Season 1: Episodes 5 - 8

Episode 5 - The King of Omashu

The Earthbenders have quite an impressive thin going on there with their delivery system.. and of course Aang has to ride it

Either the king here is Aang's childhood friend... or Omashu has its fair share of crazies

Is that a goat rabbit? Awesome! Its so cute and scary looking and it likes belly rubs!

Creepy old Earthbender guy has some pretty impressive moves.

So it was his friend... so why did he do the whole evil three challenges thing? He just likes messing with people? It was supposed to be some sort of lesson? Meh...

Episode 6 - Imprisoned

Fire Nation extortionists... gee is anyone in the Fire Nation nice?

Wow... ungrateful old man he saved your life! Stick him back in that mine and collapse it on his head!

Aang has a strange idea of Fun...

Another jerk Firebender.

So if you cant control them you stick them someplace where they cant use their abilities. Makes sense I guess.

Rousing speech but those people look half starved and broken... I don't think you'll get very far.

I'm aware that there is Metalbending as a form of Earthbending at some point... I guess these guys haven't figured it out yet?

Wait... coal is flammable... aren't you going to run out of ammunition awfully quick?

I half expected Katara to do some sort of waterbending since... well all that water... I know she's not trained but she's done it before when she's been mad.

Episode 7 - Winter Solstice Part 1: The Spirit World

Appa looks so weird... even weirder than he can fly.

Why do I get this feeling that Momo is more than just a cute sidekick animal?

Chocobos?

You cant Airbend in the spirit world... maybe because there's no air?

Roku got to ride on a Dragon, no offense Appa but he's cooler looking than you

Zuko arrives just in time, I wonder if earthbenders go barefoot so they have closer contact with their element?

Wait... the spirit didn't know that Acorns turn into Oak trees? Some forest spirit you are!

Episode 8 - Winter Solstice Part 2: Avatar Roku

I'm sure you would get a lot more information if you were nicer Zuko.

So... how are those fireballs supposed to hit Appa? Just go up higher those things can only shoot so high... and if you're above the cloud cover can they really target you?

Any chance those fireballs were the "Comet" you saw in the vision Aang?

Even the Sages of the Fire nation are jerks... well except for this guy..

Close call for Aang getting inside.. so the comet makes firebending stronger? I wonder if there are any other celestial things that make bending stronger. Like does the moon affect waterbending like it does the tides?

Now its a jerk convention... Zuko, corrupted sages, and Zhao!

No small task set forth for Aang, he has to learn in a few months what would normally take years? A lot to hang on the shoulders of a child.

And thats it for today... I need a shower and a change of scenery!

"So if you cant control them you stick them someplace where they cant use their abilities. Makes sense I guess."

Unless you're M. Night Shyamalan, in which case just sticking them in a quarry will work fine.

Of course, someone made of rock, ice, and gas helps...fire.

Well, it's possible the Sozin's "Comet" was really an event called an Earth-Grazing-Fireball, and they just lumped it under 'comet" due to not haing as fine a distinction.

Anyway turtle, yeah Bumi was trying to teach Aang to 'think outside the box" pretty much

no he's just the cute side-kick animal, Appa is more then just a air taxi though...unless you Shyamalan

yup, they do go barefoot just for that

you can't do ANY bending in the spirit world

Eh he knew he just didn't stop and think about the new growth being fertilized by the fire

Wow..got it in one on the moon, Full Moon = most powerful time for waterbending. And the Sun empowers firebending so they are more powerful in the day, less so at night.

Actually seeing as how we SEE it enter the atmosphere it is the very definition of an EGF, they just had no word except "comet for it.

(Damn you no letting me edit posts.)

I genuinely liked the Second part of the Winter Solstice episode. It got a lot more serious at that point and gave definitive direction to the story. If future episodes carry on with that type of tone Ill probably enjoy them more.

The only reason I thought Momo was more significant was that he kept appearing every time Aang was wondering how he could talk to Roku.

huh....didn't think of that, but yeah it gets MUCH more serious, big build up for season 1 finale, seson 2 starts a bit more like season 1 did, but quickly becomes EPIC

ugh, your coming up to "the Great Divide" aren't you...ugh, worst episode of the series hands down...when you get a canon Discontinuity Nod with in the show itself, you know you were a bad episode.

Yeah, it becomes clear why the comet powers firebending, but until that happened it was quite the question mark among fans, given how comets typically contain every element except fire.
