7/13 Monday 24 days until Full Moon

Minako overheard the gossipers talk about the finals and moan about their names being made public.

Well Mrs. Terauchi is excited for summer.

“Oh and there is this event that is popular around the summer...”

I know this but...might as well stay up.

“It's a girls chance to get closer to the boy she's interested in. It's called Kimodameshi! Two people go somewhere haunted at night to test their bravery. If it's a boy and a girl, well heheheheh.”

...you seem to imply they go to a private place to have sex. At least with that laugh.

Bookstore is closed today so might as well see Maiko.

“Aw, man. How the hell can a study at a time like this?” Junpei said to Minako. “This sucks. There's no way I can get a good score.”

...I guess that's the benefit of constantly studying during the year. Once again, need to tone that down over the summer.

“Hi!” Maiko greeted Minako. “Do you think Striped Shirt is okay? He said he can only come on Sundays, but I can't come on that day. I want to play with him, too...but, today I'll play with you!”

Well, I usually am busy on a Sunday as well but...we shall see. Minako played with Maiko, Take-Minakata bringing her closer to her.

“Did you know it was my birthday the other day?” Maiko asked after quite a few hours of playing. “At least my Mom and Dad didn't forget my birthday this year. They remembered!”

Huh...oh yeah. She did mention something about her birthday. Geez, it's been awhile.

“Of course, they would. They love you!”

“Of course. We haven't really eaten together as a family for a while. We used to eat dinner together every night.” She fell silent for awhile. “How come Mom and Dad don't get along anymore?”

I...can't answer.

“I know! I'll just ask them why they want a divorce. If I can get rid of the reason, everything'll be fine, right? I'm going to do whatever it takes to get my parents back together! You'll do what you can to help, right?”

Well...I can try. But, by the sound of things, I don't think it will be that easy.

“All right. I'm gonna ask them. So, maybe we can play again some other time.” Maiko waved goodbye and headed off and Minako headed back to the dorm, a fourth Hanged Man card appearing before her.

Well...this is just...awkward.

Everyone gathered around the kitchen table but no one was saying anything at all. “What's wrong, everyone? Are you guys hungry?” Akihiko asked.

“N-not really...” Yukari said.

Yeah...really awkward.

“Umm...Y-you know, it's almost summer break. Do you have any plans?” Fukka started, trying to lighten up the mood.

“Mmm. Not quite any I can think off. I'll probably just check on some people I know,” Minako answered.

“I wish I could go to the beach. Hot sand, cool breeze...babes in bikinis...” Junpei answered as well. “Man, it sure would be nice! Somewhere in the south, where the water is crystal clear! But first, we have exams to worry about. Ugh, what a drag.”

“Now, now. You'll be fine,” Fuuka reassured. “But yeah, I'd love to go somewhere famous for it's beautiful beaches, like Okinawa.”

“Well, it's not Okinawa but how about Yakushima?”

“Mr. Chairman...I didn't realize you were here.” Mitsuru said to Ikutsuki.

“I happened to be in the area, so I thought I'd drop by and tell you my schedule for next week,” he responded. “Mitsuru, your father will be vacationing in Yakushima during the break.”

“He will...?”

“You'll all have some time off after the exams right? Why don't you go pay him a surprise visit?”

“Seriously!? We're gonna go on a trip!?” Junpei exclaimed. “YES! Beach babes, here I come!”

“Ugh. Men.” Yukari said. Fuuka, chuckled at Junpei's happiness though.

Mitsuru was a bit at ease at going, not wanting to ruin her father's vacation, but Ikutsuki reassured her that no father would be so upset to see his daughter to come over and visit him. “You've all done a great job. You deserve to relax for awhile. We already know when the next operation will be, so it should be fine.”

“I don't know...”

Part of me wants to stay here and train during the break. But it's being loudly drowned out by the idea that I get to go to the beach.

“I'm in total support for a break. We could use a bit of relaxation before we head back into Tartarus. Besides, YAKUSHIMA!”

“...alright. I have to agree with you Amano. Let's do it.”

Everyone began planning for the beach trip already. Akihiko planning out his training, Fuuka mentioning purchasing a swimsuit with Junpei offering help.

“Are you going to swim too Ikutsuki-san?” Fuuka asked.

“I'm afraid I can't. I'll turn to dust if I'm exposed to sunlight.”

“Whoa, was that a joke?!” Junpei asked.

“Of course it was.”

Good thing I bought a swimsuit before I came here just in case. And...hmm? Where are Mitsuru and Yukari going?

Minako quietly slid around and found the two at the foot of the stairs. “Uh...sorry about the other day. I got a little carried away.” Yukari said to Mitsuru.

Well!

“Don't worry about it. In a way, it's only logical that we go to Yakushima. The Chairman said that no one who was responsible for the accident is alive but...in reality there is one witness who survived.”

“There is?”

“My father.”

Mitsuru walked up the stairs, leaving Yukari (and Minako) in a bit of shock.

“I'd never thought I'd be talking to you like this.” Akihiko said to Ikusuki. “You're always cracking jokes.”

“Hahaha. This is no time for humor but I'm happy to see everyone has a smile on their face.”

Heh. He's not that bad, Ikutsuki-san.

“I'm excited about Yakushima but that's another story,” Junpei said to Minako up on the second floor. He sighed. “I can't concentrate. My brain has already crossed the ocean into Yakushima...”

Ah yes. Finals. Eh, I'm ready. He...I bet will have a tough time.

“I apologized but...I'm not sure my point got across.” Yukari said to Minako across her door. “It seems like...there's this wall between us. Am I making any sense? Well, I'm going to go study now...”

And funny enough, you two are right across the hall from each other.

“I'm sure you have a lot on your mind, but concentrate on the exams in front of you.” Mitsuru advised from across her door.

Well, I guess she's fine.

I study today anyway. Some last minute cramming won't hurt.

7/14 Tuesday 23 days until Full Moon

Dowsing! This one is kinda obvious if you remember it. And I sure hope no one answers Role-Playing.

7/15 Wednesday 22 days until Full Moon

I double-checked this one. It's the Octopus that the Europeans think is a “devilfish.”

7/16 Thursday 21 days until Full Moon

Minamoto No Yoritomo. Which I simply remembered because of it's length.

7/17 Friday 20 days until Full Moon

I came, I learned, I kicked butt on the final. Heh. Comma splicing is easier when you think about it.

7/18 Saturday 19 days until Full Moon

Junpei met Minako at the gate, obviously uneased. “Thank god today's the last day of exams.”

I think it's obvious how you are doing.

“Yeah.”

“Dude, I can't wait to let off some steam. Don't you just love summer?”

“...yeah!”

Only two social links I can work on but if all else fails, there is some sort of part-time work at the theater I can do.

Well, I feel good. I recognize it all so I feel really good about this.

“I'm done, baby!” Junpei exclaimed as he finished. “The dark days of testing are finally over! The sun is shinin' bright!”

“So how'd you do?” Yukari asked.

“Hey, check it out! I aced PE!”

“Well, that pretty much answers the question.”

“Psh, a real man doesn't dwell on the past. I'm thinking ahead to Yakushima!”

“Oh yeah, that's coming up soon. Are ya ready?” Yukari asked Minako.

“No. I've been tired this week.”

“I see...I guess I should be more enthusiastic huh? Hey, I don't have practice today, so do you wanna do something? What do you say, Minako?”

“Fine by me.”

“Sounds good! Where we goin'?” Junpei asked. “If you need to buy a swimsuit, I'd be happy to help!”

“As if. Alright, gimme a sec. I'm gonna go grab my stuff from the locker room. Oh, I'll invite Fuuka too.”

As soon as Yukari left, Junpei pulled Minako aside. “Um, I'm sorry about the way I've been acting. I was just in a bad mood and I took it all out on you. I know it wasn't too cool of me.”

“Yeah. But' it's perfectly okay Junpei. We're friends. That happens on ocassion between friends. I forgive you.”

“Alright...thanks. Let's go back to how things used to be between us, okay? Alright, let's get going.”

“Whooohooo!” Junpei said. “Freedom at last! What should I do now!?”

“Don't worry, I'm sure you'll think of something,” Fuuka smiled and said to him.

“Hell yeah I will! Hey, what are you doing here Akihiko-san?”

“Ikutsuki-san called me. I think he wants to talk about another candidate.”

“Does that mean another person is going to join?” Yukari asked.

“Maybe...”

“Ooh! Is it going to be another girl!?” Junpei asked excitedly.

“How should I know?”

A voice called out for Fuuka. It turned out to be Natsuki, her former bully. Natsuki asked if Fuuka could stay but then noticed the group. “Oh, you're going back to your 'home' home today, huh? Okay, then never mind.”

“Hey, wait. It's alright. Let's go. Sorry, I'll see you all later back at the dorm.”

So...we are her home. That...makes me happy.

“I'm really surprised at how much she changed.” Junpei noted.

“Ah, friendship. How beautiful! Adolescense is such a wonderful thing! So full of vibrancy!”

“Mr. Chairman!” Yukari said surprised.

“Oh hello, I just stopped by to pick someone up. I might as well introduce you to him now.”

“Hello.”

Oh! That's Ken Amada! Haven't seen him for awhile. Wait...why does Akihiko look so alarmed?

“Oh, hi Ken-kun. What's up?” Yukari asked.

“You know him?” Akihiko asked her.

“He doesn't leave during the break because of his...circumstances.” Ikutsuki informed.

“Oh, I heard about that. Something about his parents.” Yukari mentioned.

“It was only me and my Mom, but she got in an accident and she...she died. It happened two years ago.”

Owww! He's...pretty well adjusted for someone who lost his Mom. Or so it seems.

“Right now, one of his distant relatives is paying for his school expenses but staying at the elemtary school dorm all by himself isn't proper for a child his age. So I decided to move him to your dorm for the summer.”

“To OUR dorm!? Do you really think that's a good idea!?” Yukari pointed out.

Really. I've overheard some speculation on what we do already from other students with our unique make up. How much more would that cause with a child being in the dorm?

“Why of course. He has the potential.”

...whoa.

“Then, he's the new candidate?” Akihiko asked.

“Yes but as you can see, he's still just an elementary school student. So it is merely a possibility for now.”

Um...you guys are talking about him as if he isn't there. How is he-

“Are you...Sanada-senpai?” Ken moved over to Akihiko.

“Um...yeah.”

“I've heard a lot about you. You haven't lost a boxing match yet. It's a real honor to meet you!”

...welp.

“Yeah, well...it's nice to meet you.” Akihiko said, somewhat uncomfortably.

“Finally, some time off.” Junpei said to Minako as they got back to the dorm. “Yakushima, here we come! I can't wait for Monday! And then, two days of school before summer break! Frickin' awesome!”

“Aren't you getting a little carried away?” Yukari pointed out. “I mean, the trip is only for a few days and we'll still have Shadows to fight over summer break. In other words, we can't afford to stop training in Tartarus.”

I think he keeps school seperate from Tartarus as, things that are a pain.

“I know, I know! But my energy level is so high during the summer, no one can stop me! Anyway, tomorrow, I'm gonna start packing so if we're going to go to Tartarus, then let's do it today.”

I want to be in tip top condition when I go. So no. No Tartarus until after the trip.

“Hello Ikutsuki.”

“Don't worry about the tickets to Yakushima. I've already taken care of them. Although I was a little disappointed at the price. It turns out that the fare for the ferry wasn't very fair. But when I said that to the lady selling the tickets, she just ignored me.”

-snrk-

“We should take this time to forget about all the bad things that have been happening, and just have some fun!” Junpei told Minako.

“You said it, bro.”

“Yeah! We're gonna have an awesome time!”

“Are you prepared to go to Yakushima?” Mitsuru asked Minako.

She would question my effort on the exams if I told her yes wouldn't she?

“Not really.”

“Well we are leaving the day after tomorrow, early in the morning. Take tomorrow to pack your things.”

“I almost forgot that we're all going to Yakushima together,” Fuuka said to Minako. “I'm getting so excited now!”

“Yeah! We'll have a good time there.”

“An emergency planning session was called today. It's dealing with the many cases of Apathy Syndrome over the last few months. Cultural anthropologist are investigating the causes, and...”

...we have to defeat those Shadows.

“Ken-kun seems very mature. I can't believe he's only in elementary school. I wish 'someone' would learn from his example. I wonder why he's like that?”

Ken? It may very well be the front he uses to deal with the tramua from the loss of his mother. Speculation of course.

“Ken's going to live here...with us.” Akihiko said looking pained.

...there is something here. Eventually, I'm going to have to find out what.

“Hey, how's it going?”

“...for the most part, Rockin'!”

“It's almost summer. I'm bummed out, 'cause I can't get into the groove.”

“I wouldn't mind going out with a guy who walks around topless. As long as he's tanned and toned, like a surfer! The guy I saw earlier...he was just freaky! Long, greasy hair, pale skin, no meat or muscle and parading around half-naked. He was soooo creepy and gross.”

...how come I never see the weirdos?

Sun. Sun. Sun. Sun. Woo O Ooo Ooooo.

Minako sang and sang every song she could think of about summer. And somehow, she felt Fearless after it!

7/19 Sunday 18 days until Full Moon

Huh. No calls. Kinda weird. Alright. Bunkichi and Mitsuko after I go for a round of shopping for towels. I forgot about those towels.

Maybe the shoppi- wait...that's the guy who scammed me! Well, it was willing but...

“I am your host, Tanaka, with a live presentation of my Amazing Commodities! We'll show you great items at unbeatable prices! Oooh, you won't be able to touch that dial!”

...I have a Shirt of Chivalry, and I don't believe I'll be using the Mega Protein. No thank you.

...what is this solar eclipse and why is Featherman R not on?!

Hmm. No one's around the dorm. Must be out shopping! Maybe I can find them.

“I saw a girl in a white frilly dress in front of the station. It was a beautiful dress, and it offset her stunning red hair so well. That gothic lolita style is hard to pull off, but she had it down perfectly.”

There's Fuuka and Yukari!

“Oh, hello Minako-chan! I came to look at bathing suits with Yukari-chan. I've never bought a bathing suit besides the school one but I don't think Yukari-chan is really up for this...”

“I came to pick out a new bathing suit, but there's nothing that interests me. Although, I don't think it's this shop's selection...it could just be that I'm not up for a new swimsuit at all.”

Yeah...Yukari's still seems hung up on something.

“'lo Junpei!”

“I came to pick some swimwear to bring to Yakushima, but I dunno which one to get. I asked Akihiko-san, but he doesn't give a rip about fashion. It's always best to ask girls about this stuff. So, just name it!”

I just pictured him in a fig leaf. Now nothing. Why!?

“B-boxers.”

“The basic style huh? I dunno, is that the style I should go for?”

“Hey, I saw that guy tossing the ball in the arcade again. I walked up to him so I could ask what the ball was, but he just glared at me over his sunglasses. Then he walked out of the arcade without another word. Man, he's scarier than I thought.”

“Alright. Towels, paperback and LOTS of suncreen. My pale skin can only take so much sun. To the bookstore!”

“So, I'm going to the beach tomorrow!” Minako informed the couple.

“Ah the beach. We had some wonderful times there ourself didn't we dear?” Bunkichi said. “You, the most beautiful woman above all in your cute little swimsuit. There must be a picture somewhere around here.”

Minako found Junpei, Fuuka and Yukari on the second floor. “No senpai as well?”

“No.” Fuuka informed.

“Dude, I'm so ready for this!” Junpei said enthusiasticly. “Look out, ladies, here I come!”

Fuuka sighed. “Is that all you think about Junpei-kun?”

“Oh I'm sure there are other thoughts.” Minako said.

“You sure know how to leave your troubles behind.” Yukari told him. “I wish I could forget my worries as easily as you do.”

“You gotta get the most outta life!” Junpei said to her.

“I know you're right, but still...it's kinda hard. Oh, and it's not that I don't like Yakushima. Usually, I love being out in the sun and swimming in the ocean. I'm just not really up for it this time.”

“Well, I guess I can empathize. Though, whenever I was taken to the ocean, I always found some measure of peace. The world was peaceful and calm, it seemed. I actually had this CD that had sound of the ocean on it to try to calm myself to sleep when I was younger. So...I've always liked it and I still can't help but be happy going to the beach again.”

Dear, Minako

I was a bit afraid of this. But somehow it seemed inevitable as well. It just seemed strange, that accident that your parents got into. Especially since it was actually a day after that explosion at the school. Something was wrong and I thought by looking after you and making sure you would be alright, that something would be set right. However, it seems like it's your turn to set things right.

And yes, I have heard of these Shadows. They were used in a few experiments alongside Personas. Personas are linked to Shadows and manipulating them, one could preform an experiment. It sounds like it was based off of the Nanjo Group's research. It was halted but a faction still wanted to control these Shadows. They fractured off and became the Kirijo Group. I'm guessing you know what happened at Port Island, otherwise, you wouldn't have contacted me. I only know of this because of my connection with the Nanjo Group and knowing it's leader personally. I'm not certain if I can get any sort of reasarch to you but...I think I would need permission.

And also, you know I am a Persona-user. I might as well tell you that there are also others out there who had Personas for a long time. While almost all have settled into normal lives, a lot of them would be more than willing to fight again if their power was needed. Unfortunately, thanks to circumstances, I don't believe I can be one of them. But, whoever is in charge of your group, you should inform them about us.

Now, come on. Can't we settle into a regular correspondence? Well, I'm pretty well respected at the news paper I'm at. Years of experence, I can get the big scoops to investigate. However, I'm trying to also point out that we need to adapt to an online audience. There is so much opportunity there and we are wasting it because we can't see out of the box. So I'm also trying to help develop that, keeping a few cues from some old friends of mine.

So, anything interesting over there?

Always think positive~

Maya.

7/18 Monday 17 days until Full Moon

“Awesome! There it is! Ya-ku-shi-maaa!” Junpei shouted at the top of his lungs as they approached the island.

“Wow. So many tropical plants. Heh, take a look at that one!” Fuuka said, trying to keep the spirit up. However, no one was talking at all and the only one overhyped with Junpei.

I'd join in but...how in the heck am I supposed to get Mitsuru alone?

Holy. I shouldn't be surprised but damn! This is spectacular! Minako, Yukari, Junpei and Fuuka were stunned at the mansion Mitsuru lead them inside. They were even impressed with the maids.

As they began to get into the house, an impressive looking gentleman walked in through the far door. “Was that...?” Fuuka started.

“...her father?” Yukari finished.

“Dude, talk about scary! He's not gonna make us walk the plank, is he?” Junpei asked.

“Don't be stupid.” Akihiko chided.

Misturu chuckled. “We won't be here long, but make yourself at home.”

“Sweet! This is gonna rock!” Junpei said. “Hey, wanna go to the beach? It's right there. Dude, this place rules! Come on, let's go!”

“What, already!?” Yukari said. “I mean, sure, but let me get changed first!”

“Then I'll see you there. I'm not gonna waste a single minute!”

Ahhh! Beach. I love the beach!

“Ahh, got my sandals on. Givin' my feet a chance to breathe. Yup! Summer's here!” Minako overheard Junpei from a bit off.

“Ugh, could he be any louder? But yikes, what's with Akihiko-senpai's swimsuit? I can feel my face getting red just looking at it.”

...don't stare at the bugle. Don't stare at the bulge.

“Yo, about time you guys got here.” Akihiko said to the two. “Hmm? Something wrong Yukari?”

“That's a pretty...small...swimsuit,” she responded.

“What, don't you know? Swimsuits like this reduce water resistance and-”

“Oh, that's okay. It doesn't need to be justified. Hey, Junpei what's the matter? You look even dumber than usual.”

“Maaaan, talk about a feast for the eyes, haha. Yuka-tan's wearing a more aggressive model than I imagined! Could her boldness come from the confidence that club training has toned her bod!?”

“What!?”

“And check out our leader! She's one cute mermaid herself! Those curves she usually keeps covered are lookin' good! I can't tear my eyes away!”

I have mixed feelings about this. Very mixed feelings. But a complement is a complement.

“Thanks!”

“Maaaan, the beach is so great. I love this place!”

Fuuka walked over asking if the umbrella is taken. “Oooh, and here we have the lovely Miss Yamagishi! ...Wow, Fuuka, I had no idea you were so...I mean, you should wear a swimsuit more often!” Fuuka gave a gasp of embarassment, causing Junpei to try to reassure her but his somewhat creepy laugh annoyed Yukari and even Minako a bit.

“And here's our final contestant!”

Everyone turned and stared at Mitsuru. “Hm? Is something wrong?”

“Wow...Mitsuru-senpai, you're beautiful.” Fuuka said.

“Yeah, your skin is flawless! Did you already put on sunscreen?” Yukari added.

“N-no not yet.”

...if I was a guy, I would be head over heels for Mitsuru right now. My oh my, she looks fantastic!

“Man this is great! I'm in heaven!” Junpei said. “How 'bout a swim!? Buh buh bump ba ba baa! Charge!”

“Whoa! I'm not letting you win that easily!” Akihiko said, running after Junpei.

Huh? I feel uneasy. Is someon-

“Ah! It's cold! Hahahaha!”

Hm. Guess it's nothing.

“Everyone seems to be having fun. That's a good thing I suppose.” Akihiko said. “Our operations during the Dark Hour put a lot of stress on us. You should relax a little, and rest up. Under that parasol is the optimal place.”

Yeah. Rest. But I'm going to talk to Mitsuru first.

“Isn't this place nice?” Mitsuru told Minako. “I remember coming here as a kid but I don't quite remember it looking like this.”

“Yeah. I always find the beach wonderful. Uh...I have something to tell you Mitsuru-senpai.”

“Oh?” She looked a little bit on edge.

“Oh, um, it's...nothing.”

“O-okay then.”

“Minako-chaan! Heelp! Junpei-kun is-eeek!” Fuuka pleaded for help.

“Heheheh! You like it? You like that huh? No one can resist spashing girls at the beach! Heheh, I'm gonna splash more water on youuu!” Junpei laughed happily.

“You-! H-hey, you're gonna pay for that! Take this!” Yukari said, splashing him back.

Okay. I'm going to take a nap under the umbrella. It's been awhile since I've had a good snooze.

Ow. Okay, a little bit of a sunburn on my back. I sure hope I can ask one of these maids for a good reme-

“Amano.”

“Gah! Oh Mitsuru.”

“Sorry to interrupt but...ah. I see. We can have one of the maids look at that later. Right now, I need you to go to the reception room.”

“Alright then.”

Business on vacation. Why am I not surprised this happened?

Takeharu Kirijo, Mitsuru's father, was waiting for the group. “I understand that Mitsuru gave you the short version. Well, it's true. We adults are to blame. If I could've atoned for it with my life, I would've done so. Now, I have no choice but to rely on you. What my father wanted to create with those monsters' power was a time manipulation device.”

“That's what he was trying to do?”

Oh...my mind just thought of all the horror stories that time travel can cause.

“Imagine if you could control the flow of time, eliminate unwanted events before they occur. Which such a device, you could shape the future to you liking.”

...and I just thought of the Kirijo's ruling the world. Gah. No one person should have that power.

“However, under my father's direction, the research began to stray from it's original goal. In his later years, my father only seemed to have nihilism in his heart. Now that I think about it, his madness may have resulted in his struggle to break free from that. It's only natural that you want to know the truth and it's my duty to tell you.”

A recording clicked on. “What's this?” Akihiko asked.

“This is the only existing footage of the accident, recorded by a scientist who was at the scene.”

The group could see a burning lab and some figure speaking a message. “I pray that this recording reaches safe hands.”

“That voice!” Yukari said.

“My employer has become obsessed with a loathsome idea. This experiment should have never even been conceieved. I'm afraid what I've done will result in an unprecedented disaster, but if I hadn't, the entire world may have paid the price. Please, listen carefully. The Shadows that have amassed here have been disperesed as a result of an explosion. To end this nightmare, you must eliminate all of them! I am to blame for this. I knew the risks, but I was blinded by the promise of success, and so I didn't raise any objections. It is all my fault.”

Hey wait that...

Yukari gave a gasp in shock but just as the man was visible, the video ended after an explosion.

“...Dad...” Yukari said, shocked.

“You mean...that was?” Fuuka asked in surprise

Oh.

“His name was Eiichiro Takeba.” Takeharu said. “He was the head reasearcher at the time, and a very talented man, but we are the ones responsible. We pushed him to continue the research. The Kirijo Group is to blame for his death.”

“I- I can't believe it.” Mitsuru said.

“So, that means...my dad caused it all?” Yukari asked. “The Dark Hour, Tartarus, the people who died in that incident. It was all his fault.”

No it wasn't! I'd more blame the Kirijo grandfather than-

“So that's why you were hiding this? Because you felt sorry for me? Is that it!?”

Mitsuru didn't even know!

“No, Takeba I-” Mitsuru started.

“I don't want your pity!” Yukari shouted at Mitsuru as she ran off.

“Takeba!”

“Um, shouldn't someone go after her?” Fuuka asked.

Mitsuru sighed. “Amano, please go after her.”

“I understand.”

I'm her closest friend in the group after all. Probably her closest friend at all.

“Thank you.”

Why am I not surprised. She's right where I would be as well.

“Minako, remember what I told you at the hospital? How my Dad died when I was little? You understand now, right? He died in that incident. Nobody knew the truth, so there were all sorts of rumors. Because he was in charge of the research team, people were really mean to me and my mom. We even had to move a few times.”

“That must have been tough.”

All of those trust issues...built up by being hated and her Mom abandoning her by going after men. We are different in this sense. Maya loved me. She had no one. And as such, she won't let herself be friends with anyone. Now, this doesn't excuse all of her vile towards Mitsuru but I can understand her.

“...yeah but all this time, I kept telling myself it wasn't his fault. I loved him a lot, and I believed he'd never do anything wrong. I received a letter back in the spring. It was from him, written ten years ago. It cracked me up cause even though it said 'to my family,' it was pretty much all about me. That only made me believe in him more.”

...I can partially now she why her Mom acted why she did then.

“When I found out I had a special power, I thought it was fate. I was scared, but I thought if I cooperated with the Kirijo Group, I might find out what really happened. That's why I agreed to fight using my Persona.”

Well. That's like me joining SEES in what seems to be the chance I find out anything about my parents.

“...but it turns out...all of that was for nothing.”

“That's not true!”

It may not be what you wanted to hear but you have your answer!

“Haha, you're just trying to make me feel better.”

I should let this all go out though.

“Why does reality have to be so harsh? I tried so hard to fight my fear, and this is what I get. Maybe I'm just jealous of Mitsuru-senpai. I mean, why my father and not hers?”

Yes. YES. You are realizing it!

“Haha...I'm a horrible person, aren't I?”

I can't help but think mean things towards you, even though I know you are not that bad and need a friend.

“That's how people are. We all have things we don't like about ourselves.'”

Yukari got mad at that. “Stop acting like you have all the answers!” She instantly regretted that though. “I'm sorry. My head's a mess. I'm so afraid. I don't know what to do anymore. I'm totally lost. Tell me, what should I do?”

“Believe in your dad.”

Even if your father is to blame for this incident, that's no reason to believe that it was because he wasn't a good person, like you seem to be thinking.

“You mean, keep believing? I'm sorry for acting like this. You've lost your parents, too.”

“Once again, it wasn't that bad because Ma-”

“But, I'm alright now. I'm used to dealing with stressful situations. Thanks.” Yukari smiled at Minako and then...

“Hey!” Junpei ran up to the girls, gasping for breath. “Seesh, what's taking so long? Everybody's...waiting. It's almost...the Dark Hour so you should get back.”

“I-I almost forgot! It doesn't matter where you are when the Dark Hour comes.”

“Sheesh, it's just common sense! Even I remembered.”

“You know, I've been thinking lately. Once you awaken to the power of Persona, you remember everything that happens during the Dark Hour. It's like trading away your innocence. In exchange for power, you can no longer look away from the things you don't want to see.”

Including your ownself.

“So...I guess I'm stuck with you guys, huh?”

“Yup. Now that that's settled, let's head back.”

Yukari and Junpei started back but...

Oh god. I'm being watched aren't I? Better get back as quick as I can.

7/21 Tuesday 16 days until Full Moon

Back. Painful. Whhhy!? I though this tree thing would be a better outing than going to the beach but maybe I should have stayed in bed.

“Ah, the air is so fresh,” Fuuka said. “I never thought a walk in the woods would be so enjoyable. You couldn't do this in Iwatodai.”

Yukari and Mitsuru however, were still uncomfortable.

Pain. Pain. Pain. Pain. Pain.

“Oh so listen to this. Junpei was acting like such a pervert the other day, and I didn't know how to react! It's probably a good thing we came out here by ourselves.”

“Huh? Oh...yeah.”

Geez Yukari must be in a funk to not take an opport- ow!

Mitsuru then received a call on her cell-phone and quickly switched it to speakerphone. Ikutsuki informed the girls that a machine that was inoperable left on it's own.

“What kind of machine is it? I need detailed information to locate anything other than Shadows,” Fuuka quickly informed.

“It's a combat vehicle-an anti-shadow weapon to be precise.”

