After gaining our newest party member, the next event I’m watching is one in Miyashita Park, where Akira is approached by Yuzu while the others are off hanging around for a break. Her mood’s improved a bit since the last time we saw her, but she’s still saddened that we’re in so much danger and wonders if we would’ve run away had we known that becoming the overlord would result in everyone being out for our blood. Before we can tell her what the consequences of that decision would be, Atsuro comes back, saying that there’s another mob on their heels. Seeing Yuzu, he tells her to hurry and get out of here, so off she goes. The mob arrives, and the initial target of their fury is not Akira but rather Amane, being part of the group that started this whole mess. Kinda surprised to see that they actually have something of a head on their shoulders! Anyway, Kaido, clearly making a heroic effort to restrain himself, crudely explains to the mob that the only reason they’re alive is because Akira’s been holding the demons back, but since we can’t prove that for them, they won’t believe us. Naoya says that it’ll take time for them to fully come around so we just...walk away from them, apparently. Huh, not a very motivated mob.

What all this is leading up to is a subsequent scene in Shiba Park where the crew once again hears Metatron’s voice issuing down from Heaven. This time he addresses Akira directly and dispenses with pretense, telling him to give up his life unless he wants mankind to be purged. Atsuro says that that must be why their death clocks are at zero, but Kaido points out that it’s not just them, everyone has 0, leading Naoya to explain that Metatron must be planning to use God’s Thunder, the heavenly superweapon we saw being used on the lockdown in Honda’s abortive “ending” on Day 6. He says that Remiel is the angel in charge of it (another reading of Remiel’s name, Ramiel - yep, the same as the Evangelion Angel - means “Thunder of God”) and if they’re considering its use the angels must be getting really desperate to stop the overlord’s awakening. I dunno, if Metatron and most of the angels are so willing to smite all of mankind, I don’t see what’s stopping them from just doing it. I mean, there’s literally nothing we can do to stop them if they tried at this point.

The mob catches up to us at this point as Metatron says that this is our final chance to make a decision and the person who comes to our rescue is...Yuzu! She reveals to the stirred-up crowd that the angels have been pulling a Darth Vader and have been altering the deal on the lockdown against the government’s wishes since the very beginning, and has even brought Izuna with her to back her up. Izuna discloses the truth of her mission and the UEM field to the mob and the angels’ intent to kill everyone in the lockdown. In the face of this, the mob finally realizes that the crew aren’t their true enemy, and Amane says that her father’s wish of uniting the people has finally come true. She thanks Yuzu too, who still beats herself up for running away until Midori arrives to lift her spirits. She says that she’s been trying to convince people that the overlord isn’t bad either, and the Anti-Overlord Shomonkai show up to beg Amane for forgiveness to be brought back into the fold. The other members of the mob who’re demon tamers pledge their support too and, long story short, everyone starts rallying for us, overwhelming Atsuro at how the tables have turned.

Hearing and seeing all of this naturally does not please our big, shiny email buddy M, and he speaks up again, saying that we are all blaspheming against the Lord. By now the citizens of Tokyo are fed up with his crap and let him know so in no uncertain terms. Hearing this makes him literally sigh and sign off with the warning that we are slapping away His hand. Naoya says that this will be the final act, and that luckily for them angels can’t use their full power in the human world, so if we drive them off here and take the battle to the demon world or Heaven, then Earth will be at peace. Yuzu, Midori, and Izuna join the party in the late 60s, and we’re off once more for the final battle against the angels.

As you may imagine, that whole sequence doesn’t exist in the evil version of this day. It also seems that I was a little mistaken over what I said in the last update about everyone but Gin joining the party on the good version of the route, as Keisuke also neglects to join up. I thought I had just missed a certain scene to trigger his appearance, but I checked GameFAQs and nope, it looks like he doesn’t appear at all on Naoya’s 8th day, regardless of which version you take, which is pretty weird. You’d think he would have at least something to say.

