Scene 28: Ogre Battle

Sorry for the delay, but new job and family problem makes having enough time to play this game and make a LP hard to do.

Here we are. 27 grueling stages have built up to this. What started as 5 people beating on an old man has now led to this: The Empire is on its knees, and now we go for the throat. Endora knows it is all or nothing, and she will not go without a fight. And one heck of a fight.

But first it is time to re-organize our troops into 10 units (the maximum we can deploy). Since this is the last two stages, there's no problems with mixing alignment. Just gotta remember who is the leader for town liberation purposes. Princesses and Liches? SURE! So, our final 10 squads are*

:
  1. Destin and two Paladins in the front row, a Muse and a Monk in the back row.
  2. Lans with Tristan in the front, a dollmaster, a muse and a monk in the back row.
  3. Two Ninja Masters in the fron, with Warren, Yushis and a sorceror in the back.
  4. Canopus and an eagleman in the front, two dollmasters and a monk in the back.
  5. Slust with a wyvern and a Paladin in the front, Norn in the back.
  6. Two Ninja Masters in the front, A Lich and two sorcerors in the back row.
  7. Two Paladins in the front, Aisha, Saradin and a Monk in the back row.
  8. Fenril and a Paladin in the front, a monk and a cockatrice in the back.
  9. Fogel and a paladins in the front, Rauny and a Dollmaster and a Monk in the back.
  10. Debonair and a Platinum Dragon in the front, A monk and a Seraph in the back.
  11. As an 11th squad in case one of my 10 gets TPK, a paladin with Leon and Gilbert in the front, a monk and a Seraph in the back.
So here we go. Endora's last day has come.
Scene 28: Ogre Battle

Funny thing, you may notice our base is the same castle we fought the boss of last stage, Xanadu. The map is otherwise straightforward. We will ignore towns with a heart icon on their stats screen below "High". Freeing such towns would harm our reputation. The good news is, the people here have seen how endora is going nuts, so they are less hostile to the rebellion than those of Xanadu.

Another big factor is the enemies have over 99 squads! to be launched in waves of 9, so simply weathering them down till none are left is a terrible idea. We will have to go on the offensive. So I deploy 8 units to move to various towns. A "special" enemy squad aims for either Destin or the base. so I keep squad 6 to play human shield for them.

Debonair meets a neutral ravenman over the water NW of the base. No time to look for recruits. Weirdly enough, Lans then meets one too. Whats with the over-eager neutral units?

Norn frees Albunba for III: Empress.

The city you see to the North West is Zeteginea, the heart of the Empire. Empress Endora and the mage Rashidi should be waiting for you in Zeteginea castle.

We won't keep her waiting. Shibulg is freed by squad 8 for XI: Justice. Nice.

You are the ones who killed my master Hikash aren't you? No. I am not angry. Hikash himself was concerned over the future of the Highlands. However, he would only play the role expected out of him. You are the only one who can save the Highlands now. Good Luck.

Lans meets the "special" enemy unit i mentioned: Gares! Indeed, Endora's army fields magical clones of her son, with two Wyvern. And though not a boss, Gares is tougher than ever, dishing out damage and dodging blows with ease. He will keep you on your toes. Still, Lans and Tristan easily TPK him and his squad.

Haljaya is freed by Canopus for XVII: Star.

Empress Endora was once a lovely woman, as caring as anyone I've ever met. But Rashidi let her down the path of evil, and her personality began to change. Now she laughs at the suffering and misery of the people who live beneath her!

Norn meets three Evil Ones with a Platinum Dragon. She kills two of the Evil ones, forcing the rest to retreat to the boss castle. Lans frees the temple north of the base for IV: Emperor.

Did... Did... you see prince Gares? How can there be so many Prince Gareses? I had heard he was immortal, but that is not even human!

Aisha meets three sorcerors and two phantoms. No match for her and Saradin's combined magic. She then fights three Dollmasters and a griffon. Not much more of a challenge. Norn meets three monks and a titan. Almage is freed by Yushis for XX: Judgement.

Prince Gares himself executed all the paladins in Zeteginea. Prince Gares chose the way of the Black knight, and lost every speck of compassion.

Norn meets a Ninja master and two Iron Golems. No match for her. This is followed by a cockatrice and three muses. Norn gets petrified and the group takes a few hit, and then I see Gares heading her way. Sigh... Debonair frees Bregga for VIII: Strength. Better than a kick to the face.

Our Empress Endora is a beautiful woman! There's no way someone like that could fall in the hands of evil.
Shallow much? I use boots to send Debonair to reinforce Norn. He easily beats Gares, while Yushis and Warren meet three Evil Ones and a Tiamat. On the defeated unit we find a "Sunshine" which lets me turn night into day. Handy for the final bosses. I send Debonair and squad 8 to capture the temple south of Zeteginea. Debonair frees it for XIII: Death. We meet a cloaked figure.

Have you discovered the power of Gares? Until now, you have not been fighting the real Gares. Or rather, his real body. Thanks to the power givento him by Rashidi, he is able to send his spirit out of his body. The Gares you fought in Avalon, Shangrila and Zeteginea was actually only the spirit of Gares. You were only fighting his animated armor! To defeat him you must fight his body. You must fight him in the flesh. He is probably hiding in some safe place, sending dummies after you.

Aisha frees Jijibrani for XIV: Temperance.

Did you see the execution of the Paladins? I've never seen such a thing... Prince Gares just walked in and cut every one of them down! It was a massacre!

Three Gareses! A flock? A pack? A mass? How do you call that?

Rashid is freed by Rauny for XVIII: Moon Where we learn that Gares was seen in the hidden temple in the NW corner. Norn beats three Muses and a Cockatrice and gets a stone of Dragos. Yay? Meanwhile, Debonair and Squad 8 fight wave after waves of enemies, especially Gareses. Seriously, He's fought 9 Gareses in a row. Does the game spawn anything else? Well no. The Hidden NW temple is freed by Aisha for O: Fool. There we find the real Gares.

So who you're still around? So the Empire is finished... But I will not concede! Rashidi and I will control this continent! Sorry but I have no time for your now. Have fun with my other selves, though! If you survive we shall meet and then I will finish you with my own hands!

I begin moving my units towards Endora's Castle. You may wonder who I am planning to use to defeat her, since no one ever cast a deciding vote between Destin and Debonair... So I flipped a coin. The winner is...

Endora is a pain in the butt. She is a black queen, essentially a Lich with even more attacks. She has the highest Int of any unit you have met so far, meaning she shrugs off most spells, taking a paltry 20 damage at most. Then she has a ton of agility. Meaning most attacks will miss. She is an annoying fight. You want to make sure to use a world card, because her impressive magic skill may cause her to TPK your party in one round. Which would be bad. To make the fight easier, I gave Destin and the knights white elemental weapons. Destin weilds Brunhild and the paladins weild a dragon's claw each.

Oh, fun fact. Sending a squad without either Destin or Debonair in it will cause Endora to offer to join her side. Accepting causes the entire squad to be destroyed. And I don't mean all the units are dead and hack in the base. No. Destroy. Deleted. Gone. So... don't do it.

Next Time, we face Rashidi and end this!
