Michael Jackson Would Not Have Approved of This in This Context

Vincent: They look like monsters to you?

Timecode: 1:10: Heavy Metal Thunder. I have no idea what it is, but boy, does it rock with music from the likes of Michael Schenker and Sex Machineguns.

4:58: Accidental Nightmare Fuel, ahoy! Pu Li Ru La, a sidescrolling action game where a boy dressed like a Boy Scout uses magic to defeat enemies. But the backgrounds are a bigger threat, with a door between a giant pair of women's legs, to digitized pictures of Hollywood Pudgy sumos. There's also a sideways head from which a giant cartoon tongue springs forth to attack. It's all very surreal. You can learn more from Hardcore Gaming 101.

9:55: Exterminator, an arcade game from Gottileb. The player assumes the role of an exterminator... or, apparently, his disembodied hands, as he squishes and slams bugs and toy tanks gone mad, and rats in a bonus round. The fact that he has to use his bare hands to exterminate pests is gross, although he can apparently get the ability to shoot lasers out of his fingers. The oddly realistic graphics are what make it border on Accidental Nightmare Fuel.

15: 36: Dino Rex! A cheap-looking fighting game from Taito. What makes it different from Primal Rage is the lack of blood and gore and the cheapness of the graphics. Primal Rage used stop-motion models to portray its characters, but in Dino Rex it's painfully obvious that the characters are hand-drawn, cheaply, at that. It looks even less convincing than Primal Rage does.

16: 25: Chiller, an arcade game from Exidy that is infamous for its gore and cruelty. It's a shooting gallery game... where you can shoot more than just monsters on every screen. This very brief clip only showed the screen where you shot at people chained to the wall in a torture chamber, graphically dismembering them. What did they do to deserve being thrown in there? No one knows, or will ever know. Maybe they are bad people, but that's just one of the reasons why Chiller is Serious Business to me that transcends High Octane Nightmare Fuel.

Next: Broads.

... Oh man, I just looked up videos of Heavy Metal Thunder, and DEAR LORD.

It looks like a cross between Monster Rancher, HARDCORE Japanese metal, and a Blood Sport. Losing robots are messily blown apart as execution, with their controllers hot-branded and sent off to some island for execution.

I can see why this wouldn't be translated.

O_O

It sounds cool up to that part about the hot-branding and the executions. I guess the interns didn't get that far into the game for them to even try to convey that part of the story.

At that rate, it couldn't be translated without the downsides being heavily altered, at the least.

Thanks! I always wondered about what the game was really about. D:
