"It's" is a contraction of "it is" or "it has"; it is not interchangeable with "its", a possessive determiner. And "that being" is Word Cruft in this context.

No chained sinkholes. Curb Stomp Battle pothole was a needless addition. Last sentence also seems unneccesary.

* An ethnomusicologist actually wrote [[http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=8869979 a thesis]] regarding the music of the franchise. The fourth game, in particular, is said to have a unique blend of Western and Japanese scales for a stylistic result that might have ''literally never been heard before'' in video games.

* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tE0aczHR8Tk A Kiss for Geese]], the very first theme for SNK's iconic FinalBoss. Pure, unadulterated rock from beginning to end that lets you know that you are in for the fight of your life.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oy3A5Y3qgDI The arranged version from the Image Album]] is a unique club-style arrangement that precedes the Cyber Edit by several years.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ck0X4QQElNc A Kiss for Geese -Cyber Edit-]] turns the song into a menacing, distorted techno remix that almost feels incomplete, reflecting Geese's younger self lacking the experience he would later gain by killing Jeff Bogard and attaining the Jin Scrolls. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqQeoQvQvRA The arranged version]] sounds like something you'd hear at a live DJ performance. It was eventually brought back in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpLqc6A6HHs KOF XIV]] as the theme for Ryo vs. Geese, combining elements from both the original and arranged versions.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uchoj7Z2Cwo Kissed by Geese]] serves as the 2nd round theme of Geese in ''Fatal Fury 3'' and ''Real Bout Fatal Fury''. It carries a sense of dread, but also decisiveness to it, as this is Geese's final battle in ''Fatal Fury'' canon before he dies for good. It actually received 2 arranged versions. One in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKyeKVMcTDo Fatal Fury 3]] that signifies Geese's grand canonical return, and another in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2RWka4BTJU Real Bout Fatal Fury]] that has a much more climactic feeling, featuring a wickedly distorted bassline.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jea9m3Qbi2Q One More Kiss for Geese]] from ''Maximum Impact'' manages to combine both aspects of "A Kiss for Geese" and "Soy Sauce for Geese" to create an absolutely epic fusion of hard rock and Japanese instruments.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUzQeX3AbcI Soy Sauce for Geese]]. The most iconic version of Geese's theme, and one that marked a completely unexpected event - him coming BackFromTheDead. This single theme fully encompasses who Geese is as a character - an unrepentantly evil bastard and formidable warrior with his own personal code of pride and honor. It's so iconic that they [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTLnkrJ-evI remastered it]] as the theme of Nightmare Geese in ''Real Bout Special'' and '''again''' as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwkAe27skPA Soy Sauce for Geese with Orchestra Hit]] for ''Real Bout 2'' and ''King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match'' as the theme of EX Geese, fittingly showing that even in death, Geese's very legacy is enough to haunt the cast, and by extension, '''[[TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou you]]'''. It got another arrangement in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wk_DwpCFFEo XI]] for the console version.
** The ''Fatal Fury Special'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytV1TnO40M4 arranged version]], the first of many, takes on a feel very similar to that of ''Samurai Shodown'', featuring a blend of traditional Japanese instruments in addition to rocking guitars.
** The ''Real Bout Fatal Fury Special'' and ''2'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIJk5OEGQLE arranged version]], also used in '''98 Ultimate Match'' as the arranged theme of EX Geese, offers a drastically different take on the song. One that is suitably more fitting for Nightmare Geese. It forgoes the Japanese instruments and is instead a heavy metal number with a very dark, imposing tone and hauntingly chilling guitar riffs. It almost gives the impression that it's a funeral dirge and final tribute to Geese.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0nyOTv7w6M Soy Sauce for Geese ~End of the First Nightmare~]] serves as his boss theme in the non-canon ''Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition''. A much darker take on his theme with an absolutely sinister ambience, rather than being a traditional rock track it is now a slow, pulse-pounding techno number. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3u463-CNPI The arranged version]] extends the song and grants it a much more terrifying presence.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbtotopWmOQ Soy Sauce for Geese -KOF XIV ver.-]] is used for rival matches between Terry and Geese. It combines the Japanese and heavy metal elements of past arrangements to give a simple but effective message: '''Geese is back'''.
** ''KOF XV'' gives us yet another remix of "Soy Sauce for Geese", this time performed in the style of ''VideoGame/SamuraiShodown'', which means the traditional rock sound that Geese's theme is known for, but now with ''[=SamSho's=]'' epic orchestral backing and full emphasis on Japanese instruments. Ladies and gentlemen, the aptly-named [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4sCoCepAWg Soy Sauce and a Dash of Sake for Geese]].
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cirb6tcuggQ Stiff Shoulders for Geese]] heralds Geese's playable debut into the world of ''King of Fighters'', and boy howdy does it deliver. By far one of the most imposing versions of his theme to date, the ominous choir and overall darker tone of the theme compared to the other versions almost makes it feel as though Geese has conquered Hell itself in order to return. Even in this alternate timeline where he isn't dead, Geese's very legacy grants him immortality. The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTcI5rUKRzQ arranged version]], befitting the symbolism, is an orchestral heavy metal arrangement. It received [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IG2p88eYBhE another]] arrangement in ''XIII'', though this time used as the alternative theme of Billy Kane, showing that Geese is always lurking in the shadows and that no KOF tournament is ever truly free of his influence.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVzJMTQ-FyY Mustard for Geese]] serves as his theme in ''King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match''. This time, the rock elements take to the background, while the Japanese instruments are brought to the forefront.
* As part of the soundtrack collection celebrating the 15th anniversary of ''Fatal Fury'', a new arrangement was made titled [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jy8HTJyUwpY An Ego for Geese]] - a jazz-style rendition of his theme, befitting his nature as a notorious crime lord.

[[AC:Individual Games/Series:]]
* ''AwesomeMusic/TheKingOfFighters''

[[AC:ESAKA]]

A line of songs that is not only associated heavily with Kyo Kusanagi and ''KOF'' as a franchise, but SNK themselves, being named after their headquarters in Osaka, Japan.

* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCYgBXbefYI "ESAKA"]], the Japan Team theme from '94. The one that would start the whole tradition. So memorable that it was re-used for ''Capcom vs. SNK''. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmFhs7ZySMM The arranged version]] has a much more heroic feeling to it. It received a new arrangement in '98, fittingly called [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukPRnBZNH24 "ESAKA '98"]], used whenever the EX version of Kyo is on a team, which gives it a more dance-like feeling. It too received [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCpIZ7h7V14 an arranged version]], which is even more epic in scale.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4Wze4Hctqg Funky ESAKA]], the Japan Team theme from '95, practically sounds like something you'd hear at a sports stadium. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xE9_aFwy9Zk The arranged version]] lives up to the name more than the original version.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukmnYjBdARs "ESAKA?"]]. Out of all the Japan Team themes, the one from '96 is easily the most well-known. A vibrant melody compounded by strong drums and beautiful keyboard and guitar work that just screams "rock anthem". It's considered by many to be one of the most iconic songs in all of fighting games, and the SNK Sound Team's MagnumOpus.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAYuXUIHB8U The arranged version]] is by far the most fondly remembered, featuring a solo that can only be described as "epic".
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJq-QG2T1Ns The '98 version]], despite a slightly slowed down pace, is by no means less powerful.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YfbvmeSCWg ESAKA? ~Acid Mix~]]. Repurposed as the theme for the Kyo clones, who both use Kyo's classic movesets and even voice clips, it naturally takes on techno influences. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8frv7ix9-aM The arranged version]], while no less awesome, also adds a sense of "wrongness" to accompany the fact that you're not dealing with the ''real'' Kyo Kusanagi, making use of radio samples and static.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o89mh5wHdbs The 2002 version]], used as the theme for Kusanagi, yet another clone of Kyo's past self. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vDx59A7wxo 2003]] brought it back with updated instrumentation, and then it got an [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGsNAcl4XBE arranged version]] which takes on a jazzier tone to it.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xL1iRM7KqkQ ESAKA!!]] from ''Unlimited Match'' gives the song a synth-rock feel. This rendition later made it into ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate'' once Terry Bogard was released.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0W5Jf-rhir0 The XI version]], used as the theme for NESTS-style Kyo, reinterprets the song with the kind of instrumentation used on ''XI'', and comes off as closer to the Acid Mix as a result, befitting it being used for the '99-2001 era Kyo.
** Despite not being fondly remembered, even [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMbrgrLoYxc XII]] got a remix.
* '97 gives us the rocking [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZTBiTssn18 ESAKA Forever]]. Unlike past examples, this song is actually used for Kyo himself, rather than his team, and thus is more representative of his cocky yet easygoing personality. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6jNyqffUok The arranged version]] cranks the rocking up a notch and has some backing guitars and basslines that emulate the sound of sizzling flames. In '98, it's used for rival matches between Kyo and Iori.
* Although not technically part of the ESAKA line, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFg4n_Y7hEo Tears]] from ''KOF '99'' thematically incorporates ESAKA? into the backing portions of the song. As the name implies, it's a mellow but somber melody that reflects and encapsulates the circumstances behind and the results of Kyo's changes. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVuon4OLtpE The arranged version]] features some soul-rending riffs to further embody the song's name.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLTf0xGW4BE Goodbye ESAKA]] from ''2000'' is widely considered by many to be SNK's swan song to the fans before their first demise, and it certainly feels that way with a melody that starts out as reflective of happier times, before suddenly shifting into a more melancholy, climactic mood. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1M_W8bGZt94 The arranged version]] doesn't hold back on the somber mood of the song, especially with the song fading out at the end rather than having an actual ending, as though SNK themselves have vanished with the wind.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACW36lBGvsY ESAKA Continues]] from ''XIII''. A theme that perfectly lets you know that Kyo and his teammates are not about to let the conflict with Ash go unfinished. It returned for ''Super Smash Bros. Ultimate''.
* And last but not least, we have [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzqasS2_L3U Yappari ESAKA]] from ''XIV''. This song marks the triumphant return of SNK, and fittingly gives the feeling of a new beginning. It also later reappeared for ''Super Smash Bros. Ultimate''. Meanwhile, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6vgRwO3sb0 Yappari ESAKA?]] is a full rearrangement of Kyo's most iconic theme, ESAKA?, using the instrumentation and tone of Yappari ESAKA, and it syncs up so perfectly you'd think it was the team's actual theme for the game. It's used when a match between Kyo and Iori in their Classic DLC outfits occurs. The best part is that in-game, if the theme playing beforehand was Yappari ESAKA, it will ''transition seamlessly and dynamically'' into the remix.

[[AC:Stormy Saxophone]]

A line of songs associated heavily with Iori Yagami. As their name implies, they are all jazz songs that always incorporate heavy usage of the saxophone.

* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Evzra9JQNTc Stormy Saxophone]], the one that started it all. A groovy number that, while mellow, carries an underlying fire within. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nk2mBSt7NsA The arranged version]] cranks the jazz UpToEleven, adding powerful drums and a breathtaking jazz flute solo.
** It received a rearrangement in '98, called [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQAAo7eYBsE Stormy Saxophone '98]], and that version got [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qGzA81obNE its own rearrangement]] which has a more funky feeling to it. Both are used when fighting Iori as the first character on a team that doesn't have Vice or Mature on it.
** It returned again in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iK_TOFv27gY KOF XI]], and in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fC_4ux1hevo KOF XIV]] for whenever Iori faces Kyo while both are in their Classic DLC costumes.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6EIjv7opyo Stormy Saxophone 2]], by far the most recognized one in the series, and it's easy to see why. It expands on the foundation set by the first, and really cuts loose with the saxophone.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bL91scCpc6M The arranged version]] is the most recognizable version, incorporating rock influences and doing the original version justice.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nq0Js6d2bXA The '98 version]], which features updated instrumentation. and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4hyAxMy0mw the 2002 version]], which comes the closest to sounding like the arranged version.
** It returend in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zs367MXPtMw XIII]] as the theme of Iori With the Power of Flames, sounding much more subdued.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WV90sdhS5uo Cool Jam ~Stormy Saxophone 3~]]. As its name implies, it's a bit more laid back than the previous entries in the series, as if to show that there is so much more to Iori's character beyond his hatred and rivalry towards Kyo. It received a remastered version in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UG04mqwU7wI '98]] which added new instrumentation.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wn22dxKCoI4 The arranged version]], which gives it a much more funky feeling and featuress even more blazing-hot saxophone licks.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rR5ZT7Kz4SI Cool Jam 2]] serves as a sequel to the original and fully cements itself as part of a separate sub-series while staying true to the Stormy Saxophone roots. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4uvHp1Jspw The arranged version]] adds even more funk.
* Much like Kyo, Iori gets a theme in '99 that while technically not part of the Stormy Saxophone line of songs, still prominently features nods to them in its melody. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFqz2X85_tQ Sadistic Eyes]] lets the players know that even though he's not center stage anymore, Iori will always be a part of ''KOF'' and his destiny will always be intertwined with Kyo's, as the theme surprisingly goes together very well with Kyo's own theme. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXPcDwqTtlM The arranged version]] cranks up the rock and jazz aspects UpToEleven.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBnHXYVkqPQ Stormy Scream ~Stormy Saxophone 4~]], the final entry in the series before SNK went bankrupt. It combines the feel of all the previous iterations to send Iori's legacy off with a blaze of glory. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIWwSPavmlM The arranged version]] follows suit, itself taking cues from the previous arranged versions of the older themes.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwqpjLfmjeQ Stormy Saxophone 5]] serves as a CallBack to Stormy Saxophone 2, as Iori has reunited with Mature and Vice, and shows that while Iori may have lost his flames, he has ''not'' lost his edge.
* And finally, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETT-pej9tAs Saxophone Under the Moon]] from ''XIV''. A triumphant return to form from the original composers of SNK and highlights Iori himself moving forward into a new era.
* For Iori-ahem, ''Miss X's'' appearance in SNK Heroines, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9LFfOropWo Stormy Saxophone Under The Moon]]. A medley featuring all previous iterations of the series.

