invented the roboticizer. Issue 50 revealed that he and his brother brought Julian Kintobor to King Max in the first place. That and a flashback in the Iron Queen arc revealed that they chased down a young Regina (Iron Queen) sometime prior.
* NotThatKindOfDoctor: When he advises Sonic to see a doctor after inhaling the mystery gas, Sonic snarks back that he ''did''. Chuck clarifies that he meant a ''medical'' doctor.
* OnlySaneMan
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: As a member of the Council of Acorn pre-reboot, he was one of the more reasonable members, rarely acting on petty grudges and calling out Rosemary when she considers instating Ixis Naugus as King. While he does vote to exile Nicole from New Mobotropolis with the others, he nonetheless gives a SmileOfApproval when a disgusted Rotor resigns in protest.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: At first. Then again after being brought back into Robotnik's thrall after issue #75.
* TheSmartGuy
* [[PapaWolf Uncle Wolf]]: Don't mess with his nephew.
* UnwillingRoboticisation: Not the first to fall victim to his own creation, and certainly wasn't the last.

[[folder: Ben "Mutt" Muttski]]
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f3fd77ba74bfb2cb77a8aacb26edaa13.png]]
[[caption-width-right:300:"That's my name! Don't wear it out!"]]

Formerly Sonic the Hedgehog's proud [[FurryConfusion regular-dog]] companion Muttski the Super Genesis Wave has transformed him into a "normal" dog. He's also Uncle Chuck's apprentice.

* AscendedExtra: From Sonic's loyal companion to Uncle Chuck's assistant. He had already gone from a one-episode cameo in [=SatAM=] to a full-fledged pet, and now he's a character proper. What a way to go.
* CheerfulChild: Could give Tails a run for his money in this department.
* ChildProdigy: He has a long way to go to reach Tails' level, but considering his mentor he'll most likely get there.
* NoWaterProofingInTheFuture: Averted Pre-Reboot. When playing with the Roboticized Muttski, Sonic worries for him after he dives into a lake to retrieve a stick. Though his metal body's weight is an issue, Robians are built to be water-proof (as are a number of Robotnik's acquatic robots) and he's able to get back to the surface on his own power.
* SuddenlyVoiced: Though he's a fully voiced and sentient Mobian after the reboot, before it he was a more ordinary dog. That said, after Sonic recieves some TranslatorMicrobes from his time in space, he returns to Mobius to find Muttski talking to him, claiming he could always do that. Though nobody else can understand him but Sonic, Muttski recieves more character through his interactions.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Dulcy the Dragon]]
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sth281_chun_nanff_dulcy_resize.png]]

A [[OurDragonsAreDifferent Mobian dragon]]. Separated from her mother during Robotnik's coup, Dulcy grew up alongside the Freedom Fighters and served as both a comrade and a source of air transport. After CommutingOnABus for several years, she was reunited with her fellow dragons, and has made infrequent appearances as of late.

In the new universe, Dulcy was originally from Chun-nan, having run away her home and meeting the Freedom Fighters following Doctor Eggman's coup of the Kingdom of Acorn. She eventually returned to her homeland and established her own group of (newbie) Freedom Fighters to try and hold off Eggman's influence in the area.

* AdaptationalIntelligence: Was TheDitz in ''[[WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM SatAM]]''. Despite retaining a few qualities early on, she has knowledge of various legends and can sense when someone is lying.
* BigFun: Old-universe Dulcy is huge for a dragon her size but fun to be around.
* BreathWeapon
* TheBusCameBack: She appears in Issue 281 as a Mobian Dragon leading a Freedom Fighter team.
* CannotTellALie Which allows her to [[LivingLieDetector sense the purity of truth]].
* CommutingOnABus: Pre-reboot, she tended to disappear for long periods of time (largely because the writers didn't seem to know what to do with her), only to pop up at the most unexpected times.
* ADayInTheLimelight: Mike Gallagher penned a two part special focusing on Dulcy and her past in issues 155 and 156.
* DemotedToExtra: The final years of the original universe largely relegated her to making the occasional cameo.
* DomesticAbuse: She once began a relationship with another dragon named Zan, who was heavily implied to be rough with her. To make matters worse, he was killed by the Station Square forces, denying her closure for this.
* GiantFlyer: She positively towers over the main Freedom Fighters, standing at least as tall as Big the Cat. Pre-reboot Dulcy was even bigger.
* AnIcePerson: She can breathe an ice beam from her nose.
* [[LastOfHisKind Last Of Her Kind]]: Thanks to Robotnik, she is quickly approaching this.
* LivingLieDetector: Mobian Dragons CannotTellALie, which also allows them to sense the purity of truth. Come the Endgame arc, it's established that this is public knowledge, so when Dulcy informs Geoffrey and Knuckles that Sonic's claims that he didn't kill Sally and was framed by Robotnik are true, she's instantly believed. Oddly enough, this trope was [[NewPowersAsThePlotDemands used for that specific moment]] and was forgotten ever since.
* MissingMom: Her mother (unnamed currently, but was known as 'Sabina' in ''[[WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM SatAM]]'') is still around in the new universe, but has yet to be introduced.
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: "AsYouKnow, [[CannotTellALie they cannot lie.]]" While she's based originally on a Western dragon, other dragons based on Eastern dragons have appeared as well. Follwing the Super Genesis Wave, Dulcy is now an Eastern Dragon.
* PlayingWithFire: Like all dragons, she can breathe fire from her mouth. However, after her exile, she was forced to wear a magic ring that sealed her powers. She resumes her ability with its destruction in issue 156.
* RememberTheNewGuy: Though the comic does a better job explaining how the Freedom Fighters met her than ''[[WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM SatAM]]'' did, she was still essentially introduced out of the blue this way. In the new universe, her reintroduction to the plot is much more fleshed out via flashback.
* SelfMadeOrphan: Dulcy's clan, including her mother, were all roboticized. Years later she would lead the defense of one of the last Dragon strongholds, and ultimately they were forced to kill all of the Robian dragons, Dulcy's mother included. The realization hurts, especially because so many Robians had been restored and reunited with their families while Dulcy was never able to. There is a small comfort though, as Dragon spirits are immortal any dead dragon would reincarnate in the future generations.
* SixthRanger: She takes over the role and the previous sixth ranger, Bunnie, is moved to the main cast. Dulcy was never a "main" Freedom Fighter, but she was always player in the stories often popping in and out to help the heroes or to have her own small arcs.
* WalkingTheEarth: The Encyclopedia explained her frequent absences by saying that she was away exploring Mobius.
* YouDontLookLikeYou: Her design in the new universe removes her nose ring, and makes her an anthropomorphic dragon.
* YourSizeMayVary: Her size in the old universe often fluctuated between artists, sometimes even within the same artist. She could range from being only twice as tall as the Mobian characters to almost being a mini-kaiju. Post-reboot, she was more consistently portrayed as the former, roughly the same height as Big the Cat.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Wolf Pack]]

A nomadic band of wolves in the old universe that traveled around the desert region of Mobeius led by husband and wife Lupo and Lupe. After the 2nd Eggman War they returned to their homeland to form the Wolf Pack Nation. Lyco and Leeta were originally part of this bunch before being recruited by Harvey Owl to form the Secret Freedom Fighters (See further down for tropes on them). Drago likewise was part of this group as well before betraying them (See ''Eggman Empire'' on him).

In the new universe, Eggman attacked their original village in the Thunder Plans zone and Lupe lost her father during it. The Freedom Fighters managed to help ward them off and Sally convinced Lupe to keep fighting, after which the Wolf Pack became an ally to the Freedom Fighters in their resistance against Eggman.

----

!! Lupe
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/s277_lupe03_resize.png]]

The leader of the Wolf Pack, initially in the old universe she stepped down and let her husband Lobo take over when assuming the duties as the Grand Chief of the Wolf Pack Nation. In the new one, she's back to being the leader as well as one of the Guardians of the Gaia Temples.

----

* AgeLift: Pre-reboot Lupe was married and had two children. Post-reboot Lupe appears to be around the same age as Sonic and Sally.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: In the new universe, Sally had to convince her to keep fighting for the sake of her people even though she lost her father.
* TheLeader: Again the leader of her pack. She hand leadership over to her husband for a time before becoming the Grand Chief of the Wolf Pack Nation.
* MamaBear: In the old universe, was definitely this toward her kids (both blood born and adopted).
* UnwillingRoboticisation: Had this pulled on her in the old universe when Robotnik captured her people, though somewhat subverted since she chose to be roboticized to save them. She managed to resist enough to save those remaining but ultimately succumbed to the brainwashing. Luckily she was eventually freed from it's effects and later restored to flesh.
* YouDidntAsk: When Sonic finds out she was a guardian of a Gaia Temple, he jokes he was surprised at the discovery. She wryly responds he never asked her.

