Chapter 14: Rain, Rain, is a major Pain. (False Friends, NOW with Spellcheck!)

Chapter 14:

After our adventure in Caelin, we continued on to Laus. Eliwood and Hector were beginning to worry about the chances of having to go to war with Laus. We were soon approached by the son of the Marquess, Erik. Hector apparently can't stand the guy, so he went off with Oswin to check the area out. Good thing too, as we soon found ourselves under attack.

I realized a nasty surprise, that when Lowen died, he took the brand new handaxe that I had for Hector with him. This may hurt my planning a bit.

Merlinus offered to help out by allowing us to send items to him. He claims that we may need a guard, but I'm afraid there's no one I can afford to have defend him. I'll still send him out however. Hector quickly found himself leveling up on some of the soldiers that had gotten behind us.

Everyone but Marcus went to save the northern village. Marcus however, was forced to rescue the southern village, which was about to be sacked by pirates.

Along the way, Serra (who leveled up through her healing) ran into her old hiree, Erk. Apparently he's working for someone else now, and has requested for us to protect her. It's in line with our mission, so we decided to accept.

The team continued to try to protect the northern village, but the other troops managed to beat them there. The village would have been ransacked if it wasn't for the fact that the Laus troops had horrible formations, which managed to protect the village. If there's one thing I've learned by reading the tales of Fantasinia, it's that poor formations can be one's downfall. A lesson that I still need to learn...

...In a foolish mistake, I tried to have Marcus head back to Merlinus's tent to save the goods that were there from Pegasus Bandits, but instead, he just wasted his time, as it was too late. Merlinus wasn't hurt, but we it'll be difficult to handle our items for a bit. Marcus was also delayed in providing aid to Hector, who was tangoing with Erik in front of the northern village. Hector managed to level up again, with his Defense continuing to rise higher than Oswin's.

Hector managed to defeat Erik thanks to his mighty defense and his Iron Axe, and he and I were able to tie him up and have the villagers keep watch on him until the rest of the fight was over.

The remaining Bandit decided to get smart and ran towards the Southern Village, but fortunately, Marcus realized what was going on and chased after him with his Javelin. It went pretty smoothly after that. Hector (who leveled up one more time) and Marcus managed to take out the rest of the units that had all bunched together near the northern village, while Serra went in to collect Erik, whom the villagers helped deliver to the castle along with a very nice Iron Blade, as thanks.

Having taken out the Lausian forces, Erk's employer, Priscilla, was able to leave the care of the villagers that had helped her out. The two of them have decided to join up with us. Erk shall be helping me out with strategy, and Priscilla shall mostly be working as a medic off of the battlefield. Hector and Eliwood interrogated Erik, and we learned some startling news, that Eliwood's father approved of the rebellion, and may no longer be alive. I later overheard that Oswin attempted to convince Hector to return to Ostia and not involve himself, but he later changed his mind and instead swore his allegiance to the young lord. I have to admire Eliwood too, for striving on to learn the truth of his father's possible betrayal, even though he's still in poor condition.

Things are definitely becoming more grim...I just hope the rest of the army can handle the new challenges ahead.
