Oh god Natasha you are so far behind...

She's level 5 right now, where everyone else at the end of this chapter is level 13, or in Garcia's case, 14. Damn the low exp gain for staves. Of all things, staff exp gain is what I miss most right now from Awakening.

Chapter 7 - Waterside Renvall: Finished.

Base: Purchased a new iron sword for Franz, and then sold a few things that I wouldn't be needing to get some spare cash, since we are presently a bit low on funds.

Eirika: Hung back, as usual, although when I accidentally had Josh send a sword to the convoy instead of a pure water, she helped him get it back. Seized once Murray fell.

Party: Mostly traveled together throughout the whole of this invasion. Joshua split off from the main group to deal with a mage and fighter north of where everyone started, while the rest of the group slowly pushed forward, drawing out foes one by one (purposefully seeking counterattacks, so that Natasha could reap the benefits). The reached the southeastern bend when Joshua caught up to them, and he and Franz dealt with a couple mercenaries while Garcia headed northeast to smash the ballistician and his fighter body guard (proccing two 2% crits as well, like a boss). Franz and Neimi killed the soldiers guarding the bridge to Renvall, and then Neimi lured out the archers near Murray, thus cleaning up the remainder of the foes.

Supports: One this chapter, being Natasha and Franz (C).

  • Franz: Sister Natasha.
  • Natasha: Hello, Franz. How are you doing?
  • Franz: I'm doing fine, thank you. Everything is fine. And you look like you're doing well, too. I'm relieved.
  • Natasha: Yes, but it's all thanks to everyone's care and concern, really. I'm grateful for all the attention everyone has paid to my safety. That goes for you, too, Franz.
  • Franz: Oh, pshaw, Sister Natasha. I am just a pawn, really. I don't do much...
  • Natasha: You are too modest, Franz. I'm telling you the truth.
  • Franz: Thank you.
  • Natasha: By the way, that's a very interesting satchel you have.
  • Franz: Huh?
  • Natasha: It's not military issue, is it? I haven't seen any of the other cavaliers carrying one like it.
  • Franz: Oh, this old thing? To tell you the truth, I made it myself.
  • Natasha: Really?
  • Franz: Yes. This pouch holds a skin of water, and this pocket is for food. There's also a pocket for herbs... I can find everything very quickly. Oh, and I've also fixed it so that it won't shake about while I'm riding. It's easy to carry on one shoulder or sling over both. And it goes with everything.
  • Natasha: That's nice! You're so handy.
  • Franz: Thank you. It's...probably my only redeeming trait. Uh... Would you like one? I can make one for you.
  • Natasha: Really? That would be wonderful. But...are you sure?
  • Franz: Yes, of course. No problem.
  • Natasha: Thank you, Franz.

Murray: Franz fought him, and they spent three rounds trading blows, Franz missing one of his strikes (5 hits, 6 total), and dodging two of Murrays (1 hit, 3 total).

Afterwards: Everyone enters the castle, and Eirika and Seth stumble upon Orson. Seth wonders where Ephraim is, but Eirika is too worried for Orson's immediate safety, and asks how everything is at the moment. Orson explains that he barely escaped, and notes that Ephraim may or may not be unharmed. He then leads us deeper into the castle to find Ephraim.

Up Next: It's a Trap, where, well... need I say more?

Comment Question: Since he's the highest in level (if not by much), what would you guys like me to promote Garcia into?

Poor, poor Natasha. I'd suggest promoting her as soon as possible and then pouring stat boosters into her to make up for skipping ten levels, but I don't remember this game being as generous as Awakening in that regard. At least she has two men competing for her affection. Will it be Franz or Joshua that eventually wins her over? My guess is on the latter, since there's one possible party member that can support both Franz and Neimi...though at this point, reality conflicting with my estimates seems to be a running gag.

As for Garcia...well, the choice is between Hero and Warrior. Warrior has a higher Strength cap, but Hero has a higher Skill cap. Hero can use swords (just like Franz and Joshua), while a Warrior can use Bows (just like Neimi). In a play through that utilized every party member instead of just six, as Neimi was voted to be a Ranger, Garcia could be either class and it would still be possible to have every last-tier class in your army at once.

Now, looking at your party thus far, you have some skillful and speedy units (Neimi and Joshua), and Garcia really specializes in strength. Plus, while you already have one bow specialist, it couldn't hurt to have a second person whittling down enemy health from the other side of a wall every once in a while. So, I'll vote for Warrior. Best of luck in rescuing Ephraim, by the way!

I vote to turn Garcia into a Warrior. I like its promote gains better and it improves his ax usage.

Yeah, Warrior.

On that note, I always pictured Hero as the class Garcia had before he retired. Not sure why. Maybe because it seems younger and more "professional" than the Fighter or Warrior.

@Garcia: Alright then, warrior it is! I was expecting something like this, since Warrior!Garcia is pretty good, and makes better use of Garcia's good strength growth.

@Endark: I'm sure your inference is correct, given that there is only one person with anther support that can fit into this situation.

@Otherarrow: That's an interesting theory, and it's nice to think on the backstories of characters. Plus, axe heroes are pretty cool.
