Muspelm is our first floating island. These stages can only be accessed via the Chaos Gates that Brunhild allows us to find. This bonus stage is beyond important, not only will it score us a new special character whose might eclipses all those we've had so far. Lans doesn't hold him a candle. Ashe? Sorry man, you are old news.
But that's not all! This map has a Chaos gate leading to a realm where another special character of the same class is waiting!
But Wait, There's More! This map gives us an item, this item, when used on an amazon, turns her into the single most powerful regular unit in the game: The Princess! Perhaps even more powerful than the aforementioned special characters! And can you believe it's possible to miss visiting Muspelm, especially if one goes the evil path (thus forgoing Brunhild) ? So without further delay, we leave for the flying island of Muspelm.
Scene 12: The PaladinMuspelm is our first flying island◊ The black around the island represents empty air. Only flying units can cross it. Furthermore, any non flying unit who loses a battles and ends up pushed back beyond the edges of solid ground is dismissed, all of it's constituent units dead! This means we have to be VERY careful which angle we attack the enemy from, especially if we aren't sure we can win. Note that this works both ways, repelling an non flying enemy off the island kills that whole squad. Remember that if your flying unit looses it's flying members, the result is the same.
Most of the enemy squads in Muspelms have mid or high alignments, this makes the map ideal if you need some units to loose alignment. Lots of shamans, clerics, angels, eaglemen, silver dragons, frost giants and knights. Only two squad typeshave all around low alignments. On top of this, you may notice alot of the units are weak against fire. Griffons, Frost Giants & Silver Dragons. It's the time to break out the sorcerers and mages, who can devastate these units with deadly firewalls. Magician cards similarly will wreck havock on enemy troops.
First step is to transfer Brunhild from Destin to Canopus. He will go get the hidden treasures, and the Chaos Gate. Lans frees Taudent, getting a XII: Hanged Man.
You are the rebels fighting the Zelteginean Empire? Please help us, too! One of the 3 High Knights, Slust the Red, lives here. The empire came here to try and talk him over to their side. He refused to help them, so Rashidi used a powerful charm on him. So Slust doesn't know who he is anymore, and is fighting for the Empire. Please help us save Slust and the people of Muspelm!
The first hidden treasure is a Golden Mail, +12 physical resistances.
The first temple gets me XVII: Moon.
The charm on Slust is very powerful. We monks tried our best to cure it, but there was nothing we could do. Maybe a shock of some kind would bring him out of it.
Gotta love therapy through physical traumatism! I am in !
Before I even meet an enemy squad, Bancroft the demon's unit is attacked by a neutral unit! A fire giant. Sadly, I have no use for him, so his squad pulverize him. This is followed by an encounter of three eaglemen and a back row cockatrice. No match for a sorcerer, a demon, a mage and two werewolves (which the moon card has now allowed them to turn to their most powerful form). An easy win, as the eaglemen can not deal more than 1 damage per attacks! Even using their powerful lightning bolt! Mwaha!
Segejin gets me XVI: Tower.
The 3 High Knights were once mortals like us. They were originally Warrior who fought in wars down bellow. They were brought to the skies by the gods and given eternal life.
Fidelin gets me XIV Temperance.
We hear that another Sky Island has also fallen into the Empire's hands. No only that, but they were using powerful magic too steer it towards Zenobia Castle... What do they plan on doing with it? Dropping it on the castle?
The second non-hidden temple gets me IV: Emperor. It takes a while before I meet my second enemy squad: A Beast master with a pair of griffons, all in the back row. God, such bad unit design makes me think I am in Sharom again... No match for Lans! The second squad is a trio of Valkyries, two in the back, one in the front, with a pair of wild me, no match of Aisha, her cherubim and her knights. Similarly, a unit composed of two silver dragons and a cherub meets it's greatest flaw when a dragon is petrified by my cockatrice: 1/3 of the unit is thus incapacitated.
The hidden temple nets me XXI: World. Insala gets me VII: Chariot.
Slust is a bit silly, but really a great knight. If only he's stop chasing all those girls.
Now we know why he has the word lust in his name.
An annoyingly durable enemy unit is one made of three knights and a silver dragon. Weak, as two knights are in the back. But they have SO much hp!I manage to repel them off a cliff to an untimely death. Ah ah! Next stop, Dannis: where I find XI: Justice.
The knights of Muspelm have fled to this town. With an opponent like Slust, they knew they could not hope to win. I hope we can get our Slust back.
That's not a hyperbole. Slust is THAT good.
Chilfa gets me XVII: Star. ALOT of units attack my Demon's squad on the temple south of the boss' castle. About a dozen units end up being thrown over the ledge, many of them after I kill their one flying units, if any. Seriously, about a third to half of the enemy's 23 squads end up meeting such an end. It's glorious. The last two treasures are a Silver Tiara: Physical Resistances + 3, White + 8 and a Holy Fang, White Resistances +5.
Eventually I make to Slust. I send my most powerful unit to bare against him: Warren's. Three Sorceror with two samurais, this may be strong enough to defeat Slust the red. Slust is a Dragoon. Remember Debonair? Well, Dragoons are pretty much the same thing. In the back row, he has Ianuki, and a melee attack. His melee attack, charge, is the strongest type of direct damage melee attack in the game. He does it three time in the front row.
Slust has two Gold Dragons tanking for him. And he hits like a truck. I know I say that a lot, but his Ianuki hits for 108 damage! Defeating Slust gets us not only him, but a free Red Dragon II. But we are not done with Muspelm, we must return to Chilfa, asking us if we think beauty is important for a lady. Whatever you answer, he gives us a Royal Crown, which turns an amazon into the almighty Princess. with Slust and a Princess our army is amazingly bolstered. Aisha is turned into Royalty, while Slust is given charge of one of my flying units.
Next time: We get our second Dragoon.
