The party is crashed by Lord Luc, a Hunter of the Horn who’s another Small Name, Big Ego. He’s also oddly scared of Perrin, who quickly shuts down the others’ hero worship of Luc by pointing out how bad his advice is. He suggests they get everyone to band together in one place, while he leads an increasingly large group to rescue the prisoners.
The escape mostly goes well, but an alarm is raised when they’re almost out, and the women and several men are sent to a safe place while Perrin leads the rest in a distraction. Once they all get away, he declares the Trollocs are next.
Awesome stuff all the way through here, with Perrin becoming a natural leader without even realizing it. His development is completely believable with all he’s gone through, and the whole escape sequence is very well done. You don’t really doubt he’ll succeed, but there are just enough close calls to make it interesting.
