Although not an especially well known work of his, Kadath has been called one of Lovecraft's greatest and most epic pieces of writing, as well as one of the most uncharacteristically optimistic ones, and is a wonderful example of how even a man who lived in a world of nightmares could still conceive tales of awesomeness and hope.
- Randolph Carter outwits Nyarlathotep Himself at the very end. The sequence in which he remembers exactly what the Crawling Chaos said, realizes he still has his free will and proceeds to use it is some of Lovecraft's best writing.