“A combat vehicle? You mean like a tank?” Yukari asked. “We gotta let the others know! Where's my cell...?”

“We're not currently with the others, so it might take some time for us to assemble.” Mitsuru informed.

“Well, regardless, I want you to handle this as soon as possible. I'm on my way now.” Ikutsuki said.

“If the target cannot be captured, do we have permission to destroy it?”

“Hah, I highly doubt you'll be able to destroy it.”

“What? Then how are we supposed to stop it?” Fuuka asked.

“Just do your best. I'll call you again later.” Ikutsuki hung up. Yukari informed that she couldn't contact Akihiko or Junpei. Mitsuru ordered the group back to gather their equipment and to have Fuuka scan the island.

Huh? I thought I saw a blue butterfly and then...why am I at this tree again? Oh great. I lost the group. Okay there seems to be this path here. I can follow it back and...whoa. I'm being watched intesily. Not good.

Minako spotted a mysterious girl a bit off. “Um...may I help you?”

“Now I am certain I have found you.”

What? But before Minako could think about it, she found herself in pain as the girl hugged her tightly. “Ow! Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Pain! Pain!”

“I have been searching for you. My highest priority is to be with you!”

She, ow! Doesn't, Ow! Want to, Ow! Get off! OW!

“There she is...wait what?! What's going on here!?” Junpei said, shocked see the girl embrace Minako.

“I see, so that's her preference. That explains why we got the cold shoulder.” Akihiko said.

“Could you please get her off of me?” Minako asked.

The girls dropped in, “There you are, Minako,” Yukari said relieved. “Huh!? Junpei!? What are you doing here!? We've been looking everywhere for you!”

“Um, what are you doing in the middle of the woods, in your swimsuits.”

“Not. The most. Pressing. Matter!” Minako said to the girls.

“Huh!?” Yukari now noticed Minako. “Why is she hugging you?”

“She says I'm her priority. I have no idea why. Can you get her away? I have a sunburn!”

Mitsuru ignored Minako. “Listen, we've encountered a problem. I'm sorry to interrupt your vacation, but you all need to go back to the house and prepare for battle.”

Ikutsuki then arrived. “That won't be necessary. We've found what we're looking for.”

“What do you mean?”

“Ugh. You had me worried. You don't have permission to leave the lab on your own, Aigis.”

“I know.” The mysterious girl responded still hugging Minako tight.

“Okay. You can quit hugging me now.”

Ugh. At least that lotion is helping.

“I apologize for all of that trouble. Everything is okay now.” Ikutsuki said.

“So what happened to capturing the tank?” Fuuka asked.

“Oh, that's been taken care of. Come here, Aigis.”

“Coming.”

“This is Aigis. As you can see, she's a 'mechanical maiden.'”

“I am Aigis. My mission is to destroy Shadows.” Aigis introduced herself. “I have been assigned to SEES, effective immediately.”

“No way. It's like she...alive.” Yukari said stunned.

“This is unbelievable.” Akihiko said.

“She's so cute but, she a robot.” Junpei said.

Oh Junpei. Never change.

“Anti-Shadow weapons were created ten years ago to combat uncontrollable Shadows.” Ikutsuki explained. “Aigis was the last to be made and she's the only one that still remains today.”

“An anti-shadow weapon...does that mean she-?” Mitsuru started asking.

“Yes, I am capable of operating the Persona 'Palladion.'” Aigis responded.

“She's suffered major damage in combat and has remained in the lab ever since. It's still unclear as to why she suddenly activated herself this morning. Well, I hope you will all get along.”

“An anti-shadow with a will of her own. This is amazing!” Fuuka geeked out.

“Um...by the way,” Yukari asked Aigis. “When I saw you earlier, it seemed like you knew her.”

“Yes it is very important for me to be by her side.”

“Hmm...perhaps her identification system is malfunctioning,” Ikutsuki said. Or maybe she's still half-asleep. This could be interesting. Hmm...”

“I don't think it's that,” Yukari said.

...That strikes me as odd. I don't know why but odd. But, I'll let the slow-death-by-touching-me-slide.

“Well, I can ponder this later. Oh, I forgot to tell you all. You can participate in a wide range of recreational activites here. There's a tennis court, a pool table, even a karaoke machine. Would you care to hear me sing?”

Oh god! I must save everyone!

7/22 Wednesday New Moon

“Man, it's already the third day of our trip.” Junpei said. “It's too bad we have to go home tomorrow. I'd totally stay longer if I could but I can't complain. A lot of coll things happened while we were here.”

“How can he be so full of energy?” Akihiko muttered. “We were all up so late last night.”

We stayed up long through the Dark Hour, that IS something. And he's right. I'm tired. Minako needs her sleeps.

“Do we have a mission at the beach today?” Aigis asked.

“Nah, it's nothing like that. We just came here to have some fun,” Junpei explained.

“Do you understand what it means to 'have fun,' Aigis?” Fuuka asked.

“Of course. Recreation is the refreshment of one's mind and body.”

