Day 2/part 3 of the Grizzly Peak experience. This'll be a short update though.

The ski slopes are open by the following morning and Geo's pumped to finally be able to get on the powder. A good night's sleep has done nothing to temper Luna's temper, so it looks like the boys are on their own for the day, until Bud admits that he arranged a get-together with Amy to teach them how to ski. That's nice of her.

So materializing the skis allows us to take the ski lift at Foodtopia up to the beginner section of the course, the bunny slopes. There she's about to start teaching the group how to ski when Bud, in a fit of bleeding-heart selflessness, calls the thing off so that Amy can practice on the tougher slopes for some upcoming qualifiers. She reluctantly consents, and Bud gets his mind off of things by challenging Zack and Geo to a race back down the bunny slopes to Foodtopia.

Once down there a blizzard suddenly whips up. It doesn't last very long at all, though Zack notes that the higher elevations are still getting hammered. Bud gets worried about Amy and takes the lifts back up the mountain, and right after he does that a PA comes on to announce that all lifts are being shut down while, surprise surprise, their weather control system has gone haywire. At least this example is less insane than the Environmental System and Sky Town.

So now Bud and Amy are trapped up on the mountain in the middle of a blizzard. Geo can't get up there thanks to the closed ski lifts, but the slopes are no problem for Megaman! Though once you get to the bunny slopes Geo will refuse to hike up the rest of the slopes due to the snow for some reason, forcing you to get on the wave road for this “dungeon.” The puzzle here? There's some kind of “EM crystal” on the wave road, a kind of vortex that Geo can access. Inside is a skiing minigame where you're going down a long ramp, dodging trees and viruses while skiing over SOS icons to rescue buried Hertzes. Trees do damage, viruses make you lose some of your collected Hertzes. For this crystal we need to rescue thirty of them. It gets a little trickier later on, but it's not a difficult puzzle by any stretch of the imagination.

There are only two areas for this dungeon, the second being the black diamond run where the ski lift's partially buried and Bud and Amy are found collapsed in the snow in front of the weather control station. There Yeti Blizzard drops down from above, claiming to be the abominable snowman but Geo and Omega aren't fooled and immediately realize that he's Rich. Being the Card-Carrying Villain that he is Yeti Blizzard brags that once people learn that the world-famous skier Amy Gelande was injured here the hotel will be his, tries to buy-off Geo, accuses him of not knowing the value of money when he refuses, and attacks.

Yeti Blizzard

HP: 700

Element: Aqua

Attacks:

  • Snowball Fall – Whenever Yeti Blizzard moves snowballs fall on random panels for 30 Aqua damage.
  • Snowball Rush – Yeti Blizzard smashes the ground causing a volley of snowballs to fall on the field, targeting Geo's position for 30 Aqua damage per hit.
  • Big Stamp – Yeti Blizzard tries to stomp Geo for 60 damage.
  • Avalanche – Yeti Blizzard starts beating his chest, causing a wave of snow to move down the entire field, dealing 30 Aqua damage.

Despite my poo-pooing of Rich in the last update Yeti Blizzard can actually be rather challenging. The way Snowball Fall works means that there will always be attacks on the field, so there's really no time to gather your bearings. He doesn't recoil when struck either, so multi-hitters like the Mad Vulcan series aren't as effective against him as on the previous two bosses. His attacks do happen to be telegraphed though and his attack pattern is very discernible, so it is possible to counter him when he crashes down. The only way to avoid getting hit by Avalanche aside from Invisible is to just hold down B to auto-fire the Mega Buster. The wave of snow has five components to it, so if for some reason you didn't equip the Star Hoop from earlier you may be in trouble.

Yeti Blizzard explodes, restoring the weather to normal and leaving Rich down on one knee in the snow. He appeals to Hyde for help be he, speaking from somewhere unseen, says that he'll abstain, not wanting to risk getting caught once the rescue workers arrive. So, Bud and Amy are saved, and Rich gets arrested by Copper.

The Grizzly Peak vacation closes out with Mr. Gelande thanking everyone for saving his daughter though Geo tells him to thank Bud instead since he actually went up to the mountain. Luna seems to have gotten over herself, saying that everything's okay if they were just helping Bud with his girl troubles. Whatev. Bud becomes Brothers with Amy and then tells Geo (presumably whispering so that the Gelandes can't hear) that he thinks it's cool that Geo's so down to earth when it comes to his heroic feats. Since he's helped him yet again, the scene closes out with the two reforming their own Brotherband.

Like Luna's, Bud's Brotherband bestows fifty Link Power points, bringing us up to a hundred so that I can unequip the HP + 50 for something more useful like Undershirt. Bud's secret happens to be...that sometimes he wets the bed. Thanks Bud.

Soundtrack
  • Snowstorm
    • It's actually snowing as I type this.

...Really did not need to know that, Bud.

The whole Luna getting mad at Geo for most of the scenario seemed unnecessary. My recollection of the game isn't clear, admittedly, but it seems like they could have cut it, and almost nothing would've changed.