!!!The Pack
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sth277_wolfpack_resize.png]]

* HappilyAdopted: In the old universe they, had two Overlander girls with them that they found during their travels. Lupe took the two in and raised them as their own, though it took a bit of convincing, given the history of the Great War.
* RaisedByWolves: Quite literally with the two Overlander girls.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: With the Felide clan since, not surprisingly, they're made up of cats.

!! New Universe Characters (Post Genesis Wave)

[[folder: Razor the Shark]]
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f006c86d6fcd45f07d1f54e26051ba83.png]]

A temperamental but well-meaning shark who works as a bodyguard for the Chao shrine priests in Meropis.

* BodyguardCrush: To Coral though he won't admit it.
* BoxedCrook: [[spoiler: He became Coral's bodyguard because it was the only way to avoid being arrested or hanged for his crimes as a pirate. A position he doesn't mind having as he really doesn't like his former pirate crew. Being near the one who saved him was a major plus as well.]]
* CainAndAbel: The Abel to his sister, Blade's, Cain. Blade believes purely in taking what hers regardless of who has to get hurt. Razor on the other hand, found something better in being Coral's bodyguard and thus believes the world isn't as cruel as his sister tries to justify it to be. We also find that while Razor has a bit of an adventurous side and likes the thrill of a treasure hunt. Blade finds it boring and likes it better when hurting people much to his disgust.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler: His sister, Blade, and he were orphans and forced to survive on their own. Abyss, before she joined Eggman, took the pair in as part of their crew which eventually became Shellbreaker's after she took her fleet with her to the Eggman Empire. Razor turned against the crew when they raided a medical ship and intended to sell the medicine back to those it was intended for. He was badly wounded, escaped overboard, drifted to Meropis where Coral both healed and saved him from being arrested by her kingdom for his piracy. He's been trying to make amends since.]]
* DefectorFromDecadence: [[spoiler: Used to be in a pirate crew, but left them when they started doing amoral actions that were putting lives in danger.]]
* {{Disownment}}: He ultimately disowns Blade as his sister when it's clear she gotten too bloodthirsty to be a truly caring sibling.
* HairTriggerTemper: Very easy to provoke, as you can imagine Sonic and he don't get along at first.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold
* IOweYouMyLife: Part of the reason he's so loyal to Coral; [[spoiler: if she hadn't intervened he would have faced terrible punishment for being a pirate]].
* KnifeNut: His weapon of choice is a dagger.
* TheGambler: Side panels during the ''Champions'' arc see him wagering fights, betting on the winning side for the most part (He even wins against ''his king''). Ironically he winds up losing his winnings to ''Pearly'' of all people.
* ThreateningShark: Averted, he's one of the good guys, if still a rather aggressive one.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Coral the Betta]]
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1649a992f24de0e30b5b9f737cd40cb4.png]]

* BarrierMaiden: Her power keeps the shield over her city, Meropis, safe. If she can't concentrate, it goes down.
* DoesNotLikeShoes: Though must of her kind don't seem to wear them either.
* HeroicBSOD: Has one when she it seems she can't get in contact with her clan's great spirit and think it has rejected her. Eventually she's proven wrong when it turns the negative energy from Dark Gaia was mucking up communication.
* {{Miko}}: Fills the role at least as she's in charge of awakening the great spirit which turns out to be an angel chao.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Pearly the Manta Ray]]
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/modern_allies_merpolis_pearlymantaray_resize.png]]

* TheApprentice: An apprentice priest to Coral.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Admits to Amy she's afraid of Chao despite the fact they're friendly. Amy has to convince her to put her fear aside to lead them to safety.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Master Moss]]
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e41eba68132de5701cd0c4e13649e617.png]]

A zen master sloth who, in the Post Genesis Wave universe, taught Mighty the Armadillo how to channel and hone his incredible strength. After Sonic's Werehog form is unleashed, he helps the hedgehog learn how to control the dark transformation.

* ActualPacifist: Never fights, even when helping out the Freedom Fighters.
* BadassPacifist: He has great strength and speed, but chooses to never use those gifts for violence.
* CoolOldGuy: Gives this vibe, though we don't know how old he actually is.
* TheMentor: Serves as Mighty's mentor. He also helps Sonic learn as well.
* SuperSpeed: A ''very'' surprising example to say the least. While he may be a zen and chill '''sloth''', he's able to match Sonic's superspeed by ''vine-swinging.''
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Professor Dillon Pickle]]
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sth259_profpickle_c.png]]

An absent-minded professor from Spagonia, and a long-time friend to Charles Hedgehog. Pickle was kidnapped by Eggman following his reseach into the Gaia manuscripts, forcing the Freedom Fighters to mount a rescue operation. His research provides a path to save the Shattered World for good.

* AbsentMindedProfessor: Oh my, yes. He evidently didn't get the memo to be scared or angered at being kidnapped by a true [[MadScientist evil scientist.]]
* BerserkButton: Hiding history from others. He gets extremely and uncharacteristically upset when he learns that an old friend of his was a Gaia Temple guardian and hid that fact.
* BigOlEyebrows: So big they effectively hide his eyes at all times!
* PunnyName: '''Dill'''on '''Pickle'''
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Is always asking for some tasty cucumber sandwiches to nosh.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Dr. Ellidy]]
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/55aed41faf42de4e41ed7afa98025df8.png]]

Nicole's creator post-Genesis Wave. He has removed himself from normal society and lives by himself, using repurposed badniks for everyday chores.

* BigDamnHeroes: Just as the Phage-controlled Badniks and Dark Gaia are about to overwhelm Big and Tails and burst into his control room while Nicole is struggling to lock Phage out of his system. He puts in a red ring in her control panel at the last moment which gives Nicole her Overclocked form and more then enough power to complete her task, thus saving everyone.
* BrainUploading: He has invented a device that uploads a persons brain temporarily into a digital world. Theoretically, one's powers are infinite there, but limited by the abilities one thinks one should have.
* {{Expy}}: Ellidy's knowledge of Rings, [[spoiler:his old scientific position in the Kingdom of Acorn, and his exile (even if different)]] bring Nate Morgan from the original continuity to mind.
* GrumpyOldMan: Comes off a bit cold and aloof at first, especially towards NICOLE, though there are past demons that justify this and the Dark Gaia influence doesn't help.
* TheHermit: Lives by himself.
* MundaneUtility: How others view his use of re-purposed Eggman robots for gardening and surveillance. [[spoiler: It nearly comes back to bite him when Phage takes over the system and turns them against the Freedom Fighters and him.]]
* MyGreatestFailure: [[spoiler: Being unable to save his daughter, Nikki, with the brain uploading program which inadvertently created Nicole. It's the reason for his hostility toward her whom he feels is mocking Nikki's memory by (unknowingly) taking her form. He does mellow out after Sally chastises him for not seeing Nicole as her own person rather then just a A.I.]]
* WellIntentionedExtremist: [[spoiler:He uploaded his daughter's brain into a computer to save her, but all it did was create Nicole, a seperate entity, and kill his daughter. Though the comic implies that there might still be some traces of Nikki that become Nicole later on though her interaction with Sally. So, in a way, he may have succeeded, just not the way he envisioned.]]
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: [[spoiler:He ''really'' doesn't like Nicole being around as it horribly reminds him of his lost daughter. He goes out of his way to essentially shun her, but starts to realize the error of his ways after Sally delivers the following below.]]
* WhatTheHellHero: Sally gives him a major one [[spoiler: for suggesting shutting down his system to purge Phage from it but in doing so would delete Nicole, whose likewise in the system at the time, as well and trying to justify it by stating she's just another A.I. program.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Honey the Cat]]
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ecc80a9dfa4a9232d87a599fcbe0b055.png]]

The founder, CEO, and designer of Honey Brand Clothes and Accessories.

