'''Kogarasumaru''' is a small Storm Rider team whose members are the main protagonists of this story. They begin with a single motivation: a desire to rise to the top, crush whoever is already there, and take their place. However, as they become more and more involved in the world of A-Ts, they realize things will not be as cut-and-dried as they had thought.

They're all first-class [[{{Badass}} badasses]]. Yes, even Onigiri. The team possesses three kings: Kazu, the Flame King, Agito, the Fang King, and Ikki, the Storm King.

Itsuki Minami is the male protagonist of the series. Prior to the beginning of the series, he was established as the leader of his [[JapaneseDelinquents school's gang]], the East Side Gunz. There, he earned the nickname "Babyface", which has followed him into the A-T world. He has shown an extreme amount of talent with the Air Trek, to the point of being a genius at it. He is the founder of the team Kogarasumaru as well as its leader. He is the current Storm King of the Hurricane Road.

Ikki is a boisterous, {{hot blooded}} young man who acts like a [[TheGadfly prick]] but has a [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold heart of solid gold]]. Despite coming across as a moron, he consistently shows himself to be a charismatic leader and a brutal fighter who, though he never takes things too far, fights with exceptional cunning and underhanded tactics. Ikki strongly believes in [[HardWorkHardlyWorks striving to achieve one's goals]] instead of taking shortcuts or letting somebody else give it to you, which brings him into direct conflict with the series' BigBad, who wants to forcefully change the world for the (in his eyes) betterment of everybody.

* AllAccordingToPlan: He wishes. Whenever a battle that had been going poorly turns around, Ikki likes to claim that it's because everything has been going all according to plan. It rarely is.
* AllLovingHero: Despite having [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold an abrasive personality]], he will help anybody he sees in distress, and while he often resorts to [[CombatPragmatist underhanded tactics]], it is because he wants to win and he always shows mercy to a defeated enemy.

* DeniedFoodAsPunishment: He loves meat, so if he makes an idiot of himself in the few days leading up to the Noyamano household's "meat night," he doesn't get to eat.

If you're lucky, he'll just plow through you, but if you aren't, he'll go out of his way to put you out of commission before continuing on as before and you don't want that. Either way, no matter what you throw at him, he'll shrug it all off and keep going.
* EvenTheGuysWantHim: The guys include Akito, Aeon, and maybe Kazu.
* EvilLaugh: It's PlayedForLaughs for the most part, and he even undergoes an art-shift for it, growing shark teeth and demonic eyes.
* TheGadfly: He'll dick around with anybody from friends and family to teachers to people he just met, just for the hell of it.
* GenreSavvy: Not as much as some examples of this trope, but he tends to see any twists his enemies pull coming. For example, in the fight with Behemoth, he knew Akira would try to attack him after shaking his hand, so he [[NinjaLog took precautions]]. In the final battle, he figured [[spoiler:Sora wouldn't play fair and took precautions to save everyone's lives.]]
* GiverOfLameNames: He really can't name operations very well. For instance, the plan to get Akito's bank book from Kaito's trailer was called "Operation City Hunter Wriggling in The Darkness."

* GuileHero: On several occasions, he is outclassed or in over his head somehow, but he pulls through with superior planning or by bending the rules in imaginative ways. The crowning example would be in the final battle, in which, thanks to the rules they set for the match, [[spoiler:neither he nor Sora can activate their god-like regalia. Ikki's solution: tune the Storm Regalia for Ringo and put them on her because the rules say nothing about whether or not ''she'' can use them. It stops Sora from blowing them all up.]]

