Quality, not quantity, is the name of this game, Lombroso.

Soren used a Master Crown to get to third tier early, at level 17, and then he slaughtered every soldier Lombroso sent after him. Also, Ike and Soren reached A level support in this chapter.

Chapter 5-3 - Retreat!: Finished.

Ike & Mist: Stayed near the castle, where Mist healed Ike whenever he got hurt, and Ike abused the hell out of a Wind Edge so that he could deal with the large amount of mages. Ike thinned the crowd in the first few turns, and the influx of foes stopped, letting Ike and Mist take the fight to the enemies. Mist headed west, where she took out the mages coming in with ease, and Ike waited by the stairs on the east side to hold back the generals that were coming at them.

Soren: Now third tier, he takes on Lombroso's central forces with ease. He dodged a large amount of the enemy offensive, and any foes that did hit were then blasted with Flare to refill his health. He pushed through the enemies without pause, preempting his foes with Vantage and then either reducing their weapons to ash with Corrosion or simply removing any chance they had of attacking with a well placed Adept, Flare, Crit, or any mix of the above. He even got Flare four times in a row at one point, before he soon reached Lombroso and fought with him.

Lombroso: Fought Soren, he got blasted by Elfire (as well as having his weapon corroded) after attacking on his own turn with a Short Axe, and then running away. Reinforcements rode in, and Soren had to deal with those while Lombroso stayed out of Sorens reach, until Soren circled around his hiding place and finished him off with Elwind, Elfire having run out of charges incinerating the reinforcements.

VS Lombroso: The Master Crown proved a very prudent choice, it seems. I had been worried we'd be overwhelmed by the sheer number of foes, and I used it to provide us with the extra strength we might need, but it appears that it worked far better than I had expected.

As Soren called forth another lightning strike upon an unwitting paladin, he could feel the power all around him. The very forces of nature bent to his call, as he struck down the numerous foes that hurled themselves into his range. He continued pushing forward, the enemy general now in sight, as he prepared to bring an end to this battle. He launched a blast of flame at one of the knights guarding the general, and wasn't surprised to see the other two blindly charge at him, just as all of the other soldiers had done. Soren was unsure of what their general was thinking with such a haphazard plan, when he dodged a Short Axe thrown by the man himself, and his boast shortly thereafter cleared away any doubt.

"The outcome of a battle depends solely on the number of troops in the field! Tactics and skill are nothing in the face of sheer numbers!"

Soren wasn't sure how to respond to such a statement. Was this man completely oblivious to the situation around him? Countless soldiers under his command lie dead on the ground, all at the hands of a single opponent. The sheer stupidity astounded Soren, and in spite of himself, he began to laugh.

"Wait, are you laughing at me? Gah! Die, you insolent cur!"

The man threw his axe again, but Soren easily avoided the projectile, raising his arm to summon forth a swirling ball of fire. He launched the blast at the enemy general as his axe returned to him, and the wall of fire reduced the stout weapon to ash, as well as harshly searing the man on the other side. Soren was about to let fly another blast, when Lombroso gave a curt call for reinforcements, and then began galloping off in an attempt to escape. Soren ran towards the hill he had charged beneath, preparing to intercept him, when a platoon of knights ran in and began attacking him. He dispatched them swiftly, and then ran down the other side of the hill, his Elwind in hand now that his Elfire tome was out of charges, and he cut off Lombroso before he could finish rounding the bend. He gave a quick tug to the reins, attempting to reverse his direction, but he wasn't fast enough, and he was beset by the razor edged gale that Soren sent at him, his throat slit open before he could give another call.

Up Next: We rejoin the Dawn Brigade in Daein, as they accept a surprising task at the request of Begnion.

Comment Question: This one isn't really related to the chapter, but would you guys want me to post a support conversation (in games that have good ones, not the RD style ones) when they happen in the game? I've noticed that while I mention support levels, I never actually do much to reference them. Would you guys want me to add them in, or do you prefer to not have them in the entries?

Well, I suppose support conversations would be a good way to show character development, in addition to those wonderful VS sections you've been creating. And while one of the strong points of this format is that it succinctly summarizes minor events, I think it would be worth having longer entries in order to get the most out of these characters as we can.

Cool, thanks for the input! I'll make sure to add supports into the chapter entries as they happen.