* CombatPragmatist: She can be surprisingly devious in a fight. In her fight against Tails during the Chaos Emerald Championship, she starts out with a seemingly friendly handshake, then tightens her grip to pull him in for a kick to the gut. She tries it again on Sonic but he recovers fast enough and manages to avoid the attack that knocked out Tails since he saw it before.
* DealWithTheDevil: After the tournament, she makes a deal with Breezie to distribute her clothing line to Breezie's businesses while Breezie promotes her. Acknowledged though, as Honey does use the opportunity to call Breezie out on her actions during the tournament and she later seems mildly regretful.
* FlashStep: Her "Shadow Sneak" technique is a short but intense burst of speed that creates [[SpeedEchoes afterimages]]. She presumably gained the ability to do it by just [[CharlesAtlasSuperPower training that hard in martial arts.]] Not quite as fast as Sonic of course.
* GenkiGirl: Gets rather hyperactive and playful at times, which tends to catch those around her offguard.
* GirlyBruiser: She may be a GirlyGirl who loves to sell clothing, but she really packs a wallop.
* GracefulLoser: Granted she agreed to throw the fight and her battle against Sonic was more like a sparring session. When he does defeat her though, she's very impressed and compliments him.
* HonestCorporateExecutive: What sets her apart from [[CorruptCorporateExecutive Breezie]]. Her label is highly successful thanks to her efforts (which don't seem to go much further than big PR events and lots of business partnerships), and while she's big on promoting her brand, she's more than willing to step down when something serious is at stake.
* LookBehindYou: Weaponized, this is how she defeated Tails in their match.
* MythologyGag: Her job as a fashion designer and joining a fighting tournament to promote herself is based off of her original story from ''VideoGame/FightingVipers'', the game her character originally came from.
* NiceGirl: Despite her social status, she seems quite friendly and amiable when she meets others. She only wants to advertise her company, and agrees to give Sonic and co. the Chaos Emerald if she wins.
* NotSoDifferent: Breezie tries to invoke this when Honey calls her out on involving Metal Sonic and the Hooligans for the sake of getting rich. She claims Honey will "see her way soon enough" by pointing out the less-than-clean tactics she used against Tails. Honey is clearly troubled by this.
* PluckyGirl: Described as an "obnoxious overachiever" by WordOfGod. Apparently got into martial arts because she thought it was cool and wanted something to do, ya know, on top of being a fashion designer and running her own company.
* ProductPlacement: An in-universe example; she's only participating in the fighting tournament to promote her company.
* ShamelessSelfPromoter: She is, in her own words, "all about self-promotion". Unlike many instances of the trope, she's less so narcissistic and more just highly confident and enthusiastic.
* SpeedEchoes: Appear whenever she uses her [[FlashStep Shadow Sneak]].
* ThrowingTheFight: Does this against Sonic so that he can save the world. Not to say that the two don't "give the audience a show" and she surprisingly doesn't make the victory easy for Sonic.
* TheTrickster: Appears to lean into this at times in combat, despite her otherwise NiceGirl nature. Her signature technique involves creating afterimages, and to win against Tails she deliberately tricks him with a LookBehindYou to win, smiling the whole thing off.
* YouDontLookLikeYou: A minor example, as her clothes are simplified from her game counterpart to make drawing her easier and so that she fits in better with the modern designs.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Gemerl the Gizoid]]
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gemerl_resize_b.png]]

An ancient robot rebuilt by Eggman to serve as an enforcer, only to be re-reprogramed by Tails into a bodyguard for Cream and Cheese. Introduced into the comic during the ''Worlds Unite'' crossover.

* BigDamnHeroes: Pulls this off during ''ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehogMegaManWorldsUnite'', vowing to make M'Egga Man "rest in peace" for disrupting the peace.
* CompositeCharacter: Though he's a character from the games, he's inherited some of Shard the Metal Sonic's personality.
* CoolOldGuy: As a Gizoid he's easily one of the oldest characters in the comic.
* {{Expy}}: Likely a replacement for Shard due to the latter's legal issues.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: Has one with Cream.
* MookFaceTurn: Robotnik used him as a brutish henchman. After being beaten, Tails rescued/fixed him and Gemerl's been a good guy ever since.
* TheBusCameBack: Meta example, his last appareance was in Sonic Advance 3, the same game he was introduced, and was never mentioned again despite living with Cream. After a decade, he finally came back in comic form.
* TheWorfEffect: He puts up a better fight then the others against M'Egga Man in ''Worlds Unite'' who even compliments him. But unfortunately is quickly taken out.

!! Regional Freedom Fighter Teams

Other Freedom Fighter Teams set up around the world to defend against Eggman's tyranny.

[[folder: Woodland Kingsmen (Avalon Freedom Fighters)]]
Originally known as the ''Crazy Critters'', the Freedom Fighters of Mercia and led by Rob 'O the Hedge. Changed to Avalon after the Super Genesis Wave, now led by Bow Sparrow.
----

!!Bow Sparrow
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/modern_ff_bow_avalon_resize18.png]]

The Freedom Fighter that initially lead in Rob o' the Hedge's stead when he and his family went into hiding following an assassination attempt. Revealed that he made it into the new universe and likely now the full time leader.
----
* {{Expy}}: To Rob, since the lawsuit meant they could never use him again. They have a lot of the same quirks. The rest of the team is this to Robin Hood's Merry Men.
* TheArcher: Main weapon of choice.
* TheLeader: Of the Crazy Critters[=/=]Avalon Freedom Fighters in Rob's absence. Carried over into the reboot.

!!!Avalon Freedom Fighters
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/modern_allies_avalonff_resize.png]]
* {{Expy}}: While Bow and Thorn are this to former members Rob'O and Mari-An (Who, in turn, were expies of Robin Hood and Maid Marion), the rest of the Avalon Freedom Fighters were this to Robin Hood's Merry Men.
-Alan Quail = Alan O'Dale

-Friar Buck = Friar Tuck

-Munch Rat = Much, the Miller's Son

[[folder: Desert Raiders (Shamar Freedom Fighters)]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shamarffgroup_resize.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Spike (left); Sonar (center); Trevor Burrow (right)]]

Freedom Fighters of Shamar. Sonic's actions inspired them to create a group based on his. Composed of Spike the Porcupine, Sonar the Fennec, and Trevor Burrow the Mole. While initially seen as allies, it's revealed they're actually working with Nephthys the vulture, one of Eggman's Egg Bosses.
----
* AntiVillain: Though they're friends of Nephthys, they're not bad people, just misguided into thinking that a balance of power is preferable to Shamar getting involved in the fights between the Freedom Fighters and Eggman Empire.
* AscendedFanboy: Spike seems to be a fan of Sonic; he's styled himself after the Blue Blur and looks like he's about to shout from joy when he meets Sonic for the first time.
* {{Expy}}: A multi-layered example. In-universe, the trio styled themselves after Team Sonic. Meta-wise, they partially take up the role the Sand Blasters from the previous continuity had (the desert team who idolized Sonic, but were evil themselves). Where the "partiality" ends concerns [[Main/BrokenPedestal how the Sand Blasters eventually came to view Sonic]].
* TheMole: All three of them work for Nephthys, who serves under Eggman.
* NominalImportance: Trevor Burrow is the only member with a last name.
* SuperSenses: Trevor Burrow has the ability to sense and read vibrations through touching the walls or ground.
* VisualPun: They have a mole within their group which counts as a tip off to their true nature.

[[folder: Shijin Warriors (Chun-nan Freedom Fighters)]]
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sth281_chun_nanff_shijintempleresize.png]]
[[caption-width-right:300:Cinder (left); Jian (center); Bunker (right)]]

A team led by Dulcy the Dragon, it consists of Jian the Tiger, Bunker the Tortoise, and Cinder the Pheasant.
----
* AmazonBrigade: All of its members are girls.
* HeelFaceTurn: Jian is a former member of the Yurashia Egg Army group. She also acknowledges that Conquering Storm is a very capable Egg Boss.
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: They're all deserters from their clans since said clans either joined up with Conquering Storm or too busy squabbling with each to focus on the greater threat.
* TheFourGods: A tiger, a tortoise, a dragon, and a pheasent. The phoenix is guarding the Gaia Temple.

[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0fc31589672b94ace36922ad5c880a95.png]]

Sonic's uncle, who was roboticized when Sonic was very young. He invented the roboticizer as a medical tool, only for Robotnik to sabotage it.

* BadassBookworm
* BadassMustache: And eyebrows.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Part of his initial roboticization, and then again later after Eggman's rise to power. He snapped out of it both times.
* CoolOldGuy
* CosmicRetcon: Due to a mandate against SEGA characters having families, he and Sonic were not related by blood anymore in the reboot. He instead became a HonoraryUncle.
* GadgeteerGenius
* OnlySaneMan
* TheSmartGuy

* BreathWeapon

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold

* PunnyName: '''Dill'''on '''Pickle'''
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Is always asking for some tasty cucumber sandwiches to nosh.