[[folder:''The King of Fighters'']]
[[AC:The King of Fighters '94]]

* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzpuJfF5Vn8 "Jungle Bouncer"]], the theme of the Ikari Warriors Team, is almost a note-for-note recreation of "Surprise! You're Dead!" by Faith No More. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXKothYFFlE The arranged version]] is much more overt about the nod. It also got a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6AzzQzMiFo rearrangement]] in ''2002''.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pbTWhH_M2w "Hey!"]], the theme of the Women Fighters Team. An upbeat, high energy song that captures Yuri, Mai, and King's personalities perfectly. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Y1VNj66msQ The arranged version]] gives a jazzier, more party-esque feeling to the theme. An updated [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwx_NzdJrg8 arrangement]] appears in '98 as a special theme for when someone has picked the '94 version of the Women Fighters Team.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k12UcpCyJTA "Dragon & Tiger Fist"]], the theme of the Art of Fighting Team, screams "intense martial arts legacy", a trend that would continue for years to come. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyUESvLzm8k The arranged version]] adds even more intensity to it.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRszeQcxUog "Slum No. 5"]], the theme of the American Sports Team. A purely funky beat that brings plenty of energy to the table. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gegz6MDo-6o The arranged version]] feels even more jazzy.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buW1ayKtg3Q "Napolitan Blues"]], an urban-style remix of "Pasta", Andy Bogard's theme from ''Fatal Fury 2'', which is fitting because the area the Fatal Fury Team is representing is Italy. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vej7oSiB1a0 The arranged version]] makes the urban elements more subdied and brings the Italian elements to the forefront once more.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9yBnLXMGtA "Fear"]], the theme of the Korea Team. Befitting Kim's idea of taking in two criminals as his disciples, this theme has a whimsical, but still unsettling feel to it, letting you know that while Chang and Choi may be oddballs, they are still no less dangerous. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsjqpnFNfG8 The arranged version]] forgoes the unsettling feeling altogether and instead is more lighthearted.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5H8rONxplzI Duel R&D]], the first theme of Rugal Bernstein. Pure, menacing evil to the very core. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mubfyVV5sPo The arranged version]] is even more subdued, and sounds more like something you'd hear when infiltrating a base. It receives a rearrangement in '95 called [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLsiRyaNU4E Crying R - Sorrowful D]], and also has an [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PuzrMPtRLY arranged version]] which remains unreleased on any of the official soundtracks.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scXWc9Ijfkk Showdown R&D]], the main theme of Rugal Bernstein. One of the most infamous boss songs in fighting game history, because you will be hearing it a LOT as Rugal reveals his true power and proceeds to utterly kick your ass to Hell and back, so you may as well learn to enjoy the pain of being hit by Genocide Cutter. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXUduwenXSI The arranged version]] has more of a dance-mix feeling to it. It is such an iconic theme for Rugal that it is one of the most remixed songs in the entire series. It came back in '98, under the name [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FP8eyLZ8VCk XXX]], with an even more menacing feel to it with creepy static in the background. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rbueg2bK2g0 The arranged version]] outright sounds like a wrestling promo. It returned once more in 2002: Unlimited Match as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjWmSa1DQ1A Unlimited R]].

[[AC:The King of Fighters '95]]

* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYKzMzoXmUE Prisoner]], the Korea Team theme. By this point, it seems Kim's rehabilitation is starting to kick in for Chang and Choi, as the theme is more whimsical than that of its predecessor, even the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q071UzLMzC8 arranged version]]
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqGaxSFYvls Desert Requiem]], Easily one of the most memorable themes of the Ikari Warriors Team, given that the SNK Sound Team has continually had it remixed over the course of the series' history, and it even serves as the theme when Heidern, Ralf, and Clark are on the same team in ''Ultimate Match''. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPaFutxe4BM The arranged version]] is pure heavy metal and pulls no punches with its hard-hitting drums. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pr-_8d4S-ns Desert Requiem ~[=Operation01UM=]~]] has more of a focus on the "desert" aspect, with Middle Eastern instruments thrown in. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugWbtCg3bWI Desert Requiem -KOF XIV ver.-]] fits more in line with Heidern himself, as it's his theme when fought as the first member of a team in ''XIV'', and has more of a commanding tone to it.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgG5yAWmOcw Shuddering Gong]] is a particular standout from the rest of the Psycho Soldier Team's themes, as it's the only one that does not follow the pop genre motif, instead focusing on their Chinese representation. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IT55K7v1iM The arranged version]] has a more contemporary feel to it, adding in a funky bassline. It ended up rearranged in '98 as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guPCm7pLbhA Tremble! Shuddering Gong]], now taking cues from the '95 arranged version and adding rock elements.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxfoplmTW08 Club-M ~Flute in the Blue Sky~]]. Not only is it a solid theme that was brought back in ''Ultimate Match'' when using the EX versions of Terry, Andy, and Joe on the same team, but in-game it's also a case of the music being perfectly timed for when the fight actually begins. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGXrEdsEw4c The arranged version]] is softer in tone and more fitting for the environment of the stage.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHw_4puWt8o Dragon & Tiger Fist ~Shaking a Man's Heart~]] begins the trend of adding funk elements to the Art of Fighting Team themes. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fqzdvfm3YWw The arranged version]] adds some Japanese elements to it.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-uu4W0tlMI Ground-Creeping Bass]] is pure jazz, befitting it being the music for King's bar. It also ends up used as the theme for fighting the EX version fo Yuri, Mai, and King in ''Ultimate Match''. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quJYbJKV4zk The arranged version]] has a more techno feel to it, more suitable for a club.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsJJIMfX7Ho HAL, Bass, and Melody]], the theme of Saisyu Kusanagi. An intimidating theme for the father of series protagonist Kyo. It is littered with elements from Duel R&D, reflecting Saisyu being brainwashed by Rugal. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVU_JBdabBQ The arranged version]] has more of a techno influence and more overt references to Duel R&D when the pitch shifts to match it.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZtr58qIg4Y Guitar, Omega, and Rugal]], the theme of Omega Rugal. A fitting theme for the final battle against Rugal, with pulse-pounding drums and a sense of decisiveness to it. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzNVjKPVU4M The arranged version]] is more of a dance mix than anything, and contains a familiar sound sample to fans of ''VideoGame/JetSetRadio''.
* In the console versions of the game, players receive a special reward for completing the game with the Psycho Soldier Team. Instead of the standard credits across a black background, the three of them are seen in the background performing a song called [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_s7AM0t2eyo My Love ~Uplifting My Courage~]], with vocals from Athena (Moe Nagasaki). The song returns in the console versions of ''Ultimate Match'' as the theme of Athena vs. Kensou.

