The characters in this story sure like to ogle each other. First this mare is gushing about how hawt Calamity (who will from this point on be referred to as Hat Accent) is, and Our Hero mentions that she herself doesn't think much of that, but thinks that Candi (Candy Candi!) is certainly attractive.
She also repeats "He shot at me" a bit towards the beginning. Like she's surprised or something.
Anyway, Our Hero meets up with Hat Accent and everything's more or less hunky-dory, it was all a big misunderstanding, and he shows her around New Appleloosa. There we're shown machinery and treated to exposition on how unicorn magic works, presumably for the Fallout fans who are reading this but know nothing about the show. Hm. I wonder if that exists.
Anyway, soon we're introduced to that zombie-pony that Our Hero saved in chapter 3! It's Ditzy Doo!
...
Yeah, I'm just gonna call her "Derpy." Story has so many memes in it as it is anyway.
Anyway, she's a ghoul, and we're treated to an explanation about what ghouls are, which is fortunate for me because I haven't played the games. In any case, she runs a shop that sells just about everything and is also the author of The Wasteland Survival Guide, which wins Our Hero's respect and admiration.
So, Our Hero and Hat Accent are given a task - go into a nearby stable and rid it of some pests.
As can be expected, everyone in there is dead. This is also where I started noticing typos crop up. The two go through investigating, and Our Hero notices this stable's particular gimmick - gender roles are reversed, and she gets momentarily outraged at the thought of an Overstallion rather than an Overmare.
Our Hero is a sexist. Fucking lovely.
The narration also takes time to point out how Our Hero feels a pang of outrage at Hat Accent looting the place. Despite having spent most of the last chapter doing the exact same fucking thing, and is going to continue doing the exact same fucking thing next chapter. I can get the whole "she feels a connection with the stable" thing (well, a little. She certainly doesn't seem too attached to it when she complains about the gender roles), but it just makes me feel like the protagonist is a massive hypocrite, something I find becomes a bit of a running thing.
Anyway, they find out how everyone died - a disaster with cat/snake chimaera things. Okay. I'm not even gonna bother with that. Anyway, they put eggs in you until they burst out. So there's a bit of an action scene, and then something hilarious happens: there's a time skip in the action scene. It's like the story agrees with me about how boring its action scenes are, so it's trying to get them out of the way. And Our Hero narrates how it seems that Hat Accent is specifically trying to make it up to her for shooting at her last chapter.
Anyway, Hat Accent gets stung by the things, which means he's going to become Mr. Mommy to a bunch of the little abominations. Our Hero has to rush him to a safe room and administer and antidote. They find the Overstallion's office and find a log thing and escape. Through the ordeal they have formed a bond of friendship, so that whole "sorry I shot you" thing is now over. They consolidate their newfound friendship over some Sparkle~Cola (I am never going to get over the tilde there) and decide to listen to the log.
