In which Atlus gets self-referential

Okay, quick break taken to talk with the girlfriend before her class, so now it's back to murder time! After taking some time to give Yukari and Junpei some better equipment, as well as switching over to a short sword for Minato I'd say it's time to get going!

Already it's odd using a different weapon in the main dungeon screen, since it has a shorter reach and different animation when smacking Shadows. Going to take a bit of getting used to, but it means that Junpei can smack things about a lot better, so that's helpful! We also very quickly get a level up, travelling to level 6 with ease. Switching to Apsaras also proves handy in this case, since a lot of Merciless Mayas are on the prowl, making for nice easy kills. Of course, this hubris gets the better of me when I find myself unable to prevent an enemy advantage, and so get smacked around by some Magic Hands and Mayas. Thankfully, I'm able to take them out quickly, giving Junpei a level up in the process. Woo! I haven't been saying, but I have been going through just about every Shadow on each floor I come across, so no need to worry about that. Anyway, Yukari gets another level up on the 7th floor, which is always fun. I also seem to be getting the hang of the combat and dungeon crawling, which is nice. Other than the wheel menu, which I don't like so much. Ah well, it's a minor thing compared to everything else, really. With the final battle on the seventh floor we gain a new Persona, Angel! Good thing too, since I managed to miss getting it earlier in this run.

Unfortunately, Junpei proves too fatigued to continue, so I guess that's our dungeon run wrapped up for the time being. Just as I was having fun, too... Ah well, it was a good run, all in all. Of course, our attempts to escape are hampered by two things; respawning Shadows and my terrible sense of direction. Thankfully we find an access point on the 8th floor, so we manage to escape for the time being. Still, that was a fairly good adventure and we managed to gain a level, not to mention a new Persona. All in all an alright run. I see what kind of stuff I can fuse with Angel, but ultimately there isn't a whole lot I'd find worth the fusing. Maybe once the Compendium opens up I'll be a little more inclined to suffer Igor's promises of molestation during every fusion. For now, let's head back to the dorm and try to wash the scent of horror and shame off ourselves.

We find ourselves able to do what we want today, since it's a free day. As pdam suggested that we check out the video-game, I figure now's a good time to follow her advice and see what happens. Huh. Immediately the game reaches forward and smashes the fourth wall. Both of them. I'm guessing the message from "PHIL" is a reference to an old Shin Megami Tensei game, possibly the first Persona. I'm not entirely sure on that, though, so let me know in the comments! Meanwhile, we're talked to by a REPORTER, another player in the game who proceeds to trip my spelling and grammar alarms. I want to reach through the screen, both of them, and strangle her. Then again, she seems nice enough. Apparently Innocent Sin is fairly dead these days, to which she responds by shrugging it off and trying to get back in character. She suggests that she call ourselves Tatsuya. Real subtle there, Atlus. And of course she says she'll change hers to Maya. Man, this is just one big reference, isn't it? Starting to see why pdam was so insistent on me playing this game. She's impressed that we get the reference and suggests we level up together some time. Apparently this is enough to justify a social link, so that's cool. This long-distance Social Link is of the Hermit Arcana. I'm suddenly getting a case of deja vu...

Thursday rolls around again, and we get Mr Ono the kabuto-helmed guy. Once again he pines for the time that he'll be able to get to the Sengoku era. As he rambles, we're given an opportunity to nod off, but sleeping means less bonuses, so let's stay awake! More academics for us! We're also told to look up a tomb in Nara, since it'll come into the exam. Useful things to know. Anyway, let's go see if Kazushi has recovered yet for the time being! We'll check out the School Council tomorrow. We don't get anything important when we attend Kendo, but coming home we discover our phone ringing. Turns out Elizabeth (the helper of Igor) wants to talk with us. She wants us to come to the Velvet Room alternate entrance located in the mall. I am suddenly terrified. Oh well, let's bite the bullet and go see what Igor and Liz want from us. I pray I don't regret this.

We find the Velvet Room door in the mall, hidden away in what for most people would be a dead end. After offering a brief prayer to whatever's up there, we open the door and see what horrible things Igor has in store for us. As it turns out Elizabeth has some requests for us. Warily I choose to accept her first requests, taking the Juzumaru and Cadenza requests, while also making note of the 5/7 Mall request. We'll see whether or not I remember those. As it turns out, we've already done the Cadenza request, so we're given 5 Agilao gems. Well, that was easy! Do her requests, get some rewards. Neat.

Well, I think it's time to get out of the Velvet Room as quickly as possible before Igor starts asking things of us as well, so I shall see you all next time, hopefully with 40% less Velvet Room-ing!

PHIL refers to Philemon, who was in the first two Persona games. The blue butterfly you saw in the first scenes of the game was revealed by Word Of God to be him as well. So why make a Innocent Sin MMO if P2 is canon to P3?

Well, originally, the MMO was Devil Busters Online (a call back to Megami Tensei II for the Famicom), "Tatsuya" was "N-jima" (A reference to Nakajima from MT1/the original novels) and "Maya" was "Y-ko" (Yumiko, the heroine of MT1/the novels). Presumably, the P1 locations like the Lunarvale Hospital were DDS/MT locations as well, and there wasn't references to JOKER and the like.

Boring trivia over.

Anyway, you can do Elizabeth's "take me somewhere" requests any time you visit her through the mall Velvet Room door instead of the Tartarus one. I suggest you do them, as they are rather amusing, and if you miss the chance for one, you can't do the later ones.