[[AC:The King of Fighters '96]]

* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqYlmzWdQ_w Rumbling on the City]]. One of the most memorable themes of the Ikari Warriors Team, and the start of their themes becoming more energetic to reflect the addition of Leona. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKigbfYXQ4w The arranged version]] has more distinctive and melodic guitar solos than its arcade version counterpart. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJzMOTJxrns The '98 version]] updates the original with better instrumentation.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLda-3aPW_Q Seoul Road]]. As if to showcase the CharacterDevelopment of Chang and Choi under Kim's tutelage, their team themes begin to take on a more heroic vibe starting here, with a song that screams "Evil is unforgivable!". [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuMspVWT9Eo The arranged version]] is pure rock, which Kim's themes had begun to exhibit starting with ''Real Bout Fatal Fury''. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzAaU0_O8Jc XIV]] brought it back as the theme of Kim vs. Chang & Choi, having taken on a slightly more sorrowful tone showing Kim's disappointment that his two disciples have seemingly gone back to a life of crime.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AR2yvdXfpE Longhorn Beetle]]. Reflecting Yuri's addition to the team in place of Takuma, the Art of Fighting Team theme now sounds much more lively. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wg3vZIcE_uY The arranged version]] is jazzier and has more western influences.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaY1luOMuo0 Get'n Up]]. With the addition of Kasumi Todoh, the Women Fighters' Team theme now takes cues from Art of Fighting 3's jazz and house-themed soundtrack. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGF-sF2z-o0 The arranged version]] sounds like something befitting an extravagant night on the town, which perfectly suits the stage being a restaurant at the top of a skyscraper.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6FGkWPXdj4 Dust Man]]. A slow, enigmatic beat with an undeniably urban feel to it. A perfect fit for the deadly crime boss and pimp that is Mr. Big. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VWV3AF857o The arranged version]] sounds like something you'd hear in a survival horror game, with creepy bells and heavy, distorted breathing noises.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lseEsjtm1Ms Fairy]]. A powerful yet graceful melody that perfectly captures Chizuru Kagura's character and gives a sense of finality to the tournament itself. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKZfVCW3PUE The arranged version]], however, manages to one-up the original by giving it the same energy as "ESAKA?" and turning it into a powerful rock track that is fondly remembered and praised by many as one of the best tracks in ''KOF''. It would go on the be rearranged in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fK02KL7Lspo '98]]. It returns in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fK02KL7Lspo 2003]] as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EacUtb-GiSk Sacredness ~ Fairy]], used for as the theme for both Chizuru and Maki Kagura.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAZgXyLZJKE Trash Head]], the theme of Goenitz. A grandiose, menacing theme befitting of the mastermind behind the events of the Orochi Saga. And you'll be hearing it a lot as you try and dodge his onslaught of summoned tornadoes. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MkPA1lRWyg The arranged version]] sounds like a triumphant military march and brilliantly utilizes distortions to reflect Goenitz's wind element. It returns in ''Unlimited Match'' as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOJPJT_5Kgc Trash Head ~Spring Has Come~]] with a more symphonic rock flavor, befitting Goenitz's nature as a priest.
* Completing the game with the Japan Team has [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=077-KVYhPL8 Self]] as the ending theme, and it overtakes the credits theme in the same manner as My Love from '95. This particular version of the song, however, is less significant than its arranged version, called [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zncoTy9fr6U Setting Sun & Moon]], which is an ImageSong sung by both Kyo (Masahiro Nonaka) and Iori (Kunihiko Yasui) that gives a somber, but meaningful glimpse into their complicated rivalry.

[[AC:The King of Fighters '97]]
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nN6eWJLvbg Control Crisis]], the Orochi Iori/Orochi Leona sub-boss theme for ''[='97=]'', sounds more like a ''VideoGame/GuiltyGear'' track than something SNK would do. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBgKHBtXhqE The arrange version is even better.]]
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPX1_dmIseY Rhythmic Hallucination, the '97 Orochi team theme.]] Ominous and imposing. Its [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jS7EPzE-R8s arranged version]] combines it with heavily distorted guitars, weird noises and a OneWomanWail.
** In ''[='98=]'', this got expanded even further, with "Rhythmic Hallucination" being given to Orochi Yashiro alone. In its place, Orochi Shermie gets the subdued yet fitting [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2km0abdZdj4 Fanatic Waltz]], and Orochi Chris gets the downright sinister [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9q2kmCXVzn8 Mad Fantasy.]] Their [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNSj8NKAr8c arranged]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoxSLlGN-60 versions]] are even better.
** And eventually culminated into [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WFF-mw3wLU this]] for ''KOF 2002: Unlimited Match''. Fun.
** The New Faces Team's ''non''-Orochi forms also had pretty killer music (no pun intended) in the form of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGlcVIpL6nw Bloody]]. Naturally, this too was remolded when ''Unlimited Match'' came along. The end result? [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WnNopFQ3MA Re:Bloody.]]
%%** Their [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNSj8NKAr8c arranged]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoxSLlGN-60 versions.]]
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNGq7ZWqVBo The Origin of Mind]], for Orochi himself. Trippy, ominous, oddly serene, and hard to identify. It fits Orochi completely. The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLLLYxBkwog arranged version]] has almost an Arabian sound to it, then throws in some synthesisers and killer guitars.

[[AC:To Be Sorted]]

* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAyIh9JBnM4 Showdown R&D, Rugal Bernstein's theme.]] Very energetic, and a song you'll be hearing quite a bit since you'll be losing to Rugal so often. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXUduwenXSI This]] is the arranged version.
** And, [[{{Leitmotif}} just like Geese]], "Ketchaku R" has been subject to a few remixes over the years: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PR78hDcp7aE XXX]] in ''KOF '98'' and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nBBBs3FyOM Unlimited R]] in ''KOF 2002: Unlimited Match''.
** The song was arranged [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEZNaib2IH0 one last time]] before the original SNK went down.
** Now with a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-Wwx1DTpFY NES version.]]
** His ''other'' themes, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdTL7v522u8 Guitar, Omega, and Rugal]] in ''[='95=]'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQjBUXOE5Yw The RR]] in ''[='98=]'', and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0cYnmIqlac Last Dance]] in ''2002'', have their fair share of fans too. Although "Last Dance", to be honest, has the smallest circle of fans compared to the other themes. Thank you, Eolith.
** And there's the theme of Rugal's son Adel: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4IopxsATfk Revolutionary Etude~R2.]] It starts out as a Chopin piece, and then goes into full-blown techno. His ''XI'' theme, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbOwFakaBCQ King]] is ''even better''. And its [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5auHZkvw_7E arranged version]] is ''even better than that.''
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BSCSmji7OE Tears]] and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFqz2X85_tQ Sadistic Eyes]] are among two of the best boss themes in ''[='99=]'', used for the [[spoiler:two "hidden" final bosses, Kyo Kusanagi and Iori Yagami]]. Interestingly, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbUIXxtb4-U when superimposed,]] their respective tones fit each other perfectly, and seem to assimilate and even ''complete'' each other into something even more epic (if '''[[LoudnessWar loud]]'''). [[YaoiFangirl Ladies]], [[WildMassGuessing make of that]] [[HoYay what you will.]]
* Krizalid and his theme [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXkkzsHx4hc Dear Falling Angel]] from ''[='99=]'', sounds like the distilled essence of pure technological awesome. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVyj3xDWMXA This]] is the arranged version.
** Also worth mentioning in ''[='99=]'' is the K' Team's Theme [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgjJtFdcpng KD-0079.]] What a way to open up with a new hero for the saga.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzqBkXT1FAg This]] is the arranged version and ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jHa8VpMxsY this]]'' is supposedly the ''original'' arranged version of KD-0079. Holy... Both were cranked UpToEleven with [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfrv4fVP28E Cutting Edge]] and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DNvjWdrtZk KD-0079+]] in ''Unlimited Match''.
** KD-0079 eventually got remixed for [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49yy02D5PSE KOF XIV]].
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Y-cHWCZjIk Slasher Zero]], for Clone Zero in ''2000''. Nearly all percussion and of an impossible-to-identify musical genre, it's one of the darkest themes in the series.
** The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9OUATNwOI4 arranged version]] features a very Indian-ish tune near the end of the song.
** On the subject of Zero, both the clone and the original were given pretty slick tunes in ''2002: Unlimited Match''. Original Zero's theme is [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dNW-6UDa_0 Testament of N.E.S.T.S.]], an imperialistic march that has a hint of undying duty and sadness while Clone Zero was given [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJKMX7676hA Dark Gravitation]], a song that has split some fans on whether or not it's better than "Slasher Zero" (a song that was heralded as "pure evil in audio form".)
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ttQl5jbpcw An Improvised Concerto]], for Magaki. As classical piano, it's surprisingly subdued, but no less awesome.
* ''VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters 2002: Unlimited Match'' made up for ''2001'' and ''2002'''s rather poor soundtracks with a new soundtrack, and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sd-phVGbouY oh]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fy16dCouwc8 what]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yx4-B8kA-o8 a]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3q-AmhhFf8 difference]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4fF6Tw9AFg it]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_edVnvd5t0 makes.]] It also gives [[AnIcePerson Kula Diamond]] a long due deserved song (since the wonderful [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SSwIRp75pI Ice Place]]) that is [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnxJtCq96dE actually kickass]]. Ice Place would get a remix in ''XIV'' and plays [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyXHZAx6vI8 when Kula and Angel face each other]].
* ''The King of Fighters 2000'', essentially the old SNK's swan song, has an appropriately awesome soundtrack. Nowhere is this exemplified more than in Kyo's theme, the appropriately titled [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_M8T-23D2Zs Goodbye Esaka]]. You can pretty much feel all the emotions of SNK's (brief) demise.
** The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6EjwPw2LlI remix for XIII]] is nothing to sneeze at either.
** The rest of the Esaka series is no slouch in terms of amazing muscial direction either. First up was [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8T3el2F_E8g Esaka]] in ''The King of Fighters '94''. While [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEtoPE0XpiY Funky Esaka]] is usually passed over due to SoundtrackDissonance, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VHXy8MG-HU Esaka?]] in ''[='96=]'' is one of the most notable (if not ''the'' most notable) tracks in the series and returned as the Japan team's theme in ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcvB8KcOzgE '98]]'' (also give a listen to the ''[='=]96'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAYuXUIHB8U arrange version]] of the theme). In fact, it's so popular that it was reused several times over the course of the series: first in ''[='99=]'' for his clones Kyo-1 and Kyo-2 as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeS7VCK8Cmw Esaka ~Acid Mix~]], as a part of the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNh0PV5U10s real Kyo's theme in the same game]], again for his clone/evil magical doppelganger Kusanagi's theme in ''2002'' ([[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXQzHmrJMdw Esaka '02]]) and ''2003'' ([[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-tpg0DAlvQ Esaka '03]]), as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0W5Jf-rhir0 two]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-q4ooDSZU0U remixes]] for EX Kyo in ''XI'', and as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UY7NHkLmoW8 Esaka!!]] in ''2002: Unlimited Match''. Finally, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aL8KiPsrvU Esaka Forever]] in ''[='97=]'' memorably brought the {{Orochi}} Saga (and Kyo's stint as protagonist) to its fated conclusion.
** ''XII'' has its [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-HV96FprKY own version]] as a bonus soundtrack.
** In ''XIV'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F57S-CdufWU Yappari Esaka]] serves as Team Japan's theme. And just when you thought it couldn't get any better by taking cues from the original "Esaka?" from '96, we have now come full circle. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6vgRwO3sb0 Yappari Esaka?]] is a full remix of the original song done completely in the style of the newer version.
* At the other end of the spectrum are [[TheRival Iori Yagami]]'s jazz-heavy themes with screaming saxophones, the Arashi no Saxophone (that's "Stormy Saxophone" for those who don't know Japanese) series: It started in ''The King of Fighters '95'' with [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aht_nDKMf70 Arashi no Saxophone]] (which was popular enough to be rearranged in ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-als-ojUPiQ KOF '98]]'' and again in ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iK_TOFv27gY XI]]''), then continued with [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6EIjv7opyo Arashi no Saxophone 2]] in ''[='96=]'' (ditto in ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVcMi1CHDO8 2002]]'' and ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJ40_kH4HrY XIII as EX Iori]]'' ), [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gR56lz3l8oI Cool Jam (Arashi no Saxophone 3)]] in ''[='97=]'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBnHXYVkqPQ Stormy Scream (Arashi no Saxophone 4)]] in ''2000'', and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rR5ZT7Kz4SI Cool Jam 2]] in ''2003'', then finally XIII gives us [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwqpjLfmjeQ Arashi no Saxophone 5.]] For the new story arc starting in ''XIV'', the Yagami Team gets [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hg1u4Zxo3eQ Saxophone Under the Moon]] as their theme song. The original Stormy Saxophone eventually got a remix in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fC_4ux1hevo KOF XIV]], fittingly as the rival theme between Kyo and Iori with their classic DLC outfits on.
* Whenever Benimaru and/or [[AscendedFanboy Shingo]] end up on a team without Kyo, their themes tend to rival (or even ''surpass'') his themes in the same game. See [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meBWcPoTrpw Still Green]] in ''KOF '97'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TknOsDVDuKU Inner Shade]] in ''2000'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyLdMiExZ-s Joyrider]] in ''2003'', and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-Xy-RTdYrs Asia Sangokudomei (Triple Alliance of Asia)]] in ''2002: Unlimited Match''.
** On the subject of "Still Green", [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpO0qCXAx6A SNK did a ska version of the song]]. A ''ska'' version. And it ''still'' sounds amazing.
** The OST version of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BB4SX3hdla8 "Inner Shade"]] from ''[=KoF=] 2000'' actually sounds better than the arranged version.
** ''XI'' has a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbdxUCoJB6E pretty good rendition of "Still Green"]] as well.
* If any of Kim's themes have the word "UsefulNotes/{{Seoul}}" in them, that song is usually ''guaranteed'' to be awesome. It began with [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6gb0XQ4UdM Seoul ni Ikou! (Let's Go to Seoul!)]] in ''VideoGame/FatalFury 2''/''Fatal Fury Special''. Then came [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gbhn7D4i6n0 Seoul Town]] in ''Real Bout Fatal Fury''/''KOF '98'' (the ''[='98=]'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofLJSu2fxwI version]] was bashed to the point that the music team [[UpToEleven one-upped]] the song into [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clNw3QDVvKw Seoul Town ~Ver. Justice]] in ''KOF 2002: Unlimited Match''). Next was [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKtPWoMJJyo Seoul Road]] in ''KOF '96''. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rj9dIETvNMo Seoul'ssu]] followed in ''Real Bout Fatal Fury Special''. Finally, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jW2yVE5AazY Seoul Love]] in ''KOF 2003'' rounds out the series.
