Season 1: Episodes 1 - 4

Episode 1 - The Boy in the Iceburg

If Airbending involves flying... count me in.

Of course the Prince of the Fire Nation would be a hothead.. (har har har). Is it just random chance or Fate that Zuko happened to be there right when Aang was freed?

Weirdest looking penguins I've ever seen... and really... you can sled on them... wheres PETA when you need them?

The ship may be booby trapped... lets check it out... and possibly doom an entire village...

Time for a Highball before I start the next episode.... Bulliet bourbon and sprite... mmmmm

Episode 2 - The Avatar Returns

Yes... hide in the tent.. that's going to save you from the giant ship plowing through your village...

Zuko shows considerable constraint with Sokka... who seems to be rather suicidal with his attacks.

Where are they finding the wood for their fires? They should be burning dung... like most people living in an ice filled environment.

I like Zuko's uncle... does he have a name? Iroh? I'm kinda picking through the Wikipedia article to name these guys. He's rather laid back for someone whose element is fire

The combo Attack Zuko and his uncle did was pretty cool... too bad Aang just sorta.. flicked it away lol

Aang has this fetish for riding on things doesn't he?

Episode 3 - The Southern Air Temple

Aww the little bison are cute, a shame they are all extinct :(

Commander Zhao is a jerk... especially if Zuko is a prince. Im guessing that Zuko was defeated in some way and sent away from home in disgrace, finding the Avatar is his way back in with his father?

Aang is a little scary when he goes Berzerk....

Oh Zuko.. you should probably know better than to make the first move.. but at least you have honor.

Episode 4 - The Warriors of Kyoshi

Sokka you are such a sexist ... lol

Aww... Aang has a crush on Katara... I should have picked up on that sooner.

WTF was up with that person foaming at the mouth and fainting at the marble trick.... lol

Sokka did you actually learn a lesson here? Apologizing to the girls?

Geez its like Katara and Aang are already married... lol

Unagi is delicious... you should try it sometime... they put this great sweet sauce on it and sesame seeds

And another village endangered because of Aang.. but at least he realizes it and feels sorry about it.

And that's it for tonight... I need sleep if I'm going to get up and watch more tomorrow

Side Notes

Im just using this to jot down whatever comes to mind as I watch... Please don't expect anything too terribly deep and meaningful... lol

I'm watching this on Netflix.. and their encoding is terrible... there are tons of artifacts that is making watching it a bit rough. I'm sure that it looks better in its original format, but I don't feel like digging around to find HD downloads so I'm gonna tough it out!

By the way, there's currently a sequel series airing called The Legend of Korra, which is just as good and may even become better if it continues the way it's going.

Just about anyone will tell you season one is the show's weakest period, as the producers clearly lacked the clout to make the show they really wanted, and had to concede to Nickelodeon's requests to make it more for kids with stuff like Zuko's helmet landing on his butt in the pilot. This gets better as it goes along; there's still plenty of comedy, but it's largely character-based and naturally integrated.

Yea I'm definitely disappointed by the general lack of seriousness so far. A bit too much on the pratfalls and such, but I'm going to stick with it because everyone has told me it gets better.

I may extend this to cover Korra if I still like ATLA when Im finished watching it.

Midway through the first season when you really start to hit meaty Myth Arc stuff is where it really starts to go from "fun" to "something really special", IMO. You're not that far off, actually!

And of course, now we have the Shyamalan film to show us how bad it's possible to make this story.

It gets better later one, Season 1 is much more episodic and comedic, season 2 starts the heavy drama.
