Oh joy, those people Perrin found in the last chapter are Tinkers. And the very group led by Raen, which gets me thinking what a nice out Jordan gave himself to justify this kind of Contrived Coincidence. On the plus side, this means he gets to wipe the smile off Aram’s face by telling him what Egwene has been up to. And we learn Zarine’s backstory, that her father is a high-ranking noble and she ran away from her dull life.
As if the Tinkers themselves took up all the annoyance factor (and they are as bad as ever) Zarine is actually quite likable here, both in her not letting Perrin wallow in self-pity and sharing the truth about herself. It’s not enough for me to start calling her Faile, but it’s a good start.