* TheHermit: Lives by himself.
* WhatTheHellHero: Sally gives him a major one [[spoiler: for suggesting shutting down his system to purge Phage from it but in doing so would delete Nicole, whose likewise in the system at the time, as well and trying to justify it by stating she's just another A.I. program.]]

!! Old Universe Characters (Pre-Genesis Wave)
Characters from the original universe before issue #252. These characters most likely are permanently erased from the new timeline thanks to the Super Genesis Wave. And also because of the Penders lawsuit.

[[folder: Geoffrey St. John]]
[[quoteright:216:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/GeoffreyStJohn01_316.jpg]]

A skunk. Formerly the leader of a [[LaResistance rebel group]] allied with the Freedom Fighters, he went on to become head of the Royal Secret Service. Had a hatred for Overlanders.

A Ken Penders creation and thus was exempted from the comic due to legal issues.
----
* AntiVillain: Of the WellIntentionedExtremist type after what happened to Sally and after Naugus became the new king. When he realized that Naugus wanted to control the council, he hated the idea and he wanted no part of it. However, Naugus informed him that no one would trust him if he tried to double-cross him considering the things he did to get to where he was. He admits to Silver that what he has done is wrong, but that it's too late for him to change and that he doesn't have a future. His heart was in the right place, but he wasn't aware that Naugus was EvilAllAlong until it was too late and it ended up with him [[spoiler: being possessed by him]] and his story arc unfinished.
* ArcherArchetype: His WeaponOfChoice is a wrist mounted crossbow.
* AssholeVictim: A non-lethal version, mixed with PutOnABus, unfortunately.
* BadassInANiceSuit: Has been known to wear a sharp-looking suit from time to time.
* BadassNormal: His skills come entirely from training. Until it's revealed he's an Ixis Wizard, that is. That said, his combat skills aren't entirely reliant on magic.
* BigDamnHeroes: During Iron Dominion.
* CastingAShadow: Has shadow powers as a result of being Naugus' apprentice.
* DemonicPossession: [[spoiler: Courtesy of Naugus]].
* ElementalShapeshifter[=/=]SuperSmoke: He can turn himself into smoke.
* EveryoneHasStandards: Back when he was a hero he had his principles.
** When he finally corners Sonic, Dulcy stands up for him. He fully accepts Sonic's innocence as even if he does hate him, dragons are pure of heart and he trusts Dulcy.
** He was always suspicious of the Robians but he would also hear them out. When they bring a case to King Acorn, the King demands them all dismantled. He tries to have him reconsider the action only for the King to crack him over the head with his staff.
* EvenEvilHasStandards:
** In issue 235 he admits that while he isn't always trustworthy, he does respect his adversaries as he paid his respects for Antoine who was went into a coma. He even admits that what happened to Sally and Antoine isn't what he wanted and sympathizes with Sonic over what happened with Sally.
** [[spoiler:He's horrified to learn in Universe 43 that Naugus plans to mentally enslave the council, an equivalent of roboticization. He believes that some lines need to be crossed to make things change, but Naugus' plan just goes too far.]]
* EvilAllAlong: He's been the apprentice of Ixis Naugus since the days of the Great War.
* EvilSorcerer: Light shades of this after his FaceHeelTurn.
* FaceHeelTurn: Subverted. Geoffery was ''always'' Naugus's apprentice, and has been working to make him the king all this time.
* FantasticRacism:
** He, like many other Mobians, doesn't trust anyone who was roboticized. Even during the war with Robotnik, he saw Charles as a potential traitor especially with Snoop's betrayal.
** He hates Overlanders with a passion, because they were responsible for the death of his father.
* {{Foil}}:
** To Sonic, being more level-headed to a degree and also sharing his pridefulness but nowhere near his level humility and understanding.
** While Sonic is his main rival, he has a lot in common with Antoine; both relying on weapon skills rather than any super-powers, both had feelings for Sally that ultimately lead them to become the RomanticRunnerUp, and both place a strong importance on their families that heavily influences the paths they'd go down. Their similarities have even played a role in fostering a resentment between them and their arcs (Antoine following in his father's footsteps to serve the realm, his hidden anger at the loss of his father making him go to the dark side) end up as a kind of mirror to each other.
* GoodIsNotNice: He had a bad habit of being really smug and a smart-ass to allies more often than enemies. He lessens after marrying Hershey and when things go from bad to worse because of him he drops the smugness and really starts to beat himself down.
** He doesn't care about the collateral damage from his actions, unless the damage affects him on a personal level. When he was bargaining with Mammoth Mogul to restore Naugus, he told Mogul that his casino would see an influx of business from the residents of New Mobotropolis getting away from the misery they'd get from Naugus' rule, and that Sonic would be miserable. Also consider that he formed his old secret service team using people with spotty pasts, including Hershey, so that he could frame them if his plans fell apart.
* HappilyMarried: To Hershey. At least he was, before she is presumed dead under fishy circumstances. See "Interspecies Romance" below.
* HeelFaceDoorSlam: With the reboot, he'll always be an Ixian apprentice and will never break away from the mistakes of his past.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: He's been sent on missions of his own several times, most of which we never see.
* HeroSecretService: Once head of the Royal Secret Service.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler:Got betrayed twice by Naugus, once during "Secret Freedom" and when he was possessed by Naugus. Whatever happened to him post crossover, since he allowed Eggman to rebel to begin with, is this as well.]]
* HonorBeforeReason: [[spoiler:Despite knowing what Naugus is truly like, he still works with him in recognition of what he's done for him in the past, to the point of appealing to Naugus' better nature. ''Wow'' does this ever backfire. You kinda feel sorry for the guy.]]
* {{Hypocrite}}:
** He is pretty bad at this in early parts of the comic. He belittles Sonic and calls him a kid however Sally is the same age as Sonic and says nothing. He also recruits Wombat Stu into the Secret Service who's younger than Sonic and says nothing.
*** It makes little sense to mock Sonic considering he's done things that Geoffrey can only dream of doing.
** He blames the royal family for all the kingdom's problems, even though the heroes had to spend time cleaning up messes ''he'' caused by supporting Naugus his whole life.
* InspectorJavert: In the Endgame arc when Sonic is accused of Sally's murder, he is the arresting officer and the one who hunts him when he escapes. Despite personally knowing about such things as Robotnik's Auto Automatons, robots that can perfectly imitate people, he's fully prepared to believe the worst in Sonic and doesn't hesitate to chase him all the way to Angel Island, and it takes Dulcy, a LivingLieDetector, telling him that Sonic was framed by Robotnik to get him to back off.
* InterspeciesRomance: His wife is a cat. And he used to have a thing for Sally (a squirrel).
* IveComeTooFar: In the end, he knew he was wrong to restore Naugus, but the damage had already been done, and he had no other options. He even tells Silver as such.
-->'''Geoffrey''': Like I said, it's too late for me. You've got a future to save, I... don't. See you around, kid.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty:[[spoiler: Gets possessed by Naugus when he suggests that they both try to make amends for what they've done.]]
* LaResistance: Led the Rebel Underground.
* ManipulativeBastard: In heroic (and not-so-heroic) ways. Best shown when Elias temporarily took over the throne from King Max; Geoffrey used Elias as a PuppetKing, manipulating him into doing such things as stripping Sonic of his knighthood and placing him under house arrest in Knothole Village. This bites him in the ass when Geoffrey's biased/half-assed advice leads Elias to crack under the pressure and abandon the throne completely.
* MayDecemberRomance: He was 21 years old when he was trying to court ''15 year old'' Sally. Note Geoffery's age was a bio added later on, one WordOfGod admits they DidntThinkThisThrough.
* TheMole
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone:[[spoiler: This hits him when he realizes that Naugus, the guy he's been helping for roughly a decade, is just a tyrant.]]
* NotEvilJustMisunderstood: It might be hard for some to view him as this, but more than anything, he wanted Naugus to become the king because he felt that he would make the Acorn Kingdom stronger and would prevent the deaths of many people. When he realized that Naugus' plan is to enslave the council to force them to do what he wants, he absolutely hated the idea and wanted to back out of working with him, but was reminded that because of the numerous people he has already betrayed that no one would listen or side with him, he realized he made a horrible mistake in working under him.
* NotSoDifferent:
** From, sadly enough, Drago. [[spoiler:He said that what motivated him into restoring Naugus was Hershey's alleged death. He used Hershey (albeit as motivation instead of a pawn) to betray the Freedom Fighters, which caused Sally to become roboticized, broke up the Freedom Fighters, and played a part in the near destruction of the world.]]
** As stated by him in Universe 43, he's not so different from Silver either. He believed that working with Naugus would eventually result in The Acorn Kingdom having a much better/stronger government so he started to work under him when he was a child. He never meant for any harm to befall the city or its citizens. When he learned that Naugus was EvilAllAlong and basically using him to rule the kingdom with an iron first, he was horrified to learn that the person he had worked under ever since he was a child was evil. His intentions were always good, but he had no idea that he was working for someone that believed in the opposite of his beliefs.
* PutOnABus: Exempt from the book due to legal matters, despite being left on a cliffhanger.
* ShaggyDogStory: Restoring Naugus was pointless: [[spoiler:Despite having a Chaos Emerald Naugus was powerless to protect even himself from any enemies or heal the sickness that the first Genesis Wave gave him in the old timeline. Additionally, this made New Mobotropolis vulnerable to both the Tails Doll and Naugus' magic. There's also the fact stealing the Chaos Emerald to begin with led to Sally's roboticization (and Silver's disaster as a result) by dividing the Freedom Fighters to where only Sonic and Sally could get in the Death Egg, and possibly the [[ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehogMegaManWorldsCollide crossover]] which dragged Megaman and Blaze's world into the crossfire. As of 252 Naugus was stripped of his powers by the first Genesis Wave in the new timeline, further sealing the fact that after all his work his failure spans ''three'' universes and ''two'' histories.]]
* TheRival: To Sonic in the early days, mostly for Sally's affections. Antoine doesn't like him either, for that matter, but for different reasons.
** RivalTurnedEvil
* TeacherStudentRomance: His wife, Hershey, was once his student in agent arts.
* UnwittingPawn: It was made very obvious that Naugus has been lying to Geoffrey since he was a child and used his hatred for Overlanders and loyalty to the Kingdom as a means to manipulate him. When he finally got a clue it was far too late and the damage to himself and to everyone else has already been done, something which Naugus calls him out on. When he, not of his own volition, still seemed loyal to Naugus, which Naugus commented on, the Evil Wizard had no problem whatsoever [[spoiler:possessing him.]] This makes it very clear that he was as much as tool in Naugus' plan as Mina.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Stealing the purple chaos emerald for Naugus means that the Freedom Fighters were unable to use it to repel the attacks from Eggman and the Battle Bird Armada, leading to Sally's roboticization [[note]]Amy was stuck guarding him during Eggman's attack, so she couldn't aid Sonic and Sally.[[/note]], the damage to the city, and the near destruction of the planet. [[spoiler: Mecha-Sally was Silver's target all along, the one who destroyed the world, meaning Geoffrey's actions set the apocalypse in motion. His actions may have led to the crossover as well, which probably means he's this trope on a multi-versal level.]]
* WellIntentionedExtremist: He believed that making Naugus king was the right thing to do, for the good of the Republic of Acorn.
** Which falls under FridgeLogic since Naugus implied that he started the Great War with his powers, right ''after'' revealing his HatePlague powers, meaning he basically killed his dad. That said, how much he ''knows'' about this is in question. The FridgeLogic goes further since 233 revealed that Naugus warned him about Robotnik when they first met, but told him not to warn anyone, making Naugus and him partially responsible for Robotnik and everything that happened as a result, ''including'' Hershey's supposed death. He isn't fond of Overlanders like Robotnik, and wasn't emotionally stable at the time since his dad just died, so it's honestly possible that he never realized this.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Hershey the Cat]]
Secret agent and Geoffrey's wife.