** While not "Seoul" per se, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_ygx9m4os0 Attack Me!]] from ''Fatal Fury Wild Ambition'' stands out in a game where the music was probably the only remarkable feature.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scUEVFH9RzE The Way to Rebirth]] from ''[='99=]'' and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Lrlut8oXZ0 Wild Party]] from ''2000''. Ever since "Seoul Road" in ''[='96=]'', Kim and his Korean cohorts have received a fair share of awesome.
** ''KOF XIV'' remixes Seoul Road as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzAaU0_O8Jc the Fated Battle theme whenever Kim fights Chang or Choi]].
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lseEsjtm1Ms Fairy, Chizuru's theme]] from ''KOF '96'' and its [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKZfVCW3PUE arranged version]], as well as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIDeD1CaZ8c Sacredness ~ Fairy]] from ''KOF 2003''. Rock and gospel have never sounded so great together.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOTu5wAvUuI London March]], Billy's theme from ''KOF '97'' (and a majority of Billy's other appearances) also sounds like it'd go hand-in-hand with ''VideoGame/GuiltyGear'' (the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DImHil9k5P8 arranged version]] even more so.) [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXwN51-06c4 N.D.R.]], his theme from ''Real Bout Fatal Fury'', is also rocking, and the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1doX6aca2s arranged version]] from ''KOF '98'' throws synthesisers into the mix.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUup73QPANk In Spite Of One's Age]], the theme of the Oyaji/Master Team from ''KOF '98''. And if you thought that was good, wait until you hear [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwB7K__AYAA Ver. Immortal]] from ''2002: Unlimited Match''.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsTZhxJdeu8 Psycho Soldier K.O.F Remix]] from ''KOF '94''. It's a catchy and memorable J-Pop/J-Rock song. The OST rendition from ''[=KoF=] '96'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYth6yqO2Ss pumps up the bass!]]
** Its remixes in ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-7d8OUpakc '96]]'', ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkxang37tFk '97]]'', ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7YuOBRDcGc 2002]]'', and ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoTnDDk10ZY 2002: Unlimited Match]]'' aren't bad either.
** From ''[='95=]'', there's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBbUD2SMQmk Senritsu no Dora (The Shuddering Gong)]], apparently carried over from ''VideoGame/PsychoSoldier'' as well. Pretty funky. Its [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVQi3XhUZxw Best Arrange Collection version]] has a more commanding and triumphant feel.
** The arranged version of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXcq5O0rQhE You Feel For Me]], the theme of the [[{{Joshikousei}} High School Girls Team]], gives off this happy-go-lucky, club mix vibe. Also, there's the light-hearted and relaxing [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOhXj55WY34 Pure ~ At Good Old Days]] for the Neo Psycho Soldier Team in ''XI''.
* In a series filled to the brim with rock, jazz, and pop, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03xftbph53g Slam No. 5]] (or is it [[SpellMyNameWithAnS Slum No. 5?]]) from ''KOF '94'' stands out as a cool hip-hop track. Also, make sure to catch the ''[='98=]'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSX88W4V92c version]].
* K' seems to have his own string of pure, unadulterated awesome. Aside from the aforementioned "KD-0079", there's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSVIUelRhBY KD-0084]] in ''2000'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmBRIU3xNdM KD]] in ''2003'', and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pFVOyZAtj4 KDD-0075]] in ''XI''.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2NFTAk_ER0 New Order]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgjphKdKQpk Rinrin]], and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yHeYARt0Rk Secret Circumstances]], all from ''XI''. The first is a essentially a fusion of "Esaka" and "Arashi no Saxophone"; the second is jazzy; the last one sounds like the score for the next ''Film/JamesBond''. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnyGkNRcogw A remix of New Order]] plays as Kyo and Iori's Fated Battle Theme while Vanessa would get a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAMqxvZshF0 remix]] of Secret Circumstances in ''XIV''.
* The [[VideoGame/IkariWarriors Ikari]] Team has some rocking tunes as well. See [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ovCp9HXn-o Jungle Bouncer]] from ''[='94=]'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-T4K7KwQ4Y Desert Requiem]] from ''[='95=]'' ([[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_4eWWLd_s8 Remixed for 2002 UM]]), [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3SdXasEj7Y Rumbling on the City]] from ''[='96=]'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpZFoBwADwg W.W.III]] from ''[='99=]'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00r91g9wc5Y The Trooper]] from ''2000'', and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eKL8Erodqg Inside Skinny]] from ''2003'', and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrnrA5arBuY Smell of Gunpowder]] from ''XI''. W.W.III eventually got a remix for [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GktZ5cKjac KOF XIV]], as did [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugWbtCg3bWI Desert Requiem]].
* The very original [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUsk48v9bU0 IKARI theme]] from the classic ''VideoGame/IkariWarriors'' got a remix after decades since its debut. Surprisingly, it never got an official remix till XIV rolled in, raising a greater feeling of nostalgia now that it has been brought back. Sadly, it only plays when Ralf and Clark face off against each other.
* While it might not have the staying power or nostalgic value of "Esaka" or "Tears", [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YqPfifOWf8 Blaze]], Kyo's ''other'' solo theme from ''KOF 2003'', has its own merits.
* [[GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff Love]] [[CreatorsPet him]] or [[ReplacementScrappy hate him]], Ash Crimson's themes are deliciously sinister, a testament to just how far he's strayed from the typical protagonistic mold. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjPwtksOiW8 Splendid Evil]] in ''KOF 2003'' kicked it off and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-1xYnuKZoY Joker]] in ''XI'' eventually becomes something akin to ''VideoGame/GuiltyGear''-lite (thanks in part to a killer guitar). Joker eventually got remixed in ''XIV'', but repurposed and suitably re-arranged as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-GAjMFDGac Oswald's theme]].
* The ''VideoGame/ArtOfFighting'' Team have written plenty of awesome music. Most songs have an Oriental flair to them, which serves to only amp up the awesome and keep you pumped for the fight. Try [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2D9HbRQVP0 Ryuuko to Ken (Dragon, Tiger, and Fist)]] in ''KOF '95'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBd7NQoiNSY Ryu-Ko]] in ''[='99=]'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-7UTEQW6a4 Beauty and the Beast]] from ''2000'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWEFFsLgv9o Kyoku-gen]] in ''2003'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVTZlx_kkKI After a Long Absence]] in ''XI'', and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFr54AJcF1k Art of Fight ~ Ryuko to Tsubame (Art of Fight ~ Dragon, Tiger, and Swallow)]] in ''2002: Unlimited Match''. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvC7HQxiZCc Kamikirimushi (Praying Mantis)]] from ''[='96=]'' wasn't half bad either. In ''XIV'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igeiTHLy-ok Tiger & Dragon]] serves as their theme song.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRtheIyKzSI Zhe Prime]], the riveting and yet melancholic theme of Nameless. Fitting doesn't even describe it.
* The Women Fighters Team were not without great music either, which usually either fell into the category of catchy (think club-type beats) or soothing. See [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ve0uoh1iJs0 Ne!]] from ''KOF '94'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQ4NhM-XoX0 Tsuchi o Hau Bass (Ground Creeping Bass)]] from ''[='95=]'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZpenVlaZYA Sha-La-La]] from ''[='99=]'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7aSDcSgXiw Come up Smiling]] from ''2000'', and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdvtIdlA_Ig Destiny]] from ''2002: Unlimted Match''.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJpzLiQYJWQ Antinomy ~Mutually Exclusive Dichotomy~]], the theme of the [[CloningBlues Kyo Clone Team]] from ''KOF 2002: Unlimited Match''. It starts out a contender for ''the'' darkest BGM you'll ever hear in a fighting game (which is fitting considering that [[EvilTwin evil, magical doppelganger]] Kusanagi is depicted as looking downright AxCrazy with a SlasherSmile that would put [[PsychoForHire Yamazaki]] to shame). Then, around the post-1:00 mark, the song picks up and starts to feel... oddly heroic. Of course, you're right to back to square one after that brief moment of uplifting.
* A cruel subversion with ''The King of Fighters 2001'', which is almost unaminously hailed as the series' low point in musical score (justified; this ''was'' when SNK was paired with Eolith due to bankruptcy). Even with the extreme repetition found in the songs, fans still have their favorites like [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cs-yQtdW02o Kare Koso Saikyo (He is The Mightest)]] (Igniz's theme), [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iePJ3K0d_zg The Invincible Flame]] (Japan Team theme), and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lwty4V_VCqU The Undying Sun/The Immortal Mirror of the Sun]] (Rival Team[[note]]Agent Team plus Iori[[/note]] theme).
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEzaX1X5C2g Ruler of the Dark]], the theme of the NESTS Team in ''2001''. The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TAleq1wZx0 arranged version]] is even better.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kELAh8_7ArU Psychic Guys]] (Psycho Soldier Team), [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZIcZNl9BcY Nerichagi]] (Team Korea), and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95mStzIk4Wk The Queen of Fighters]] (Women Fighters Team) aren't bad either; they're just painfully short. The original versions of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WayJ8aUot0 The Invincible Flame]] and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjH3adSW9mU The Queen of Fighters]] also hold up well against their arranged counterparts.
* ''The King of Fighters XII'' also had a very well-done soundtrack. Unlike previous games, the music used is based on the stage rather than the team or character. There are two versions each as well with one only slightly differing from the other. However, the real eye (or ear) opener is the AST versions of the soundtrack. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGm3gz4gsMA Here]] is a preview, and the whole AST can be heard [[https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3710C50C9DAFC1FF here.]]
