Yellow: "According to the sign, the next town is Viridian City. This doesn't seem too hard..."
{The two are suddenly attacked by a wild Pidgey. Pikachu fires off a thundershock, but Pidgey holds on to blow a gust in retaliation. A second thundershock ends the battle with Pidgey collapsing into the brush.}
Pikachu: Actually, he's right. That wasn't hard
{They come across another traveller roaming the area.}
"Hi! I work at a Pokemon Mart. It's a convenient shop, so please visit us in Viridian City. I know, I'll give you a sample! Here you go!"
Yellow: "Thanks a lot!" (Adding this to my emergency medicine makes two Potions. That'll make sure Pikachu's in top shape.)
"We also carry Poke Balls for catching Pokemon!"
Pikachu: "Pi!" What?! More of them?
{They make it to Viridian city with no other noteworthy encounters. The first building they enter is a Pokemon center, where Pikachu's minor injuries are treated. Afterwards, Yellow decides to explore a bit and listen to the neighborhood gossip.}
"You want to now about the 2 kinds of caterpillar Pokemon?"
Yellow:"Sure, what about them?"
"Caterpie has no poison, but Weedle does. Watch out for it's Poison Sting!"
Pikachu: I knew about that. But what these humans wouldn't know is that there aren't any Weedle - or Pikachu - in Viridian Forest now. They've all been caught already...
{Other buildings in Viridian include a small schoolhouse, where Yellow listens in on a lesson about Status ailments and how to cure them.}
Yellow: ("Use Awakening", "Use Antidote", "Use Parlyz Heal", Is this a lesson or a Pokemart commercial?)
"Sis says Pokemon will become tame if you treat them nicely."
Pikachu: "Tame"? Well... Why shouldn't we respond to kindness?
{Up north, The road is blocked by a prone old man.}
Old Man: "You can't go through here! This is private property!"
"Oh Grandpa! Don't be so mean! He hasn't had his coffee yet."
Yellow: (Looks like this way is blocked.)
{Yellow decides to go to the Pokemart next.}
Clerk: "Hey! You came from Pallet Town? "
Yellow: "Yeah, I did."
Clerk: "You know Professor Oak, right? His order came in. Will you take it to him?"
Yellow: "Alright."
Clerk: "Okay! Say hi to Prof Oak for me!"
Yellow: (Wait a minute, He didn't let me buy anything!)
{The trip back to Pallet town is easier thanks to short south-facing ledges. However, the patch just at the pallet Town Limits can't be avoided, and a Wild Rattata attacks. However, Pikachu is more experienced and easily overpowers it, leaving a clear path to Oak's Laboratory.}
Oak: "Oh, Yellow! How is my old Pokemon?"
Yellow: "I don't think Pikachu really thinks back on those two minutes, but I think He's well. She?"
Oak: "Well, it seems to like you a lot."
Pikachu: What? Is that what they call overstatement?
Oak: "You must be talented as a Pokemon Trainer!"
Yellow: "I dunno. I've only been in 3 battles so far, and two of them were wild... What am I going on about? I came here with a delivery for you!"
Oak: "What? You have something for me?"
Yellow: "Yeah. But I don't know what it is."
Oak: "Ah, this i the custom Poke Ball I ordered! Thanks, Yellow! By the way, I must ask you to do something for me."
Purple: "Gramps! "
Purple: "Gramps, my Pokemon has grown stronger! Check it out!"
Oak: "Ah, Purple, good timing! I needed to ask both of you to do something for me. On the desk to my right there is my invention, Pokedex! It automatically records data on Pokemon you've seen or caught! It's a high-tech encyclopedia!"
Yellow: "Cool."
Oak: "Yellow and Purple! Take these with you!"
Oak: "To make a complete guide on all the Pokemon in the world... That was my dream! But I'm too old! I can't do it! So I want you two to fulfill my dream for me! Get moving you two! This is a great undertaking in Pokemon history!"
Pikachu: ...Yellow is going to catch more pokemon just for the sake of a contraption? I must do something..!
Purple: "Alright Gramps! Leave it all to me! Yellow, I hate to say it, but I don't need you!"
Yellow: (What's wrong with Purple? The way he talks now, you'd think we were never friends.)
Purple: "I know! I'll borrow a Town Map from my sis! I'll tell her not to lend you one, Yellow! Hahaha!"
{Exit Purple}
Yellow: (...Even if Purple does that, Daisy won't listen. She was always the peacemaker around here.)
Oak: "Pokemon around the world wait for you, Yellow!"
Pikachu: We wait for a lot of things. Yellow isn't a bad trainer, but I don't like the idea of putting other Pokemon in Pokeballs, even if it does have its advantages. I need to get the point across somehow...
- Purple's House
Yellow; "Hi, Daisy. The Professor's sending me to do something for him."
Daisy: "Here, this will help you!"
Yellow: "Thanks! Uh, did Purple come by and ask you not to do this."
Daisy: "No, he didn't mention that."
Pikachu: Is that what they call a "lie"? Well, maybe not.
Yellow: (Hmm... North of viridian City is Route 2, Viridian Forest, and Diglett's cave. Then Pewter City. But what's this other path to the west? ...Indigo Plateau? That's my final destination.)
- Route 1, returning to Viridian City
Yellow: Pikachu, thundershock that Pidgey!
Pikachu: Pi! I have to get the message across before he gets any Pokeballs...
{Critical hit! But another Pidgey comes charging.}
Yellow: We're almost there! Just keep it up!
{The second Pidgey faints.}
Yellow: Whoah, you didn't take a single hit for the last 3 battles.
Pikachu: He'll listen. I know he will.
- Viridian City Pokemon Mart
Yellow: Hi again. I'd like to buy five Po-
Pikachu: Pi!
{Pikachu jumps onto the counter.}
Yellow: "Uh, excuse me for a minute."
{Yellow picks up Pikachu and goes over to a corner.}
Yellow: "What's this about?"
Pikachu: "Pi..." {Shaking head}
Yellow: "No? No..." (No what? Wait, Pikachu doesn't like being in a Poke Ball. Is that what this is all about?) "No Poke Balls?"
Pikachu: "Ka!" {Nodding} He does understand!
Yellow: "But if I don't buy any Poke Balls, I'll never be able to finish the Pokedex. And... things will be pretty hard on you if you're the only member of my team. I'm pretty sure the others wouldn't mind much."
Pikachu: He's right. But...
Yellow: "...We'll see how things work out. Ten Potions and an Antidote, please!"
Pikachu: "! Cha!!"