As a Penders-created character, she was removed from the comic.
----
* AmbiguousSituation: Her last mention was that she was killed in a failed solo mission. According to Ian Flynn, his original plan was that Hershey would have actually survived and followed Sonic & Sally in the shadows while they were with the Felidae & the Wolves, and solicits for issue 237 mentioned a "mysterious figure" would be following Team Fighters. However, Ken Penders started his copyright lawsuit, so we may never know what really happened.
* ArtShift: She was originally drawn human sized, while dating the similarly sized Drago Wolf. She shrank to general Mobian size later on, when she married Geoffrey.
* BusCrash: Implied when Geoffrey offhandedly mentions her death in a solo mission.
* CatsHaveNineLives: Invokes this in SSS #2.
-->'''Tails:''' What was '''that?'''\\
'''Hershey:''' I don't know, but I think I'm down to '''eight''' lives just '''hearing''' it!
* HappilyMarried: To Geoffrey.
* HeroSecretService
* InterspeciesRomance
* PutOnABus: Gone after the Penders lawsuit.
* SpyCatsuit: Yup.
* TeacherStudentRomance: Was Geoffrey's student before becoming his teammate and then wife.
* TookALevelInBadass: After becoming a member of the Secret Service.
* UnwittingPawn: Drago's, who manipulated her into almost killing Sally. And by Geoffrey originally, he had recruited her to his team as a decoy if his own plans fell apart.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Thanks to the Penders lawsuit, her ultimate fate is unknown.
* WomanScorned: When she learned she was used by Drago. To say she hurt him back is an understatement.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Rob o' the Hedge]]

Another hedgehog and leader of the Crazy Critters, the Freedom Fighters of the Mercia, a medieval type land of which he's also the king. His aunt and uncle were the parents to Amy Rose, making them cousins.
----
* TheArcher: His main skill set and quite a good shot with it too.
* BattleCouple: With his wife, Mari-An.
* {{Expy}}: A composite example. He and his Freedom Fighters are based on Robin Hood and the Merry Men. But his design and arsenal are one to ''ComicBook/GreenArrow''.
* InTheHood: What he usually wears to differentiate him from the other hedgehogs. He'd pretty much looks like a green Sonic otherwise.
* PutOnABus: Gone due to the Penders lawsuit. In-universe this is explained by his companions that he and his family had went into hiding following an failed assassination attempt. Even if Penders hadn't created him, being the cousin of Amy (a Sega character) might still have gotten him booted from the reboot continuity.
* PunnyName: Rob O'? As in Robin Hood?
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: He takes over his kingdom in his father's stead and more then willing to fight for it.
* TrickArrow: Has many arrows with different effects.
* YeOldeButcheredeEnglishe: How he usually talks
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Ken "Monkey" Khan]]
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Monkey_Khan2_7529.png]]

A victim of Robotnik that was turned into an experimental cyborg. He rebelled and was locked away, but was later freed following Robotnik's death. Since then he's been trying to use his powers for good, though has few anger issues to get over first.
----
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: When under the control of the Iron Queen.
* CharacterDevelopment: Started out as a brash, cocky jerk who was quick to anger and seek revenge. Interacting with Sally led to him overcoming his personal demons and becoming a much calmer person, and more of a legitimate hero.
* {{Cyborg}}
* HairTriggerTemper: Prior to character development.
* HotBlooded: Initally, he started learning to control it.
* JerkassHasAPoint: Well by then he was becoming nicer, but he did question to Sonic why they don't just off Eggman and be done with him considering how much trouble he caused everyone and the potential evil he can (and eventually will) do. Especially considering at the time Eggman was going through a VillainousBreakdown leaving him more then vulnerable.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold
* KnownOnlyByTheirNickname: His real name is Ken, though everyone but Sally calls him Khan.
* MilesGloriosus: Again, prior to his CharacterDevelopment.
* MyGreatestFailure: Being controlled by the Iron Queen and used to destroy the other Dragon Kingdom Freedom Fighters.
* NiceHat: The power ring he wears as a crown enhances his power and keeps him from being possessed by technomancy.
* TheNotLoveInterest: For Sally. While there's a mutual attraction between them, Sally ultimately wants to work things out with Sonic, and the two part on good terms
* NotSoDifferent: Sonic and he are very alike, both being impulsive and hot-headed. Realizing the similarity is why Khan tries to befriend Sonic after Sonic attacked him and makes him return a kidnapped Sally.
-->'''Khan''': "Sally set me straight! I shouldn't have acted out of self-interest. She says you and I are quite similar...
-->'''Sally''': "Believe me, that's '''not''' a compliment!"
* PhlebotinumRebel
* PutOnABus: Gone after the Penders lawsuit -- though he is actually a Frank Strom creation.
* TheQuarterback: Almost averted, but not ''quite''. While he is ''very'' romantic and understanding around Sally, he's still a muscly guy called Ken.
* [[SealedGoodInACan Sealed Jerkass In A Can]]: Was imprisoned in some sort of "crypt" by Eggman after he proved too hard to control.
* SimpleStaff: His Atom Bat.
* ShockAndAwe: His lightning attacks.
* ShoutOut: To ''Literature/JourneyToTheWest'', in that he's a hot-headed monkey with a flying cloud and a powerful staff.
* SuperPrototype
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Nathaniel "Nate" Beauregard Morgan]]
[[quoteright:249:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nate_morgan.png]]
An Overlander scientist and developer of manufactured Power Rings.
----
* ChekhovsGun: Nate's glasses contain an odd circular addition to them, seeming to be a kind of light or retractable lens. In actuality it's a miniature power-ring hidden on his person and at the end of his debut arc he blindsides and defeats Naugus with it.
* TheGenericGuy: Nate as a character had the problem of being written into a series where there were already two resident [[TheSmartGuy Smart Guys]], namely Rotor and Uncle Chuck, in a time where Tails ''also'' began to show some signs of technical know-how. Add to that a backstory that was somewhat similar to that of Dr. Robotnik, and it becomes obvious why that he had problems truly standing out. The writers also clearly had problems with figuring out what to do with him, eventually writing him out of the story 35 issues after his introduction.
* GoodCounterpart: To Dr. Robotnik, being a brilliant scientist who has been thrown into exile by Overlander society, except he uses his inventions to help people.
* HeroicSacrifice: He eventually meets his end when he allows himself to become robotized in order to give Sonic and the other Overlanders a chance to escape from Robotopolis. His robot form is then destroyed, when Robotopolis ends up being nuked.
* KilledOffForReal: Overlander roboticization seems to be more fatal than its Mobian counterpart but InUniverse Sonic and Sally believed that he could be restored like the Robians were. Robotopolis is destroyed in a nuclear attack and Nate was dead permanently. Karl Bollers actually intended to reveal that the BEM saved and de-roboticized him (a side-effect leaving him with amnesia) but that never came to pass and Nate remained dead.
* {{Retcon}}: Was for a time the ''actual'' inventor of Power Rings, but due to the {{Continuity Snarl}}s associated with this, his invention was eventually downplayed to merely having discovered a way to manufacture artificial Power Rings.
* TwoferTokenMinority: To the Overlanders, being both black and a dwarf.

