MLLSD Chapter 13: A Day at the Movies With Miho

Yukari bashfully asks Miho to see a movie. Miho pleasantly accepts, saying that training is also on a break.

The scene cuts to the Akiyama barbershop, where Yukari tells her mother about her plans, and asks her to fix he hair. Yukari's father, as might be expected from his reaction to her having friends, freaks out to hear that she's in a relationship. Yoshiko, however, reassures him that it's just Miho, and he calms down. Oddly enough, she calls him "Dad"; I've heard of parents referring to themselves or the other parents the same way their children address them while talking to their children (the same way parents might say "your mother/father" in English), but Yoshiko's the first person I've seen to use that when addressing the other parent.

Yoshiko seats Yukari in the chair and asks her what she wants. Yukari says she wants to show a different side of herself, and while the request is vague, Yoshikko is eager to show her skill. Yoshiko remarks on how she encountered "a stubborn spot," but dismisses it when Yukari asks about it.

Yukari, with a different hairstyle and a tuxedo that happened to be around the house (Jungorou lampshades how surprising this is), Yukari seems eager, but her hair poof out. Yoshiko, however, tells Yukari not to be discouraged, and goes about making her out to be a bride of some sort. As Jungorou screams that This Is Unforgivable! and Yukari claims that she and Miho are "only" at dating level, Yoshiko sheepishly admits that she got carried away. It takes a few more makeovers to get through, but Yoshiko gets the point and tells Yukari to go as she is.

Yukari has her typical hairstyle and an outfit slightly similar to her casual outfit in Episode 7 when she meets with Miho, who's dressed similarly. Miho apologizes for coming early, but says that they got everyone else together. It turns out that she brought the rest of Anglerfish Team as well. Yukari's momentarily disappointed that it's not just with Miho, but has a good time in spite of that.

This is a good chapter, as it shows the quirkier side of Yoshiko, who most assume would be the more down-to-earth half of Yukari's parents. It's also nice to see some Miho/Yukari moments; I have to wonder whether, if that pairing had a bit more Ship Tease in the series, there would a bit more Miho/Yukari fan works instead of the predominant shipping Miho with OCs on Fanfiction Dot Net.

Next Installment: Katyusha and Nonna imagine what it will be like if Katyusha starts growing. No, really, that's it.