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He may be loud, violent, rude, and insensitive, but he really does deeply care about his friends and family.
* LargeHam: He tends to be very boisterous and energetic when saying something he thinks is important.
* LoveEpiphany: He has two:
** Team Kogarasumaru insists that Ringo and Ikki are made for each other, but Ikki begs to differ, as his heart belongs to Simca. To settle the question Onigiri asks Ikki to close his eyes and try to visualize the face of the girl he likes. Cue two-page spread of [[spoiler:Kururu Sumeragi]]. To say Ikki is shocked would be an understatement. It's subverted later, though.[[note]]As of chapter 327, Kururu is ''not'' the one whom Ikki will "tune" with (tuning is quite close to ''having sex'', and performed more often than not by {{official couple}}s), since she's actually holding the aircraft carrier they're in together. After he thanks Kururu gently for her hard work, Ikki actually asks ''Ringo'' to tune in with him. So in the end, Ringo became the VictoriousChildhoodFriend.[[/note]]
** LoveRevelationEpiphany: [[spoiler:After Ringo confesses to him, he takes a good long look at their relationship and realizes that he's been in love with her for a long time. After that, he takes the first feasible moment to push for a RelationshipUpgrade.]]
* MadeOfIron: He's spent much of his life getting beaten daily by Mikan, who possesses SuperStrength. As a result, he's got insane levels of endurance.
* MagneticHero: Kilik states that this is the aspect of Wind Riders that annoys him the most: they seep into peoples hearts like a gust of wind. This is after Ikki won him over.
* ManlyTears: Whenever he cries.
* MistakenForGay: Akito's open infatuation with him causes all the YaoiFangirls to jump all over the relationship.
* MrFanservice: He spends a fair amount of time shirtless, or even naked.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Usually in conjunction with his CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass moments. He almost always reveals near the end of an arc that he already knew what was being planned, and planned accordingly.
* ObliviousToLove: Despite Ringo's feelings for him being painfully obvious to the reader (and most characters) from day one, Ikki had no idea until she finally confessed to him. He was understandably pissed with himself for unwittingly hurting her and taking her for granted for so long.
* OnlyKnownByHisNickname: Everyone calls him either "Crow," "Baby-face," or "Ikki." He's almost never called Itsuki.
* TheParagon: Because he both believes in [[HardWorkHardlyWorks obtaining what you want]] [[AvertedTrope through hard work]] and [[AllLovingHero wants to help people]], he adopts a philosophy of trying to inspire others to achieve greatness for themselves instead of just giving it to them.
* PostKissCatatonia: He freaks out every time Akito kisses him, but it's PlayedForLaughs. It's played much more seriously when he freezes up right after the first time Ringo kisses him.
* PowerCopying: He copied Thor of Sleipnir's ability to create vacuums.
* RelationshipUpgrade: [[spoiler: He and Ringo]] finally admit to each other that they're the most important people in each others' lives and seal the deal by become each others' link tuners.
* TheRival: [[spoiler:He sees himself as one to Kururu in terms of willpower.]]
* [[spoiler:SaveTheVillain: As the energy from the Sky and Storm Regailas wears off and gravity returns to normal, he passes up the chance to get rescued by helicopter to save a falling Sora despite all the crap he put Rika and him through.]]

* SelfImposedChallenge: For much of the first part of the series, he wore heavy training weights, even during his fight with Behemoth and during the Devil's 33, as he saw all of those challenges as practice. Ringo eventually forces him to go IAmNotLeftHanded during their fight by cutting the weights off his body.
* SmugSuper: Although it's mostly a front, he tends to very arrogant and boastful. It's usually played for laughs, but he's still probably the strongest character still alive in the series.
* TakeAThirdOption: [[spoiler:When faced with the choice of standing with Genesis against The Sleeping Forest or with The Sleeping Forest against Genesis, he gives them both the finger and tells them he'll take them both down. He ends up loosely allied with The Sleeping Forest anyway.]]
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Any kind of meat, which is why being DeniedFoodAsPunishment is so effective when used on him.
* UnskilledButStrong: Not in terms of physical strength (although he is still quite strong). His riding style for most of the series is this: he has endless raw talent with A-Ts, giving his tricks high output, but his technique is often sloppy, causing him to rarely reach his true potential and bust his A-Ts much more quickly than any other character. All his practicing pays off by the final battle, though, making him quite precise and [[spoiler:able to match Sora with regular A-Ts without destroying them.]]
* WasItAllALie: While he doesn't ask this, it's clear from his internal monologue that he's thinking it when he finds out that his roommates are all Gravity Children and he realizes the gravity of them being members of The Sleeping Forest.

