Chapter Final: Always With Me

Kazfiel: So you were Merkabah the whole time? And Lucifer? Why did you deceive us, Lord Satan?\'

Satan: It was in accordance with the reason of the universe. I don\'t expect a lower being like you to understand.

Lucifuge: Lower being? Why I... Hoe could you betray us like that, Lord Lucifer?

Satan: I did not betray you. Lucifer\'s feelings were his own. And it is within the reason of the universe to challenge the current reason. Come, let us return to my other self.

We return to Satan (the one we defeated, not the one in our party) to be guided to YHVH\'s Throne. He bids us close our eyes and meditate, and when we do we find ourselves on an enormous staircase surrounded by blinding lights. The game calls this area \"Non-Euclidean Space.\" There\'s nowhere to go but up the stairwell, passing through three immense doors. At each door, a powerful voice bids us turn back, offering us mercy if we do so.

Nanashi: Nah, shove off.

(As NANASHI approaches the final door, his phone blazes with light and ALL THE DEMONS THAT AREN\'T IN THE ACTIVE PARTY ANYMORE manifest behind Nanashi, nearly three hundred in total)

Nanashi: Whoah, hey guys.

Thoth: Before ya go, we all wanted to just say... thank you. It\'s been a ride. Ya proved to us that humans ain\'t completely hopeless after all. I\'ve never been prouder to be invoked by anyone since the Pharaohs themselves!

Nanashi: Aww man, come on now...

Isis: We can\'t help you fight, sadly; since you fused us off we\'re just data in your phone now. But we just want you to know we\'re always there with you.

Melchom: If you die here YHVH will probably observe us all out of existence. NPDRFQD, LLC can\'t afford to lose its CEO at a critical juncture like this. Are you kidding me; stocks would plummet!

Thoth: We demons thrive on human observation. You kept us alive, kid. We couldn\'t be prouder. Kick his ass for all of us down here!

Nanashi: My pleasure. And... can you do the same for me? Keep me alive, I mean? That thing about your original worshippers\' great-great-great-great grandchildren being dust now... that really stuck with me. I\'ll be dust too, one day, and so will your contract with me. If I really was one of your favorite summoners, just... tell people about me when that happens.

(The DEMONS are silent. Then, one by one, they raise a thumbs-up, starting with THOTH, then MELCHOM, ISIS and OSIRIS, BELIAL, NEBIROS, and ALICE, the RIDERS, and all the rest)

Enter the final door to be greeted by an all-encompassing blackness. A great golden head descends from above- we\'re face to face with the Creator. YHVH admonishes us for \"trampling his design\" as more golden heads appear infinitely into the distance. Flynn and Nanashi\'s friends fire back that they\'re ignoring his design to fight for humanity. Satan then chimes in, stating that he wants to test whether YHVH is truly worthy of His throne... and he splits into Walter and Jonathan (if you have Satan, this thankfully doesn\'t affect yours). Flynn and Isabel are overjoyed to see their old friends again, and just like the heroes in the Stephen fight, form a second party with them. The final battle begins!

FINAL BOSS: GODLY YHVH

Level 100. Resists everything

YHVH opens the fight with two Luster Candies to himself and spending one turn on \"Silence,\" which does nothing. Before we can fight back, the Samurai make a speech denouncing YHVH and his hypocrisy, denying his promises of salvation... and this actually hurts him! Dagda chimes in by saying that the only way we can beat him is by denying him as the one true god. He gives Nanashi a Luster Candy as the battle begins!

First we\'re going to want to Dekaja those buffs away, buff ourselves, and de-buff him, as he begins the battle resistant to everything. We then switch over to Flynn\'s team, who eat two Debilitates. Each of them has a specific function in this battle. Flynn is packing a special move called Godslayer\'s Sword, which, just like in the Stephen battle, weakens a random resistance every time it hits. It seems to be always accurate against YHVH, and always counts as a weakness. He also has Antichthon, Mediarahan, and Enduring Soul.

Jonathan has Merkabah\'s unique move Chariot, Zandyne, Judgment Light, Riot Gun and Dekaja. Walter has Debilitate, Myriad Arrows, Agidyne, Berserker God, Dekunda, Magaon, and Lucifer\'s Evil Gleam. Isabeau has all four -dynes, Mediarama, and Luster Candy.

