This is another chapter that’s mostly Scenery Porn, which is kind of odd since Egwene’s seen it already, but it’s very neat stuff and a lot more interesting than the mountain hideout. Hurin leaves to tell the rulers of Shienar what happened, and I kind of hope we get to follow him now, as I’ve gotten pretty attached to him. The others have bigger problems, as we’re reminded that the girls have been considered AWOL for months, and Verin doesn’t seem very interested in correcting that, while Sheriam puts them under an order of silence. They’re confined to their rooms, with the guards being the Good Cop/Bad Cop duo Theodrin and Faolain, and another one who’s just kept vague for now.
I really love all the stuff about Tar Valon, complete with a map stuck into the chapter itself. This is how you do scenery porn without dragging things down. I’m guessing we’ll see a lot more of Theodrin and Faolain at least, since their few lines suggest they have some history that’s probably not very good.