“Exactly! Wow, you sure know a lot about us humans. Alright, let's take one last dip before we leave!” Junpei grabbed Aigis and took her to the water.

“Uh, hold on, Junpei-kun. Is it okay for Aigis to go in the ocean?” Fuuka asked.

“Oh, I'm sure she's water-proof.” Yukari said in a tone that sounded like she wouldn't be too upset if she wasn't. Aigis returned back though getting Fuuka and Yukari to join in.

“An activity in which only one person derives enjoyment is not the optimal method to 'have fun.'”

Despite Yukari's misgivings, she began to have fun with Aigis. Fuuka and Mitsuru joined in.

Ikutsuki met up with the group noting that they can relax now. Junpei called Akihiko over to play with them. Ikutsuki went over the time the ship was leaving tomorrow and then...

“Mina-tan! Akihiko-senpai!”

“This again? I guess we should go too, Minako.”

“Aigis, wait! That's not what water gun means! Aaaack!” Junpei shouted.

“Junpei-kun is down!”

“Alright, here's our chance for an all-out-attack!”

This is for embarrassing Fuuka!

“ATTACK!”

“Whoa, whoa, time out! I seriously can't take much more of this! Gyaaaah!” Junpei said.

The entire team had an excellent time playing around in the ocean today. Minako spotted another Fool card in the midst of swimming alongside Aigis.

7/23 Thursday 14 days until Full Moon

Junpei sighed. “Man, I'm beat. It seemed to take forever to get back.”

“Yeah it was a tiring trip.” Fuuka said. “Please rest up so you are ready for the next operation.”

“Yeah, yeah. I don't have any plans during summer break so I can fight Shadows all you want.”

“Wow, you must be really bored.” Yukari said.

“Sh-shut up, Yuka-tan.”

“Whatever. We just have to defeat the last six and it will be over. The Lost will get better and everything will be back to normal, right? That's why we have to try our hardest.”

Good job, Yukari. Nice one, bouncing back.

“Hello, Ikutsuki.”

“Hm, is there something you want to know about Aigis?”

“Where are the others?”

“I assume you are refering to the other anti-shadow weapons. Well, there were many created. You can say they were Aigis' sisters. However, they were all destroyed ten years ago in the incident. Aigis has been quite lonely ever since then.”

“Why is she in human form?”

“Personas are created from human minds. So the plane was to place a human mind inside an anti-shadow weapon. The only real issue was what form the weapon would take. If the form of a weapon was a tank, for instance, the weapon would identify itself as a tank. However, a tank is not a living entity. This is cruical you see, because the mind of the non-living enitity would not be able to process human thoughts correctly, so it would not function properly, and it will soon become corrupted. However, a mind placed inside a form that resembles a human body will recognize itself as a human being thus allowing it to easily adapt to human thoughts. Aigis and her sisters were built in the form of human beings.”

“How come she knows me?”

“I do not know. Perhaps it is simply a glitch in her human recognition programming. Regardless, it's nothing to concern yourself with.”

I worry about everything that concerns me that's not normal. And this is abnormal, even for a humanoid robot.

“These are your lodging quarters? Very well, I shall be by your side at all times.”

...great.

“Hm, an anti-shadow weapon...that will be a most welcome addition.” Mitsuru noted. “Most souvenirs are worthless. Snow globes, key chains, postcards...however this is one souvenir from Yakushima that is tres bien.”

Lousy seniors with their lousy French. Minako chuckled.

“A lot of people are joining the team now.” Akihiko told Minako. “It's so much different than before.”

Right. You and Mitsuru in middle school and someone else. That's years of being alone fighting shadows. I'm betting that'll be different.

“Do you think anyone would be able to tell that she's a robot?” Yukari asked Minako. “I don't. I mean, you really have to be looking for a robot to figure it out. As long as she acts normal, no one will suspect a thing.”

It's the acting normal thing that's worrying.

“She's cute, huh?” Junpei asked Minako. “Super cute. I don't think I've ever met a machine that was so cute before.”

“'dawww. Does Junpei love the mechanical maiden? A heart of steel, waiting to be taught to be human by a kind heart?”

“Ugh. Shut up Mina-tan!”

“Not gonna work~ Expect for the fact that I'm going out for coffee.”

Coffee. Alone. Except for the stares which are really beginning to annoy me now.

I see a "Fukka" there.

..Interesting thing with that Maya letter. Just what are you planning?

Also, fanon backstory expansion! I approve!

Bleh.

Sunday correspondence with Maya. Isn't that simple enough? (Also, my headcanon is that Maya was involved in the events of The Answer)

Thanks. I was always just a bit nervous about making Maya the Parental Subsitute for Minako. But I always liked keeping a tie between old-school Persona and new-school Persona, even if I'm a bigger fan of new school.

Now I'm just eagerly waiting for Vincent to pop up.

Always fun to see little extras- It's what makes this sort of thing more than just a rehash.

I'm a bit curious about how you'll handle Aigis, to be honest...
