Rand creates a portal to Caemlyn, landing in the same place he first met Elayne. But Rahvin knew he was coming, and an ambush of Trollocs overwhelms the Aiel. Ultimately it seems Mat, Asmodean, and Aviendha are all killed, while Rand makes another portal straight to the throne room.
Nynaeve is trying to teach Siuan how to use the dream world, but Moghedien finds them and she gets caught. But Birgitte comes and distracts Moghedien, and Nynaeve conjures an a’dam onto her. After hearing about the trap Rahvin prepared for Rand, Nynaeve takes Moghedien with her to Caemlyn.
I’m really floored by how much the book has ramped up in these last few chapters. If Jordan had been able to keep up this kind of engagement the whole way through, like in A Song Of Ice And Fire, it would be a lot easier to get through, while actually it’s really starting to feel like a chore most of the time now. Still, this right here is great stuff, and a quite unexpected way to merge the stories back together. Hopefully we’ll get the payoff in this book. Though I definitely don't buy that all those people are dead; he really overreached there.