YHVH fights very similarly to Stephen, and in fact all Stephen\'s moves are variants on YHVH\'s. Divine Wave is a tier four Phys move, and he also has Inferno, Hailstorm, Lightning, and Tornado of God, the Archangels\' piercing attacks. Lastly, there\'s Planned Chaos, which inflicts Bind, Panic and Charm, and Smile charge (which makes YHVH\'s sprite give a really creepy Smirk when he uses it).

Obviously we want to get those resistances down to weaknesses, so keep attacking with Godslayer\'s Sword. Krishna\'s Ragas and Cleo\'s Alluring Banter are very useful for dropping his own stats, as well.

Krishna: So we finally meet, Creator; tell me, are you a flute fan?

At certain junctures in this battle, Nanashi must call upon his friends to deny aspects of YHVH\'s hypocrisy. His preachings of benevolence, fairness, egalitarianism, purity, compassion... all these must be denied. At very low health he will cut the party\'s health to one and MP to a third, and inflict Mute on us. He bids that we join him. You can actually do this, and it gets you a unique bad ending. Obviously, we refuse, which maxes out the Assist Gauge. Eventually, once all his aspects are denied, he falls with a scream...

...and gets back up as a hideous black and purple abomination made of animal parts.

Mitra: Finally. We\'ve turned his own power back on him... now that humanity has denied him, he has been demonized as we were. This should me much ea-

YHVH lets out a terrifying roar, and proclaims that we are all going to be damned to Hell!

Odin: That\'s... impossible. HE GOT STRONGER!?

Krishna:\' Not... how that\'s supposed to work...

Yes, Demonized YHVH is for some reason even stronger than his regular self! His Divine Wave has been upped to the more powerful \"Crush,\" he\'s picked up Rampage, which delivers up to eight Phys hits (but like all such attacks, it\'s easy for it to miss or run into something that resists it), and worst of all, Infinite Power, buffing all his stats to the max and bestowing Smirk, and Endless Curse, dropping all our stats to the minimum with a chance of Mute. He has Black Hole to such up all our MP, and a wicked Almighty attack called Supernova that he just loves to combo with Infinite Power. Finally, he has two moves identical to Stephen\'s: Authoritative Stance removes three Press Turns, while Divine Harmony wipes out all buffs and Smirks.

Unfortunately his resistances have all been reset so we\'re going to need to bring them down with Godslaye\'rs sword again. As soon as h\'es weak to something, pile that on. Fittingly for a crazed demon-god, there\'s not much strategy involved in this fight, we just need to get him before he gets us. Infinite Power is likely the biggest challenge, as we need to remember both buffs and Smirks have to be removed, or else you eat a Supernova. Be sure to keep him de-buffed too, of course!

Once the last blow is dealt, YHVH tells us that there is no truth to our ideals. Dagda responds with perhaps the best line in the game: \"Your so-called true makes me nauseous.\" He and all our friends exhort us to lay the final blow.

Nasnashi: For my friends, my demons, my city, my world... for all the millions that died to your lies... it\'s only fitting that YOU DIE TOO!

(NANASHI impales YHVH on Ame-no-Murakumo!)

YHVH reacts to his defeat with typical This Cannot Be! villain bluster, but proclaims this is not the end - when humanity loses its way, it will wish it still had Him.

Mastema: Farewell, my sad, agonized master. I truly wish you could have seen Him when we were just starting out. He was a great and noble creature, once, before he was observed to the top of all gods... too much prosperity is never a good thing.

Nanashi: We should probably remember that when we rebuild Tokyo...

We\'re deposited on the other side of the Monolith... sadly, Walter and Jonathan are not with us. As parts of Satan, who was a part of YHVH, they died with them. But their voices ring out, content they at least get to die as themselves, and they hope we\'ll meet again when we all reincarnate. Walter even congratulates Navarre!

Stephen and the Goddess of Tokyo offer their congratulations as well. The Goddess returns to her adult state, as all of Tokyo have now been reunited. She reveals she and Stephen are servants of the Axiom, the ultimate force of reality and true supreme being, and that in times of great crisis, the Axiom bestows a Messiah upon the world. This time the crisis was so great, it sent two - Nanashi and Flynn.

