After the battle, Mat stares at the head of Couladin, who he’d managed to kill in a hard fight. Now the men he led consider him their true leader, and insist on making a banner for him. Rand wakes up to find that Moiraine healed him, using the last of her strength after tending to the other wounded, and Aviendha is upset at him taking such a risk. And now he has to deal again with Meilan and the other Tairen nobles he sent here for trying to kill him, plus the actual Cairheinen.
So…Jordan just skipped right over the climax of this storyline? There wasn’t something else he could have cut out to ease up on the book’s length a little? This is such a bizarre writing choice I really have no idea how to respond to it. Rand’s new problems are pretty good on their own, but now they’re tainted from following this.
