Looks like Durbans was a bit of a pack rat.

Seriously, look at all the treasure stored alongside his Divine Weapon Armads, The Axe of Lightning!

Roy follows Elphin's lead and heads for the cave housing the divine weapon, but it looks like we aren't the only ones looking for it...

At the preparations menu I notice the new Augury function, and see that Lalum is in command of this little tab (I assume it's Elphin in the route you don't get him?). I check my stuff, and aside from chapter speed, I've been doing pretty well. Chapter 7 likely ate up my turns thanks to the arena. I also notice I can't bring too many people... Darn. Gonna bring Lance, Geese, Ellen, Rutger, Astol, Sue, Dieck, and Rutger. All units nearing level 20 (Lance, Rutger, Sue, and Dieck) have a promotion item for when the time comes, and Ellen has a Torch staff for experience and added sight range in this dark cave.

Astol's gonna be busy here.

Now with Scott recolor, we see that a group of bandits has situated themselves in the base to try to get the treasure before they seal the cave like Bern told them to. The oddly speaking man then tells his men to take us down once they catch wind of our presence, but worst of all, he tells his men to take the treasure! Back with Roy, he and Elphin talk about the divine weapon sealed within the cave, and Elphin notes that it's likely Armads. Roy comments on Elphins knowledge of the eight heroes and divine weapons, and he writes it off as due to being a bard and knowing many myths and legends. Elphin then warns about both the bandit presence as well as "strange fumes" coming from the walls (great, poison traps, hate those more than fire traps) before the chapter starts.

Roy, Lance, Geese, and Ellen head north, Ellen lighting up the area while the others prepare to fight off the bandits. Dieck, Rutger, Sue, and Astol take the eastern path, with Astol as their eyes and the three of them smashing through the enemies. Lance disposes of one thief while also preparing to intercept a second before he can make off with more than an Elixir, while Geese and Roy guard Ellen. Sadly, the thief Lance went for went after a different chest, but he only got an Antitoxin, so nothing of great value was taken. Rutger slays a thief himself, sending the stolen elixir to the convoy, as well as reaching level 20. Rutger promotes while Sue hunts down the third thief and Dieck fights off some bandits, getting himself to level 20 as well.

Rutger helps Sue chase down the thief, eviscerating a bandit in her way (dead serious, he had 39 innate critical without support bonuses), while she and Astol hunt their charge. Dieck promotes himself, as he continues heading east to take down the foes there. Roy's group moves a bit more slowly, as they try to feed Geese some kills and push through the bandits little by little. The final thief runs over to Sue, his pockets full with mostly useless loot as he prepares to escape, hoping a druid with eclipse will distract me. It avails him nothing, however, and Sue takes him down soon after.

Sue kills the eclipse druid a bit later, and Rutger helps take care of some other foes while Astol heads down to where Dieck is to take some of the treasure. Astol's only real find was a Red Gem, the rest of his current pickings being some Antitoxins, while Sue, Lance, and Geese head for the throne area. As those three deal with the enemies near Grero, the bandit leader, Sue reaches level 20, and I notice that Grero is a berserker (god I hate enemy berserkers...), and is packing a silver axe as well, so his hits are going to hurt.

Meanwhile, after Sue promotes (I'm digging the nomad trooper class design, what with the cool feathered cap and all), Astol finishes cleaning the place of its treasure, gaining a white gem, a lockpick (what.), a torch (still burning, despite being in a sealed chest that has been in a cave for lord knows how long), a chest key (what.), and an antitoxin. Durbans had the weirdest sense of what to put in treasure chest, I swear.

Anyway, now alls that's left is to deal with Grero. He's a tough one, with some decent speed and defense, okay skill, and good strength coupled with his silver axe. His res being only three, I am suddenly wishing I had brought Lugh right now, but that's the past, and this fruity berserker is the current business. Sue rips off a good chunk of health with her killer bow, and is pulled to safety so that he doesn't change weapons. This cycle continues for a few more turns (although she switches to an iron bow so that she doesn't kill him), and then Lance swings in and finishes him off with an iron sword, reaching level 20. He then promotes himself, and Roy seizes the throne.

Roy and Elphin find Armads, and admire the might of the weapon before Roy is told of a rebellion in the Etrurian capital of Aquleia by a soldier. He says that Roartz and Arcard have captured King Mordred and are announcing their plan to divide ownership of the world between Etruria and Bern. Roy asks about what happened to Cecilia and Guinevere because of this, and the soldier responds with the information that Cecilia has headed for the island of Misul to the west, and that the other generals obey Roartz due to him holding the king hostage. Roy prays for the safety of both Cecilia and Guinevere, and then takes Armads from its resting place before leaving.

Armads: S rank Axe, 18 might, 75 hit, 0 crit, 13 weight, and +5 to the wielders defense.

FYI, there's a person next chapter you can recruit, but it's pretty hard and mostly for bragging rights since you get another much easier opportunity later.

Thought you should know you so you don't feel you have to retry if they leave.

Alright, thanks for the tip, since I likely would have retried if they had left.

A small word about the character you recruited last chapter: his name's not actually "Ray," it's supposed to be "Lleu," pronounced "lay," which is a reference to Celtic Mythology. Lleu was the Welsh name of the Celtic culture-hero also known in Ireland as, you guessed it, Lugh! By the same token, "Narshen" is supposed to be "Nacien," which is an Arthurian reference.

I thought something was odd, since you always called him Nacien, but I'd read Narshen a couple of times before, so I figured it was just a translation based on preference. I've got to say though, while Nacien is more proper due to the reference (although considering in mythology Nacien is a holy hermit, I find the comparison... odd), Narshen sounds more fitting to me, since it sounds more rough and grinding to say, while Nacien is smoother.

I was also wondering why Ray's name was so much simpler looking than Lugh's. I would not have expected them to be the same reference, but in different languages, though. The fact that they're twins is a pretty awesome mythological pun.

Grero isn't the fruity bandit either. They are still yet to come. You will notice them when you see them.

As for Nacien, I always assumed that his name was meant to be ironic, since he is more or less the opposite of his Arthurian counterpart.

As for Lleu, my guess is that they can't write the Welsh in Japanese, so they went with "Lay/Ray", the closest they could get. Lucky for us, the Romanized name "Lleu" shows up in some of the official material, or we would have probably completely missed this one.

Oh I know Grero wasn't the fruity bandit (there was only one of him, for one thing), but he acted wacky enough with his odd speech patterns that I figured he earned an honorable mention.

Fuck the Irish and fuck the Welsh, Ray is way easier to remember than Lay.
