Figured it'd make sense to break the various conversations up into different posts.
Stopped by Kasumi's quarters before visiting Morinth, since they're on the same deck. Kasumi seems to suspect something's up, but she's not gonna say anything. I like Kasumi, btw. I am totally into Japanese girls with a penchant for kleptomania.
Right, so, into the lair of the Ardat-Yakshi. Morinth's just chillin' on the couch, which looks cooler than the constant meditating that Samara had been doing.
Talking to her about Samara, Morinth sounds bitter. Her mother did her duty with precision and care, she says, but no love.
Now, I'm going into these talks very much open to the possibility that Morinth is going to lie to me, but this part? It rings true, because Samara has been cold to everybody in this game.
Morinth goes on to say that Samara tried to teach her daughters about honoring the Goddess, being good asari, etc. If Morinth were going to just lie her ass off in a completely self-serving way, I'm inclined to believe that she would make things up and not say anything that might portray Samara in a positive light. But she's saying that Samara did try, but she just wasn't good at it. She was distant.
It seems plausible, at the very least.
Morinth says that Samara tried to teach them the value of self-denial. She says in that respect, she was a disappointment to her mother.
We see some of Morinth's self-centeredness in the next part, when Fem!Shep says that most people might take it hard when they disappoint their parents. Morinth responds by saying that Samara disappointed her too...and that her opinion is the one that matters.
She goes on to say that Samara was content to lead a life devoid of pleasure and then die. Morinth would rather grab all the pleasure she can, while she can, to paraphrase.
Talking about the risk of being discovered with her, Morinth says that she made sure EDI can't listen in (I'm curious how she was able to do that without even arousing suspicion from EDI), so there's no risk in talking here. Morinth says she wants to be herself with Shepard and...you know what? I believe her. She sounds a lot more sincere and a lot less evil than she did when she was trying to seduce me on Omega.
She's willing to take on the Collectors. Wouldn't mind "celebrating" with me afterwards. Yeah Morinth, you know, that's mighty tempting, but there's a small little problem of it KILLING ME DEAD.
Or maybe there's other stuff we can do. I don't know. Well, let's ask the lady "How are you?"
Hmm, THIS part, it's gonna get tricky separating truth from lies. I asked her if she gets lonely. Now, Morinth might be crying crocodile tears here, I'll acknowledge that possibility and maybe I'll find out if it's true later on, but what she is saying right now is that she does get lonely and that she can't experience love with another, at least not for long.
I can see how that would suck.
She tells me that her last victim, Nef, experienced ecstasy beyond imagining in her last moments. I dunno, Morinth. For one thing, how do you know? What Samara said about brain hemmorhages and such did not sound very fun. But hey, maybe Morinth believes that, or has convinced herself of it to rationalize what she does. Or maybe she's making shit up to try to get me in bed with her. No idea at this time.
She says that I'm unique, that I've lived through the impossible. If anybody could survive...but that now isn't the time.
Talking to her about being part of a team, telling her that the crew will look out for her if she looks out for them, she says that it's strange and new, but she'll do her best. She promises not to make trouble. Not wanting to lose my crew to death-sex any more than I want to lose them to a Collector attack, I tell her that she'd better keep that promise.
She says she won't jeopardize her place on my team by doing anything stupid. I'm like nobody she's ever encountered.
So then I leave, and she wishes I could stay longer.
I'm not sure what to think of her at this stage.
