The Vale came into possession by the Arryns during the Andal Invasion, deposing the Royces, the Shetts and the Griffin King of the Mountain (according to legend). The Vale fell to the Targaryens without major skirmishes during Aegon's Conquest; it was the first region to raise in rebellion against Aerys II and more recently, it has been the only region of Westeros apart from Dorne to abstain from participating in the War of the Five Kings.

** Played straight when he's not thrilled to be engaged to Alayne Stone, Littlefinger's bastard daughter. He's highborn and the most likely heir to the Vale, while she's illegitimate and his father very recent nobility.

* OutOfFocus: Ser Mandon Moore and his ancestor Maladon are the only known members.

* NoNameGiven: The unnamed Knight of Ninestars who fought under Lord Donnel Arryn during the Battle of Redgrass Field, were he was slain by Daemon Blackfyre.
