• Ruth Huckabee's emergency surgery on Lorna, after Carver shoots her at her wedding. While John is going on his Roaring Rampage of Revenge after Carver, Ruth gives Lorna - whom everyone else thinks is dead - wine to revive her, then literally reaches into the wound with her own fingers to remove the bullet. That bullet must not actually have gone very far inside, to be sure; in the 17th century and long thereafter, any abdominal wound that penetrated the organs would be certain - and agonizing - death.