!! Old Universe Freedom Fighter Teams

Along with the main group, there are other Freedom Fighter Teams set up around the world to defend against Eggman's tyranny.

[[folder: Arctic Freedom Fighters]]
Freedom Fighters of the Northern Tundra in the old universe. An activist group turn Resistance fighters.
----
* AnIcePerson: Sorta, they're animals that live in the artic parts of the world so naturally they're used to the cold.
* TheBigGuy: Augustus, the Polar Bear, is the largest and strongest of the group.
* TheBusCameBack: After their debut, they thank Sonic and return to the Northern Tundra. When Rotor goes there to rescue his family, Sealia and Augustus reappear to help him fight Robotnik.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Downunda Freedom Fighters]]
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/downunda.jpg]]

Freedom Fighters of the Downunda region in the old universe, introduced in Tails' miniseries. Vector is affiliated with this group and Knuckles' nemesis, Thrash, worked with them for a time as well.
----
* AbsurdlySharpClaws: Barby's claws are sharp enough to cut through metal easily.
* ActionGirl: Barby Koala is the best fighter on the team, having trained as a mercenary before becoming a Freedom Fighter.
* ActualPacifist: Guru Emu who usually wants to talk a situation down much to the frustration of his allies sometimes.
* AnimalGenderBender: Walt Wallabee has a pouch.
* AwesomeAussie: They're all animals native to Australia and they kick plenty of ass.
* BadassCrew: Comes with the job of being a Freedom Fighter group that regularly fights robotic oppressors.
* BadassPacifist: Guru Emu is a peace-loving hippie, but he'll rise to the occasion when called for.
-->'''Tails''': I thought you hippie types were non-violent?
-->'''Emu''': [[LetsGetDangerous Even the peace train comes to a halt, little dude]].
* BewareTheNiceOnes: They're a good-natured, laid-back bunch who are really good at smashing up robots.
* BigDamnHeroes: They're introduced charging in to save Tails from Wing Dingoes.
* BootsOfToughness: Barby sports a pair of thigh-high boots.
* BoisterousBruiser[=/=]HotBlooded: Bill loves a good fight the most out of them.
* BoxingKangaroo: Well, Wallabee, actually, but Walt's fighting style is this.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Duck Bill was briefly under mind control from the group's nemesis, Crocbot.
* BruiserWithASoftCenter: Barby Koala is deadly in combat, but is also caring and compassionate.
* CrashIntoHello: Walt and Guru met this way - Walt was on a walkabout in the outback, when he literally ran into a meditating Guru. They later meet up with the other three members.
* CunningLinguist: Barby Koala is a skilled linguist, shown to be capable of communicating with the ancient Bunyip.
* EasilyForgiven: When Bill explains why he turned traitor, the others are quick to forgive him when they understand his motivations.
* FaceHeelTurn: Duck "Bill" Platypus who sided with Eggman. Subverted though, he only did it since his people pressure him into it.
* FakeDefector: After Bill's people willingly joined with Eggman, he did as well in order to make sure they didn't suffer too much under his rule, while still being loyal to his team.
* FiveManBand:
** TheLeader: Walt Wallabee.
** TheLancer: Barby Koala.
** TheSmartGuy[=/=]TheHeart: Guru Emu.
** TheBigGuy: Duck "Bill" Platypus.
** TheChick: Wombat Stu.
* GogglesDoNothing: Duck "Bill" Platypus sports a pair.
* ImpliedLoveInterest: Barby may have feelings for Bill, as she felt he owed her in particular an explanation for his joining the Eggman Empire. Whether or not she holds him in a romantic light or [[LikeBrotherAndSister simply regards him as a sibling]] is unknown.
* LandDownUnder: If the name didn't give it away, this is their motif as a lot of the members are animals found in Australia.
* NewAgeRetroHippie: Guru Emu has this design.
* NiceGuy: They're very friendly, laid-back and easy-going, particularly Guru Emu.
* NiceHat: Wombat Stu wears a John Deere cap.
* NumberTwo: Barby is second in command and arguably the most competent member.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: Wombat Stu is the smallest of the group, but is also the most agile and can fight with the best of them. Duck "Bill" Platypus also qualifies.
* PunnyName: Wombat Stu was named after the children's book ''Wombat Stew''.
* RescueIntroduction: They're introduced rescuing Tails when from Wing Dingoes.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Barby Koala is the token female teammate.
* TeamMom: Barby is the most sensible, down-to-earth member and is kind and caring to both her teammates and those they come across.
* TrueCompanions: They're a very close, tight-knit bunch who've been through thick and thin together.
* UnresolvedSexualTension:
** Walt has feelings for Barby, [[AllLoveIsUnrequited but she never got round to returning his affections]].
** Barby once displayed this with Tails when he and Sonic came to Downunda (kissing him, holding hands, flirting with him, and blowing him a goodbye kiss). [[ShipSinking Ian Flynn has said that that ship is officially sunk]].
* WestCoastTeam
* WolverineClaws: Barby Koala spouts claws that can slice 'bots in half.
* WomenAreWiser: Barby Koala often serves as a peacemaker between the hotheaded males she works alongside.

[[folder: Secret Freedom Fighters]]
A black-ops team formed by Elias Acorn and Harvey Who to fight against Naugus, who was crowned king and seen as a hero by the citizens of New Mobotropolis in the wake of Eggman and the Battle Bird Armada's attacks on the city. As much of the members were created or connected to items conceived by former writer Ken Penders, the team has been removed from continuity as of the [[ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehogMegaManWorldsCollide crossover]], with the only confirmed members in the new continuity being Silver the Hedgehog and NICOLE the Lynx.