All that’s left is the final battle, but that’s not until the end of the day and it’s only 3:00 right now. Until then we’ll be dealing with a sequence of events that’s optional but does tie up some loose ends. We can start by seeing the Gigolo again in Roppongi, where he wants Akira to come with him for some “business”. Faster than you can say “stranger danger!” Naoya jumps in to tell him to back off, leading the guy to make a crack at how we have an overprotective brother. He says that we should be more appreciative after all the advice he gave us, and it seems he was the one who tipped Naoya off about Aya. No surprise there that one of the main instigators of this whole thing was Loki trying to stir up shit. Naoya tells the Gigolo that he’ll kill him if he sees him again (“Ooooooh, scaaaary.”) and then says to Akira that we must be on our way, and that that man is just “a boor who enjoys toying with men and gods.”

Since we saw that scene, we can know see another back up in the Gigolo’s usual stomping grounds of Shinjuku. Oddly enough this one has a name, “Honda’s Invitation”, and as it states it involves Honda, full of smiles, asking us to come see someone. Surprise! It’s the Gigolo, who reveals his true form to the crew and challenges us to a battle for funsies I guess. Oh, and Honda’s on his side too, since though he hasn’t lost his mind like in Yuzu’s 8th day, he still wants a powerful demon to bring his son back to life. Well we could use a warm up for Metatron, soooo....

Well, yeah, they’re pretty much exactly the same as when fought on Yuzu’s route and 8th day (clones included), just with altered levels. When either Honda or Loki is defeated it’s revealed that, surprising no one who has even the slightest knowledge of Norse mythology, Loki never intended to help Honda, he tricked him. Imagine that! Honda’s teleported away from the field in an impotent rage by the treacherous god, but at least he doesn’t die this time. When he’s defeated Loki says he’ll be bummed to see God defeated since it means the war will come to an end but oh well, at least he’s seen how strong we are. He warps out, and humorously deposits Honda back on the field before he goes. The man just runs off cursing Loki’s name, like so many have no doubt done before.
Completing the mission earns us 3350 EXP and 3000 macca.
Afterward Naoya assures Atsuro that most demons aren’t as incorrigible as Loki and will fall in line behind the King of Bel, as well as dropping the interesting tidbit that the stronger the demon, the less interest it usually has in the human world. Mari expresses sympathy and pity for Honda, and of course, since he needs his jackass quota to fulfill, Naoya completely brushes him off. Well, as I said, at least Honda didn’t die this time.

Since this 8th day seems a lot shorter than the other two, there isn’t anything else left to do but kill time until the final battle. There’s an event at the Akasaka Tunnel where you can have Akira assure Izuna that after he defeats God he doesn’t plan on ruling the world or anything like that, and at the Diet Building we can see that Naoya’s in a very good mood. Why? Because his plan is going perfectly of course, and he explains that he basically just took the Founder’s and substituted Akira for Belberith because otherwise it would just be replacing one god with another. At 5:00 in Shinagawa Midori asks what kind of angel Metatron is, so Naoya explains what I wrote in his compendium entry earlier, that he was formerly a human named Enoch, a descendant of Adam, whom God took up into Heaven and made an angel, the idea of which amusingly annoys Kaido who claims that God’s playing favorites. Naoya says that as the Lesser Tetragrammaton Metatron is second in power only to God, but by that same token if they defeat him than only God Himself can stand in their way. Finally in Shiba Park Atsuro exclaims that he can see a host of angels being led by a gigantic one flying towards Ueno, so after a last rousing group pep talk we’re on our way for the day’s final showdown.

I just made it to this sequence myself.

Izuna is better here than in the entire rest of the game, and I felt some satisfaction upon hearing that the SDF had mutinied out of the government's control. That I did not expect.

Everyone uniting under your banner felt a bit rushed, even with all of the buildup. But it was otherwise a great scene.
