• Sarah Baartman, aka the Hottentot Venus was a black woman in the late 18th century who is famous for her unusual for the time body type and a source of extremely racist scientific studies and erotic projection. Some black women in recent times have made an effort to reclaim Baartman's story to celebrate curvaceous body types.