!!Elias Acorn/"King"
[[quoteright:179:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eliassf_908.png]]

Sally's brother, who was lost during the Great War and raised on the Floating Island. After being reunited with his family, he struggled under the weight of his responsibilities and eventually ran away from home. Nevertheless, after marrying his wife Megan, he returned to accept the crown. However, he soon found himself with new struggles, and was deposed as King by [[VillainWithGoodPublicity Ixis Naugus]]. However, knowing he would still have to protect his people from Ixis, he formed the "Secret Freedom Fighters" with the help of former Head of Secret Intelligence, Harvey Who. His code-name in this group is "King."
----
* CoolSword: The sword of Light, given to him by Sir Connery.
* [[DarkSkinnedRedhead Dark Furred Redhead]]
* DualWielding: Wields a pair of exotic-looking... daggers?
* HappilyMarried: With Megan, who he met after running away from home.
* HeirClubForMen: He and Sally have been drawn into this by their father on several occasions, and his step-daughter Alexis is ineligible to succeed him, so this will likely be an issue in the future.
* HeroicBSOD: The look on his face when he learns Sally was Roboticized. He is clearly broken because of the news, and can't fight Naugus because of it.
* SuccessionCrisis
* IJustWantToBeNormal: He originally just wanted a life of adventure, and then to live quietly with his new family. Elias constantly doubts his ability to rule, and Ixis Naugus wastes no time attempting to appeal to Elias's desire to "return to the simple life" when making his bid for the throne.
* {{Karma}}: His dad's poor decisions (see HorribleJudgeOfCharacter in Max's entry) are ultimately why he lost the kingdom to Naugus.
* InformedSpecies: Elias is a squirrel, yet he looks more like a fox. This is especially evident when you look at his ears and tail. These traits are also present in both his father Max, and grandfather Frederick.
* KingIncognito: During his brief time as a runaway.
* LongLostRelative
* ModestRoyalty
* [[KnightInShiningArmour Prince On a White Pasha.]]
* PuppetKing: The first time he took the throne, he ended up being this to Geoffrey, who gave him biased/half-assed advice, especially regarding the Freedom Fighters, leading to Elias, among other things, stripping Sonic of his knighthood and putting him under house arrest in Knothole. Eventually, Geoffrey's lousy advice ends up being a big part of the reason why Elias abandons the throne.
* PutOnABus: Can no longer appear due to the Penders lawsuit. One hopes Ian Flynn's 'Lost Hedgehog Tales' will reveal what would have been his fate.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething
* UngratefulBastard: Somewhat. Elias openly called Harvey crazy when he first met the team, and monologues that they wouldn't be his first, second, or even third choice. It takes Lyco and Leeta calling him out to get him to accept their help.
* WarriorPrince
* WellDoneSonGuy: Like Sally, he's struggled to earn his father's approval. This clashes with his duty as King, and deciding to reform the kingdom into a Republic has only made their relationship more difficult.

[[caption-width-right:238:[[labelnote:Click here to see him as Metal Sonic 2.5]]https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/metalsonic2point5_2910.png]][[/labelnote]]

The original Metal Sonic created by Dr. Robotnik, the robot known as "Shard" was granted autonomy and free-will after exposure to [[AppliedPhlebotinum one of the doctor's Power Gems]]. Eager to gain vengeance upon the hedgehog he was based, Metal Sonic attempted to destroy both Sonic and Tails, only to be turned by the the two friends' concern for one another. Metal Sonic sacrificed himself to save Sonic and Tails from the same volcano he attempted to trap them in, seemingly at the cost of his own life. However, he resurfaced years later, rebuilt and going by the name of ''Shard'', the "Jack" of the Secret Freedom Fighters. He has sadly been confirmed to be removed as of the reboot; his power gem core was reportedly a Penders idea, and the way this fact was revealed implied simply removing the gem from canon won't stop ligitation, so there's too much potential hassle to bring him back.

* HealingFactor: He has a self repair function that also assimilates and adapts new technology.
* HeelFaceTurn: As the original Metal Sonic, he was made by Robotnik specifically to match Sonic, and restored himself after his initial defeat for a personal rematch. He then made a HeroicSacrifice and saved Sonic and Tails after discovering his rival's personality. He was later restored again by Uncle Chuck and reprogrammed to be a force for good and even helped Sonic.
* ItIsPronouncedTroPay: "Metal Sonic" was the name of a line of Sonic-themed robots, which conflicted with Sega's version. To avoid confusion, Shard was described as "the first Mecha Sonic" in the book.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: While he's shown the desire to commit to being a hero and prove that robots aren't all bad, he is also obnoxious, mouthy, and still has much to learn about free will and morality.
* MorphWeapon: His whole body, thanks to his Power Gem.
* MythologyGag: His sacrifice and seeming demise in the volcano are undoubtedly references to Metal Sonic's actions in the ''[[Anime/SonicTheHedgehogTheMovie Sonic OVA]]''.
** Meanwhile, his color-scheme as Shard is based on [[VideoGame/SonicRivals Metal Sonic 3.0]].
* PutOnABus / TheBusCameBack: Originally died twice as Metal Sonic in the early issues of the comic, and came back as Shard near the CosmicRetcon. Was put back on the bus for good since he can no longer appear for legal reasons.
* RageBreakingPoint: Did NOT enjoy the fact that he had to destroy a Metal Sonic who also possessed a Power Gem, due to that Metal carrying the same 'spark', but programmed to perform a soft reboot anytime it deviates from Eggman's programming.
* RedemptionQuest: Along with most of the other SFF members, his goal is to use the opportunity of a second life good. He starts to realize that redemption is a process that will take some work.
* UpgradeVsPrototypeFight: He'd fought against two newer versions of Metal Sonic, with his last appearance fighting the one that went on to the crossover.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Appears to be claustrophobic, due to getting buried alive at one point.

!!Larry Lynx/"Joker"
[[quoteright:214:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/larrylynx_2741.png]]

Larry Lynx, "super jinx." Never has a title been more appropriate, as Larry is a living embodiment of bad luck. After meeting Sonic, he eventually gained some confidence and eventually became the leader of the Substitute Freedom Fighters... only for the group to disband. Thanks to Harvey Who, Larry is back in action as the Secret Freedom Fighters' "Agent Joker," but it'll take a while before he has same confidence in himself that the director has.
----
* ButtMonkey: Shard tends to treat him this way, as does the universe.
* CosmicPlaything
* TheJinx: Bad things usually happen to everyone around him. This became a problem for the Substitute Freedom Fighters during his debut, but becomes a valuable asset, especially during his return to join the Secret Freedom Fighters.
* MyGreatestFailure: Before being recruited by Harvey, Larry was really depressed over the Substitute Freedom Fighter thing not working out.
* PutOnABus / TheBusCameBack: Wasn't heard from again until late into the PGW-era before the CosmicRetcon. Thanks to the Penders Lawsuit, Larry was removed from the comic -- though he was actually an Angelo [=DeCesare=] creation.
* WalkingDisasterArea: Merely hiding in some bushing somewhat close to Eggman's robots causes guns to jam, and robots to trip over their own feet.
* WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway: Not even Larry's sure what his "wild card" status and bad luck bring to the team. Harvey Who seems to think there's something special about him.
* WolverineClaws: In his Secret Freedom Fighters uniform.

!!Leeta and Lyco/"Queen of Diamonds" and "Queen of Hearts"
[[quoteright:116:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leetalyco_7173.png]]
[[caption-width-right:116:Leeta (top) and Lyco (bottom)]]

Two wolves and members of the Wolf Pack. Originally without a pack, they were taken in by Lupe and helped her and the rest of the Pack fight the original Robotnik. After resettling in their people's ancestral homeland, they grew restless and sought to help beyond the reaches of their nation. Thankfully, Harvey Who contacted the Wolf Pack Nation in search of recruits, and they became members of the Secret Freedom Fighters. Their monikers are "Queen of Diamonds" and "Queen of Hearts."
----
* AnimalThemeNaming: As with most members of the Wolf Pack, Lyco's name is derived from a word for wolf; in this case, the Greek "''lykos''."
* IdenticalTwinIDTag: Their outfits being ColorCodedForYourConvenience.
* JumpedAtTheCall: Literally; Harvey Who called Lupe to recruit agents and they accepted, wanting to experience adventure and do more for the common good.
* LeotardOfPower: As both civilians and secret freedom fighters.
* NotSoDifferent: The twins rag on Elias for not trusting him and being up to the task of their mission, but later they end up blowing it by being frightened and revealing their presence to Naugus.
* PutOnABus: Can no longer appear due to the Penders lawsuit.
* TwinSwitch: A variation where they both pretended to be the same twin was hilariously used to confound Silver in one "Off Panel" strip.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Leeta is afraid of heights.
* WomanScorned: They were once two-timed by a wolf from another pack who took advantage of their being twins. After they dumped him, they found him in the Dark Egg Legion and were ''not'' amused.

