Mat arrives in Caemlyn, but suffers a case of Poor Communication Kills when he neglects to lead with Elayne’s name to the palace guards. More understandable than most since no one told him Morgase isn’t too fond of Aes Sedai right now, but it’s still nice that he kicks himself over it. Thom meets up with good old Gill, who tells them Morgase has a new advisor, Gaebril, who has been turning her against the Aes Sedai and putting his own mercenaries in the guard. But Mat has another plan to get the letter to her, which I’m guessing involves climbing the wall at the spot Rand found in book one.
I’m guessing Gaebril is not another of the Forsaken, which I think we’re supposed to suspect with the stuff about his influence over Morgase, so soon after learning about Sammael. He’s just a regular human obstacle that will probably be defeated by the end of the book.
