Charity has bought a new house in Ponyville when Fluttershy walks by. Charity greets her, and is offended when she gets no response. Fluttershy starts to leave when Twilight says that Charity doesn't understand she has social problems. Fluttershy, however, rudely says she doesn't care if Charity understands her and rudely curses Twilight and Charity. Of all the Mane Six, she's probably the most flagrantly Out of Character.
Twilight apologizes on Fluttershy's behalf, saying that Fluttershy is often antisocial, and ponies like her refuse to conform to society. Charity hopes that Fluttershy will apologize, but says that "[[Loners Are Freaks ponies like her can be somewhat psychopathic," and have little empathy for others. Charity, however, has converted other ponies before, and steadfastly persisted until they changed their minds. Charity and Twilight get some lemonade and consider playing the board game with Pinkie Pie again.
Fluttershy heads home, ignoring the birds due to lack of interest in them(again, out of character for her). She goes to bed, but can't get to sleep, as her head is filled with self-doubt, even if God isn't sending her nightmares. She's almost tempted to smash her head on a brick wall, but has something else in mind... climbing K2, the most dangerous mountain in the world (I honestly wonder why she didn't choose Mount Everest, which is larger, even if there's supposedly some debate over how tall it is).
Fluttershy gets up at this exact moment and goes to tell Rainbow Dash and Applejack about her plans. The two of them say she can do what she wants as long as she leaves them alone and lets them get back to sleep (understandable, since it's the middle of the night). She sets out but is soon joined by Spike, who wants to make sure she doesn't do anything stupid; if climbing K2 by herself doesn't count, I don't know what, among the many things Fluttershy will do on her trip, would.