Agito, Akito, and Lind Wanijima are the three personas inhabiting the body of Kaito Wanijima's younger brother.

The youngest and dominant persona, Agito was created by Akito to cope with the mental stress created by his pacifist nature and responsibilities as Fang King. As such, his strength is derived from his desire to protect Akito. He is [[AloofAlly aloof]], [[SirSwearsALot foul-mouthed]], and [[AxCrazy violent]], but despite this, his great skill and surprising intelligence make him a valuable asset to Kogarasumaru. Eventually, he warms up to the rest of the team, and even gets involved in their antics from time to time.

Akito was the dominant personality prior to Agito's creation and his polar opposite in almost every aspect. He's timid, gentle and feminine both in behavior and appearance. Nonetheless he is even more frightening than Agito [[BewareTheNiceOnes when angered]].

Lind is the third personality that comes out when the other two are having trouble, and is far more [[{{Badass}} powerful]] and [[AxCrazy violently proactive]] than Agito. He's ruthless, sadistic, disdainful, and has a playboy attitude towards women. [[spoiler:He is actually the first personality of the body and was initially believed to be a copy of [[{{Jerkass}} Kaito's personality]]. It was revealed in chapter 300 that this personality is in fact that of Gazelle, one of the original Gravity Children and Akito and Agito's mother.]]

* RazorWind: It involves using the inertial force created by rapidly accelerating and decelerating to send a kind of directed shockwave through the air.

* AbductionIsLove: Yayoi pulled this on him and he didn't seem to mind. In fact, her tying him up and taking him out across a lake in a rowboat is one of the first times we really see him calm down and openly show his softer side. [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness He doesn't even]] [[SirSwearsALot swear]].
* TheAce: Let's see... he's an extremely skilled rider, an expert in all things related to Air Treks, and extremely intelligent. Furthermore, thanks to his {{Bishonen}} looks, he's so popular with the ladies that it freaks him out. It's stated that he is part of the 1% that the BigBad hates so much.

* AntiHero: He began as a SociopathicHero, but eventually softened up into a PragmaticHero.
* AxCrazy: When he's first introduced, he enjoys brutally crushing his enemies. Even after his HeelFaceTurn, he's still far too willing to resort to violence.
** Let's put it this way: you know you've got a bad case of this when your own friends think you've come a long way from what you once were when you give an enemy the chance to surrender before deciding to kill them.
* BadassNormal: As he isn't a Gravity Child or a Brain Charger, he has no special powers.
* BackToBackBadasses: With Ikki when they fought Behemoth's Akira Udou and Mitsuru Bando.
* BerserkButton: Agito [[HairTriggerTemper has a lot of these]]. The biggest, though, is threatening Yayoi. Lind pushed it pretty hard when he told Orca (who was holding her hostage) that she was just a woman who could be easily replaced. Agito was pissed enough to break free of Lind's control and take his body back.
* BetaCouple: With Yayoi.
* BloodKnight: Oddly enough, he's also the strategist. He'll plan out how to shred his opponents, make sure that it's likely to work, ''then'' he'll thoroughly enjoy himself while he does it.
* CatchPhrase: See ClusterFBomb.
* ChickMagnet: Well, among nurses and doctors, anyway.
* ClusterFBomb: He says "Fuck" a lot for no real reason. Seriously, the guy's got quite the mouth on him.

Mihotoke Issa, a.k.a. Fats Buccha, is a heavily-built, tanned fighter who specializes in close combat. Before joining Kogarasumaru, he was the leader of the team Night Kings (Yaou) and savagely beat down Kazu and Onigiri. After losing to Ikki in a Hurdles match, [[DefeatMeansFriendship he becomes good friends with Ikki, Kazu, and Onigiri]] and becomes a founding member of Kogarasumaru. Big, intimidating, and surprisingly intelligent, Buccha has deep technical knowledge and analytical skills when it comes to A-Ts, but he suffers from a crippling lack of confidence.