* ''KOF: [[AlternateContinuity Maximum Impact]]'' was not without some [[TotallyRadical banging]] tracks as well. Feast your ears on [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTnaLwVu-XM The Usual C'mon]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYLj2233nWI Can You Listen Until the Guitar Solo]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFOqKZUCexo At Toyotsu-Chou Suita City]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QP0NFMThzng The Trumpeter Under The Bridge]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpzBIjuII6U Dangerous Parking Lot]] (watch out for the [[ClusterFBomb Cluster]] [[NWordPrivileges N-Bomb]] starting at 1:21), [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6RGc8OP7a8 Gaining Strength Under the Waterfall]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cqr79c-j-GE Flying Tremolo Arm]], and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZU8YPaE-zM Requiem for 50,000 People]].
** From ''2'', we have a new version of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvcgk6EMfF0 The Usual C'mon]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OC_PfFnUM-I There's a Semi-Sale in That Forest]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouiyZjiG-bc The Japanese Parisian]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ej8BVRo7eTA Gloom of the Cowman]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GL3qRAZJ-S4 Mozokusu in the Mosque]], and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnV35exFR9E Giving a Manicure to the Fingernails of Darkness]].
** ''Regulation A'' gives us [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Uy7DG_PN-o Please Select]]. Perhaps the catchiest menu select theme ever.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnYgXhm__9k DENGANAMANGANA]], a remix of Mizoguchi's theme from Fighter's History.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hQ5fyrc8O0 ENRIEDO ~The Detached Impure World~]] is the perfect theme for the final boss stage. It's also originally from ''[[VideoGame/SengokuSNK Sengoku 3]]'' and served as the final stage theme for that game.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMJWm2ZprSg SOUTEN KUMOGAI ~Blue Heaven~]], the theme for the alternate Kyokugen Dojo stage. Also taken from ''Sengoku 3'', where it served as the Italy stage theme.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3H1rPHgYL4 Regal Old Woman]], the credits music.
* And now that KOF XIII's been released, you can treat your ears to a new batch of great music:
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAh0pt4Xwew The character select theme]] does a very good job getting you pumped for the many battles to come.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuMMqlzzE28 The Second Joker]], Ash Crimson's theme.
** The revamped Elisabeth Team joins the fray with the very ''Franchise/{{Castlevania}}''-ish [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFhS3fAGx2M Each Promise.]]
** The ''original'' Japan Team (Kyo, Benimaru, and Daimon) return to the ring with [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgG-UspU1x0 Esaka Continues...]] Yes, [[SuspiciouslySimilarSong it does sound almost exactly like]] "New Order" from ''XI''.
** Continuing his trend of melancholy jazz, Iori Yagami brings you [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKo6lzpYw-k Arashi no Saxophone 5.]]
** Why don't you do K' a favor and rock out to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-69TSm6JNYs KDD-0063]] as he wipes the floor with you?
** The [[VideoGame/FatalFury Lonely Wolves]]' newest theme, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MflWCmcRRmg Wild Street.]] [[SuspiciouslySimilarSong It's like]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxYAGsh5fzU Street Dancer]] from ''XI'', only injected with 250% more rock.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXNZg9AItgE Kyokugen Training! ~ Mountain Seclusion.]] Ryo & co. must workout to this.
** It's time to go on an [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uA8WHU54tlw Irregular Mission]] with the Ikari Warriors!
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lc_YcOpw51M Purity Soldiers]], the lighthearted theme of the Psycho Soldier Team. The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qfJr1UBji0 scrapped version of Purity Soldiers]] is pretty good too though you'll only hear it on a handful of Japanese match videos during the interlude.
** The Women Fighters Team and their sultry theme, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXjW-LYcbHQ Who is Queen.]]
** Kim is going to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBtFWXegtg0 Tame a Bad Boy]] with '''[[MemeticMutation JUSTICE!]]'''
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgE7dJMfYKg Fate]], the calamitous theme of Saiki, which seems to incorporate elements of Magaki and Mukai's themes, fittingly enough. The console release nets Saiki [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C96tEFCOnuI two seperate]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIfmq2doX3E and equally sinister]] themes for his playable, clothed form.
** And how else to bring the Ash saga to a close than with [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlhEDB4w1gU Diabolosis]], the theme of Dark Ash? It's a very chilling, atmospheric piece, fitting of the final battle's nature.
* Similarly, the menu theme for ''[=KoF-i=]'', as heard [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6CjT91nLrM here]]. It's also the Main Menu theme to XIII.
* While ''2002''[='s=] soundtrack was somewhat lacking due to SNK's financial crisis at the time, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6Lb9qV3Qkc Napolitan Trance]], the theme of K9999 and the NESTS Team, was quite good, despite the repetitiveness. For some people, it may also be the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OK4R8cHoozI intro]] and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmuM0dn5YJ4 player select]] themes, even if one's based on the other.
* ''XIV'', being the series' big transition to 3D rendering, made sure to try and pack some great tunes in.
** The ImageSong for ''XIV'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JscLcDLBWzY Follow Me]], has already become [[MemeticMutation memetic]] in the fandom for its catchy, hype-inducing melody and its presence in nearly every trailer for the game. '''[[MetalScream WO-OH-OH-OOOOOOOOAH!!!]]'''
** As usual, the Japan Team have an energetic and powerful electronic rock theme in the form of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzqasS2_L3U "Yappari Esaka".]] It samples both the team's XIII theme and their classic 96 theme, giving a feeling of paying tribute to the past history of not only Kyo and his team, but the real life Esaka station that serves as both their stage and SNK's old home. Above all, this theme lets you know that KOF is truly here again.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETT-pej9tAs Saxophone Under The Moon]], the theme for the Yagami Team. Iori's penchant for orgasmic jazz music has blessed him, Mature and Vice well.
** If you thought "Wild Street" rocked your socks off, wait until you listen to the new Fatal Fury Team theme, "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyMLWWO37Go Departure from South Town]]". A high-octane rocking piece guaranteed to get anyone pumped when fighting in their home stage, in which the song fits very well, too.
** The theme for the Villains Team, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzAZMa2xgzQ "Wa",]] is a gritty industrial piece with distorted guitars and dubstep influences, appropriate for a team of convicted prisoners. It also has moments of creepy ambience which are especially fitting for series newcomer Xanadu, the mysterious cultist who lead Chang and Choi after they escaped from Kim.
** For the South Town Team, we have [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bx1Qea8_WGc "Soy Sauce For Koyadofu",]] a very intense combination of hard rock and traditional Japanese instruments, as expected from Geese Howard and his syndicate. And if that doesn't do it for you, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbtotopWmOQ Geese's classic theme]] makes a return if he fights against Terry. This remix is very fitting, standing out among all the rival battle themes for capturing the feel of a bloodthirsty brawl between these two longtime foes. The 2.0 update added [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpLqc6A6HHs this remix]] of the Art of Fighting 2 version of Geese's theme, fittingly for Ryo vs. Geese matches.
** The new Psycho Soldier Team theme, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPpvntmPv84 "tachi bou ke"]], turned some heads for not only being another fun J-pop tune to go along with Athena's character themeing, but being the first ''[=KoF=]'' song, and possibly the first major fighting game song, to use a ''{{Music/Vocaloid}}'' as its primarily vocalist. The vocal version is saved for all Athena vs. Kensou fights, while the instrumental version without the Vocaloid is the stage theme for the Psycho Soldier Team's stage, "The Bund". Even cooler is how it functions on the Bund stage itself - if a team match leads to Athena vs. Kensou mid-match, the vocals will kick in ''seamlessly'' with no interruption to the music. If Athena vs. Kensou ends and the match overall continues, the vocals will fade back out.
** The mysterious Official Invitation Team bring with them [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plFnAGcZ37s "Venatore Ballare",]] a very unusual theme for the KOF series. It's a bombastic orchestra track with vocals sung in Italian, very appropriate for the opera house/masquerade arena theme that is their home stage.
** The final boss music, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGM-QfEvHkA Independence From An Aggregate]], is a major shoutout to ''Manga/{{Akira}}''. The theme itself starts off with an ominous atmosphere, then the rhythmic percussions of Japanese instruments and chanting starts playing. Its no holds barred.
** Antonov's theme, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0pRsStFZ8w I'm THE KING OF FIGHTERS]], has a great guitar riff and solos, plus some epic orchestral parts.
** The credits theme, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJtlhDBgtxg Burning On]], sounds like something that would play as the series' swan song, but with a lot of developments for ''XIV'' (a proper shift to 3D for the main series, the start of a new story arc, etc.), it leaves fans hopeful and excited for what the future holds for SNK and the ''King of Fighters''.
* Version 2.0 of ''XIV'' adds some new songs to the game, most of which are remixes. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubvaqSNwh94 Emergence]], Rock Howard's new theme, perfectly captures the spirit of classic SNK music before their first "death". Very reminiscent of Goodbye Esaka and Fairy, and appropriately uplifting for seeing a massive fan favorite finally join a canon KOF game.
* When Gai Tendo from ''VideoGame/BurikiOne'' appeared in ''XI'', he came with an awesome remake of his original theme. Behold [[https://youtu.be/RukgozfNDaw The Kickboxer]]!
* Ending and credits themes don't get too much attention, but they are often great. Here's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUs5aTzZ6lo Mirthless]], the staff roll theme from ''[='97=]'', a charming, slow blues-like theme. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvPFXDyk-TY Serious]], one of the ending BGM from ''2003'', has an epic and melancholic feel that makes great use of the typical KOF rock style.
* Version 3.0 of ''XIV'' adds in two original themes.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jzi0QqbkODY Successor]], Najd's theme. An ominous tune with a distinct middle-eastern feel to it despite not using any middle-eastern instruments whatsoever.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQ0xpKH9E1g Full Burst]], the theme of Shun'ei vs. Kukri, cementing them as the main rivals of the new saga.

