And Laura said "Let there be Light Magic".

And then there was Light Magic. And it was awesome. Laura is now second tier, and Jill sadly had to sit this fight out.

Chapter 8-1 - Glory Unwanted: Finished.

Aran: Now not the only fighter out of the duo, Aran still kicked a lot of ass. This chapter began to take its toll when Arans low speed growth finally caught up to him, and he was unable to double many of the enemies. Still, his high defense, support with and from Laura, and good power let him push through the foes, and make his way to the bosses position. He fought off two wyvern knights who came after him as he guarded Laura, who was busy healing people. They then headed towards Radmin, and he took down the soldiers guarding the boss, but also caught the attention of the boss and his mages. Once the normal mages had been dealt with, Laura took over, and Aran rested after being healed.

Laura: Did everything in this chapter, and gained five levels from it, since a healing unit with Paragon is an amazing thing. She assisted Aran in taking down the foes, though she was also a bit too slow to double most of them since the priest speed cap is 15, and she only just class changed at the chapters start (bonus exp is fun). Still, the enormous speed that she gained experience at as every unit in the chapter dealt with their own little corner of the swamp, and then came to her so that she could heal them of their wounds, be it caused by the poison weapons or simply by a strong foe. Once they were all healed, Laura joined Aran as he made his way to the boss, and Laura healed Aran as he fought the remaining mooks, before the boss came, and Laura took over. She then fought Radmin, and defeated him handily.

Others: Rafiel made Lauras job faster, giving her twice as many chances to heal as possible, while Nailah, Zihark, Muarim, and Vika all rescued one of the captives.

Radmin: Attacked Aran, who Laura healed, and then fought with Laura. He dropped some lightning on her when she was defenseless with the staff as Aran retreated, and Laura countered on her turn with a blast of light magic, taking yet another shock from Radmin. He attacked again, this time the traded blows leveling Laura up, where she got the speed to double him on her turn. She did so, dodging the lightning bolt that he tried to hit her with that time, while her two spells finished him off.

VS Radmin: The lightning struck, and Arans body visibly shook as the electricity coursed through his body. Laura quickly ran over to him, raising her staff and healing the burns as they formed, and then asking him to stand back. As he did so, a second bolt struck down upon Laura, sending a stinging tingle throughout her body, though no visible damage came from the strike. As she tied her staff in place at her side, she pulled out a light magic tome, contemplating what it meant to her.

I was always so helpless, unable to do anything but hide behind Aran or Jill and wait for them to get hurt as they protected me, so that I could heal them and they could get hurt again. Eventually the battle ended, and no one got hurt for a time... but even then, no matter what, after every battle they were always completely exhausted, unable to do anything for the next day but rest. I can only heal them, and while I know I'm doing good, they still feel the pain of the wounds as they're inflicted, and they still end up too tired to celebrate their survival and victory the following day. I try to help them in other ways, such as in the battle in Terin, but had Jill not acted so quickly, the battle would have been lost then and there, and everyone would have been killed. Now, with this tome, I can take some of that burden unto myself, and protect them as much as they protect me.

She turned to face her opponent, and raised her hand into the air, feeling the energy of the spell flow into it as she read the incantation. Dancing streams of solid light fell upon the man, forcing him to his knees, before he got up and returned a strike with his own spell. The lightning that fell upon her barely frayed her robes, and she ignored the slight sting of the electricity, focusing only on reading the tome in her hands and making sure the spell hit. More rays of light appeared to the mans side, slamming into him and hurling him to the ground. He grunted with the impact, but quickly casted a counter-spell from his downed position, yet again striking her, and yet again she bore the building pain, striking with one more falling blast of light. Her foe got to his feet, and she called down the next stream of lights, Radmin simultaneously growling out the Elthunder incantation. She felt stronger as the fight drew on, and leaped out of the way of the lightning, incanting one final time to bring down the man who had tried to sacrifice so many to kill them.

As she walked through the thickets to see Aran awaiting her, unwounded and safe, she knew she had succeeded at what she had set out to do.

Up Next: The final invasion of Nevassa (One Survives lacks any of my party units, so it won't be shown), where this powerful trio shall take back Daein!

Comment Question: Do you think I handled the characterization of Laura well in the VS Section, or do you think it came across as forced and not really fitting?

I actually thought the personality you gave her fit rather well. It's a pity that some of the new characters in Radiant Dawn got so little development, I would have liked to see something like that in canon.

Unrelated, but I've always wondered just what getting hit with Light or Dark magic actually felt like. The VS section made that come to mind.

I figured Dark magic just directly made you feel pain in one way or another, while Light magic either blasts you with solid light, or acts like a laser. I went with solid light, because the games showing of it doesn't really bring laser to mind.

As for Laura, I'm glad you liked it! I was being kind of drastic with it, and wasn't sure if I had gone overboard, but I think I struck a decent medium for what little we're given in the game.