Buccha rides his own unique road called the The Rock Road (not to be confused with the Gaia Road, which it is something of a derivative of) which emphasizes physical hand-to-hand attacks enhanced by his A-T's momentum.

He frequently uses his powers to peer through walls into women's bathing area and through their clothes and characterized as a pig.

Onigiri rides his very own road, the Smell Road. It utilizes Onigiri's body odor to distort an opponent's senses and create illusions. It is very disgusting.

Kilik is the Gem King of The Sleeping Forest, both past and present, a first generation Gravity Child, and the one actually calling all the shots. Though he began as one of the series' main antagonists and was even built up to be the BigBad, his role has become something closer to that of the BigGood as his motives and the truth about The Sleeping Forest is revealed. Though one of the most reserved and physically unassuming storm riders in the series, Kilik is intelligent, arrogant, and extremely powerful. He viciously protects the Sky Regalia from the world, believing that its power was too much for the world to handle and would only lead to chaos and suffering.

He and Sora founded The Sleeping Forest to protect the Sky Regalia and keep its vast power from falling into anybody's hands, but after growing disillusioned with the violence and suffering storm riders subjected each other to and then discovering Sora was only using The Sleeping Forest to take the Sky Regalia for himself, he gathered several Gravity Children who shared his opinions on the Sky regalia and led a coup against The Sleeping Forest and personally crippled Sora. He then rebuilt The Sleeping Forest to serve the purpose he originally intended for it: protecting the Sky Regalia from any who would use it. In this pursuit, he is extremely ruthless, and there are very few lines he won't cross if it means accomplishing his goal.

He is considered the most powerful of the original eight Kings of Sleeping Forest and the most gifted among all the Gravity Children. His Gaia Road operates on the principles of piezoelectricity and is powerful enough to almost completely destroy a building.

Despite being Sora's twin, the two aren't very similar: appearance-wise, Nike has a taller, bulkier, and far more muscular body than his brother and possesses a different hairstyle. Even after he is defeated and [[spoiler:missing a leg]], Ikki complements him, saying that the only way they could beat him was to shatter his heart, because they could not do the same to his body.

And even when he attacks her, he only temporarily paralyzes her, covering her chest with his own blood to make the wound look fatal, and when he uses her as a distraction (he throws her at Kazu who immediately catches her) he goes for Kazu's leg -- while most of his previous attacks went for center body mass -- as if he wants to avoid hitting her.

* ShadowArchetype: To Kazu. Both are the NumberTwo to their respective leaders, and both at one time had crushing self-esteem issues. He's been used as a weapon for most of his life by the brother he looks up to and Spitfire even states that his brother kept him isolated from everything that could have dulled his edge as a weapon. As a result, his life gradually lost all meaning outside of killing to achieve victory in battle. When he finally realizes how close everything that could have given him a normal life was, he laments the fact that the other Gravity Children could have become his wings instead of just his bastard of a brother. However, he feels that even if he's finally realized this, he's come too far and that there is no way he would be able to live a normal life. The way the scene plays out, it makes it feel like he's a slave to his own need for victory.

Dauntless is the former Rumble King of the Over Road. He is one of the original Gravity Children. His Regalia were worn on his arms so that he could draw on his great upper-body strength. He was, at least when the first Sleeping Forest was active, a popular rapper. He sided against Kilik during the Kilik incident and lost his Regalia and presumably his ability to ride. After the battle, he later disappeared, although his death is never confirmed, or even implied.

However, the wall is solid enough for Buccha to ride on it.
* StoutStrength: Subverted. He initially looks like he's big the way Buccha is big thanks to his massive hoodie, but after that gets shredded, it becomes obvious that he has a HeroicBuild to rival Nike's.
* VerbalTic: He tends to end his sentences with "Gowa." According to the translation notes for the official translations, this is a tough, rather aggressive sound, so it's fitting.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: He's the only member of the original Sleeping Forest whose fate is unknown. It seems he disappeared after the Kilik Incident. It's possible he decided to pursue his career as a rapper, but this is mere conjecture.