This single theme fully encompasses who Geese is as a character - an unrepentantly evil bastard and formidable warrior with his own personal code of pride and honor. It got another arrangement in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wk_DwpCFFEo XI]] for the console version.

** The ''Real Bout Fatal Fury Special'' and ''2'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIJk5OEGQLE arranged version]], also used in '98 Ultimate Match as the arranged theme of EX Geese, offers a drastically different take on the song. One that is suitably more fitting for Nightmare Geese. It forgoes the Japanese instruments and is instead a heavy metal number with a very dark, imposing tone and hauntingly chilling guitar riffs. It almost gives the impression that it's a funeral dirge and final tribute to Geese.

** The ''Real Bout Fatal Fury Special'' and ''2'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIJk5OEGQLE arranged version]], also used in '98 '''98 Ultimate Match Match'' as the arranged theme of EX Geese, offers a drastically different take on the song.
** Finally, we have [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbtotopWmOQ Soy Sauce for Geese -KOF XIV ver.-]]. Used for rival matches between Terry and Geese, it combines the Japanese and heavy metal elements of past arrangements to give a simple but effective message: '''Geese is back'''.
It received [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IG2p88eYBhE another]] arrangement in ''XIII'', though this time used as the alternative theme of Billy Kane, showing that Geese is always lurking int he shadows and that no KOF tournament is ever truly free of his influence.

If you're just going to use "note", the labelnote markup is pointless. Use the note markup instead.

Why is this potholed to itself?

** "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KIB6hUO1Io Discharge]]" is a unique theme for the [[FinalBoss Final Boss]], having more of a horror vibe in contrast to the standard "Final Attack" that played throughout the series. And when those drums kick in, you KNOW you're in for a ''really'' intense fight with an alien.