!!Harvey Who
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/harveywho_7419.png]]

The former director of Secret Intelligence and the current director of the Secret Freedom Fighters. Harvey Who aided in the battle with Robotnik, but retired soon after - only to be convinced to help Elias regain the throne and stop Ixis Naugus. Harvey is both experienced and wise, and able to see things in others that they may not see in themselves.
----
* AscendedExtra: Appeared in one story way-back-when, and then [[ChuckCunninghamSyndrome disappeared forever]] - that is, until he was brought back to serve as the director for the Secret Freedom Fighters.
* BadassMustache
* BarefootCartoonAnimal
* CoolOldGuy
* DaChief
* GloryDays: When Elias first visits him, he's convinced his best years are behind him. He even has a photograph of himself, King Max, and members of the King's court from the pre-Robotnik days in his house. That said, it doesn't take much for Elias to talk him back into action.
* TheOwlKnowingOne
* MasterOfDisguise: He and his men disguised themselves as Badniks during the war with Robotnik.
* PutOnABus: Much like the other members of the Secret freedom Fighters (barring Silver and possibly Shard), the Penders Lawsuit has made it so that he can never again appear in the comic.
* ShoutOut: Back when we first saw him, he and his men were this to the cast of Literature/WinnieThePooh, consisting of an owl, a bear, and a donkey. Additionally, at the end of his first appearance, Sonic references the old tootsie pop commercial with the owl. [[spoiler: According to Harvey, the amount of licks needed is classified information]].
** His current design looks a lot like [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime Kaepora Gaebora]].
* WhosOnFirst: A BrickJoke in his first appearance. Robotnic's prisoner ''had'' been naming his spymaster all along.

[[folder: Rebel Underground]]
!!Rebel Underground

During the Great War, General Armand D'Coolette proposed a secret group of fighters to serve as a guerilla cell should the Kingdom fall. Though the General's disappearance was thought to have nixed the plan, it ended up being formed by Geoffrey St. John in secret as a means to combat Robotnik. The group is primarily comprised of Beavers.
----
* MookLieutenant: Lieutenant Fleming, the second in command of the team and the one dispensing the orders when St. John isn't present. He looks identical to the other Beavers save for his grey mustache.
* OldSoldier: Lieutenant Fleming was one of the oldest Freedom Fighters still in action following Robotnik's takeover with many of the previous generation captured and roboticized whilst their children stepped up to fight. After Robotnik's defeat Fleming is nearly killed when he and Geoffrey are out disabling Robotnik's old death traps, ultimately this leads to Fleming realizing he's too old and retiring.

[[folder: Heavy and Bomb]]
!!Heavy and Bomb
[[quoteright:173:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/heavyandbomb_7053.png]]
Robots who once served Eggman, but were liberated when exposed to the unique energy of Power Gems. After previously serving on the Secret Service, they were taken control of by Eggman and used to attack the Royal Family. Though they were destroyed and later replicated, the originals were rebuilt in new bodies and served as members of Team Freedom. Their status as of the reboot is unknown.
----
* ActionBomb: Bomb, naturally.
* AIIsACrapShoot: Inverted. Robotnik built them to be evil and they renege from his service to be heroes. When they're evil its just because they're reprogrammed to serve Eggman, and even then they're rebuilt and their will restored.
* BackFromTheDead: Bomb's ability to upload his consciousness into a new shell after his body is destroyed is stated to be this trope by Robo-Robotnik who used a similar method to return to life.
* GeniusBruiser: Heavy.
* IntelligibleUnintelligible: Bomb communicates solely with a "Ping" sound, which [[RepeatingSoTheAudienceCanHear Heavy conveniently translates for him]].
* PutOnABus: With the reboot, they were two of many characters written out. Unlike many previous Sonic characters, Heavy and Bomb were from the games and as such had the potential to come back in contrast to many other characters who were PutOnABus. Though they ultimately never returned with the Reboot cut short.
* TheyKilledKennyAgain: Everytime Bomb uses his powers, his current body is destroyed - only for his [[BrainUploading consciousness to be uploaded to a new shell generated by Heavy]].
* SuddenlyVoiced: Bomb begins speaking when they join the secret service, though only sparingly.
* SuperStrength: Again, Heavy.
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: No one seemed very concerned when they were destroyed, despite being loyal members of the Secret Service prior to being reprogrammed. Arguably fixed by the fact that they were eventually rebuilt and restored to their original personalities.
* YouDontLookLikeYou: When they first appeared in the comics, they had different designs from their [=SegaSonic=] counterparts. When they were recreated by Eggman, they were given the Sega designs, and now that the originals are back, they have those designs as well.

[[folder: Fly Fly Freddy]]
!!Fly Fly Freddy

A member of the Spy Network along with Sleuth, Fly Fly Freddy debuted helping the Substitute Freedom Fighters and Sonic when he'd been depowered.
----
* KilledOffForReal: Though Badniks get smashed and rebuilt all the time, Freddy couldn't be salvaged and when Knuckles destroyed him he was dead permanently.
* NonstandardCharacterDesign: Freddy's design stands out, especially in the early comic. He's a human-sized bug man with a lot more detail to him than the average Mobian.
* UnwillingRoboticisation: When Sleuth turned traitor he handed Freddy over to Robotnik to be turned into a mindless attack unit.
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: PlayedWith. Knuckles doesn't go easy on Freddy after he'd been turned into a robot and destroys him. However after the battle Sonic makes it clear that they still intended to fix him. Ultimately Ian Flynn revealed they could not repair him much less deroboticize him.

[[folder: Tommy Turtle]]
!!Tommy Turtle

An old friend of Sonics, who once beat him in a race, instilling a bit of humility in the Hedgehog. Tommy is a patient and friendly turtle who is, unfortunately, easy to take advantage of.
----
* HeroicSacrifice: Twice. In one mission with Sonic, he helped him escape from an exploding building. Believed to have died, at first, he was revealed to have survived and was soon rescued from an Infiltrator factory when his double tried to kill Sonic. [[spoiler: Later, when his shell was infused with nanites, he was eventually possessed by A.D.A.M.. In order to defeat A.D.A.M. once and for all, Tommy manages to wrestle control of his body from him and flies into the line of fire of the egg fleet, thus killing them both and saving both the world and the other nanite-controlled freedom fighters.]]
* HeroicWillpower: [[spoiler: At the end of the Anonymous arc, Tommy gets possessed by A.D.A.M., but Tommy manages to temporarily shake off A.D.A.M. to bring him down once and for all.]]
* RememberTheNewGuy: Tommy is introduced as an old friend to Sonic who's been a major part of his life and even knows the other Freedom Fighters. He's never been mentioned before and even after his introduction, flashback arcs do not include him.
* TheScrappy: Of all of the LoadsandLoadsOfCharacters, Tommy had the least use, and was not well liked. He was written out via Heroic Sacrifice.
* TheSmartGuy: Rotor is impressed with Tommy's intelligence and the pair work together for a short time as Knothole's tech experts.
* SturdyAndSteadyTurtles: Tommy's character in a nutshell, or rather in a turtleshell; slow, patient, and pretty durable. His debut issue even revealed that he and Sonic had a very ''Tortoise and the Hare''-esque race as kids (Sonic had taken on a disguise as a Hare named Juice and as such the story was recounted as a turtle racing a hare).

[[folder: Original Freedom Fighters]]

Five members of the Kingdom's Military who band together after the loss of the Kingdom of Acorn (and after General D'Coolette's failed counterstrike) to become guerilla fighters resisting the Robotnik Regime. They are Colonel Tig Stripe, a tiger Mobian who came out of retirement to lead them; MP Bull Bones, a bulldog Mobian who wanted out and out war with Robotnik; Sir Peckers, the avian Mobian scout and courier; Trey Scales, the snake Mobian and obvious traitor; and Spot Long, the Giraffe Mobian and NewMeat.
----
* HiddenDepths: Though Trey never comes across as anything more than a bog standard traitor, the Encyclopedia throws in a couple comments about his backstory. Trey wore the uniform of the Southern Baronies, a group that had split from the Kingdom of Acorn and sided with the Overlanders during the war. Trey's betrayal may have simply been a last act of the defeated South to further hurt the Kingdom.
* KilledOffForReal: Their fates were ambiguous after being cast into the Zone of Silence, but in the end its revealed that they were destroyed to be used as raw materials for Feist to build his special zone.
* RememberTheNewGuy: They were supposed to have been the inspiration for the Knothole Freedom Fighters and role models that they looked up to, but were never mentioned even once in the over 100+ preceding issues and were never mentioned again afterwards.
* ReptilesAreAbhorrent: Trey Scales, as the Snake Mobian, was the obvious traitor. He even comments on it, noting that it was in his nature.
* RewardedAsATraitorDeserves: After Trey betrays them to Robotnik, Robotnik betrays him as well and sentences Trey to be roboticized with the rest of the Original Freedom Fighters and sent into the Zone of Silence.
* StillWearingTheOldColors: Though the military is gone, Tig Stripe still proudly wore the uniform of the Acorn Kingdom's soldiers. In a more sinister sense, Trey Scales still wore his Southern Baronies uniform.