Kazfiel: I never got be a Messiah...

Metatron: I WONDER WHAT THAT MAKES ME? HM. I HAVEN\'T \"WONDERED\" IN A VERY LONG TIME. PERHAPS I SHALL GET USED TO THIS...

With the battle won, perhaps for good, everyone states their plans for how they will assist Tokyo\'s reconstruction. Hallelujah and Gaston plan to guide the Ashura-kai and Samurai during the rebuilding process; Took plans to strike out on her own, away from the Ring of Gaea and every other faction. Asahi decides to take over the Kinshichu Hunter Association from her dad, and Navarre has made such peace with his demons that he begins to fade away! Not wanting to cross over, he decides he doesn\'t want to change at all. Oh Navarre.

Lastly, Nozomi, Dagda, and Danu are off to the Fairy Forest to rebuild it. But before they leave, Dagda gives Nanashi a parting gift... his humanity. He\'s no longer Dagda\'s Godslayer, and is free to choose whatever path he wants.

Nanashi: It\'s only been a few days and already I\'ve forgotten what this felt like! I\'m so... light, and warm!

Oh, and Asahi and Toki aren\'t over their crushes on him either.

Kama: Fufufufu... now the true war begins! We all must choose a side!

Dagda narrates the game\'s closing montage. He states that he\'s glad he ended up with Nanashi after all, even after being killed and remade. This Dagda doesn\'t disagree with his older self, but Nanasho showed him that his path was worth it in the end.

(HUMANS and DEMONS alike work to rebuild Tokyo)

(In the Shinjuku farm, STONKA, CATOBLEPAS, and other hardy livestock-like demons pull plought, supervised by AMATERASU and UKANO MITAMA)

(NANASHI\'S ORIGINAL PARTY take to the Bay in their speedboat)

(TOKI meditates atop a tall spire)

(MELCHOM and HALPHAS press the new economic and government workers of Tokyo to work harder)

(CHINESE and JAPANESE DEMONS work together to clean up Ikebukuro)

(The FIENDS stand alert at the gateway to the Yamato Reactor, which now bears a sign labeled \"ABSOLUTELY NO UNAUTHORIZED ENTRY)

(HIROSHI lays a bouquet at NOA\'s grave)

(HALLELUJAH directs the Ashura-kai, with CHIRONNUPU by his side)

(THOTH and DANTALIAN stand in front of a certain newly-renovated building in Mikado. On it is a banner reading \"ISSACHAR FISHER MEMORIAL BAKERY AND BOOKSTORE: GRAND RE-OPENING)

(TITAN, ADRAMELECH and QUETZALCOATL scrub tables in the Kinshicho bar, under the stern gaze of ASAHI)

(ANGEL, CHERUB, ANIEL, KAZFIEL and METARTRON meet up with NEBIROS, BELIAL, and ALICE. BELIAL is holding a sign that says \"EXISTENTIAL CRISIS COUNSELING\")

(NAPAEA offers FUJIWARA and SKINS a snack as they rest from a hard day of rebuilding)

(The FAIRIES frolic in the Fairy Forest Spring. KING FROST jumps in, splashing everyone else)

(TENKAI punches a hole in the side of the Dome, allowing survivors from the outside to enter Tokyo)

(KRISHNA, ODIN, MAITREYA, and INANNA depart through the hole to search for survivors from their own societies)

(Where the cocoon scaffold was, a statue of AKIRA now stands. MASTEMA smiles up at it)

(Where the statue of KING AQUILA once stood, there is now a statue of FLYNN and NANASHI. NANASHI\'S FRIENDS admire it, though GASTON seems unimpressed)

Dagda: Hm. Goodbye, kid.

(NANASHI, for the perhaps the first time since his death, gives a genuinely elated smile)

FIN.

My rationale for Demonized YHVH being stronger is this: when you fight Golden Head YHVH, he\'s holding back, believing that a lesser being like you couldn\'t possibly threaten him. He starts busting out more and more threatening moves once he realizes you\'re more dangerous than he thought, but once you push him hard enough that he goes full demon, that\'s when he decides to go all out, lashing out without restraint.
