Ship Boarding, Like Pirates!

I've upgraded some accessories for Socrates, so now I'm pretty sure I'm ready to go off to the next set of levels on the Gargantua Deck. The first stop is "Point Alpha-III".

Apparently Laharl alone is totally messing up a lot of the human's two million ship, so if he can do that then Socrates should surely be on a cakewalk for this whole section! Of course, Laharl let the humans escape, while no one escapes Socrates' wrath. The humans will never understand his philosophies!

Apparently the EDF is pointing their Astro Cannon super weapon at me, but it doesn't look particularly devastating. It just looks like a normal gun, except maybe a little bigger. Maybe that's the point? Now, the battle starts! The music is actually pretty cool sounding.

So, it seems the enemies in this level are actually just the cannons themselves! That's actually pretty cool. Except for the fact that the Astro Cannons (there are two of them!?) are both level 100... yeesh.

They do TONS of damage that Plato can't manage to dodge. Perhaps I'm going to need to try this again... So, I at least take out one cannon, but Socrates gets killed and then there's pretty much my whole supply of good fighters gone!

Great Will of the Macrocosm reset this please!

Alright, let's look at this a little closer...

I'm pretty sure this is the kind of level where you're not supposed to kill the enemies, or there's something on the map that will help me or something. Since this is Disgaea, I'm guess Geo Symbols have something to do with it. What else?

Or, uh, hold on a minute. Since it was suggested that we just go past the guns, wouldn't that also work? Because I really don't want to just have to go and grind again. That would make this all seem so very anticlimactic.

Okay, checking the whole map area, there's one yellow Geo Panel across from my starting position. I guess I'm gonna go there. Coincidentally, it's in an exactly straight line from my warp pad base panel thing. I make yet another huge totem pole, and send it across the map. Stage clear from just walking on the panel. That was... odd.

I save again, then go off to the next place, now in the Gargantua Interior: Main Corridor I, of who knows how many. This strangely reminds me of the last area in Star Ocean 2.

Cutscene...!

Jennifer's awoken and oh no! Kurtis is there. He whips something out that Jennifer is apparently very afraid of. I guess other parts of him are sharp as well, not just his nose and hair. Gordon and the group notice her scream, and Gordon realizes that Kurtis is probably going to make her into a half robot person... which gives Laharl, Etna and Flonne strange ideas of what that would be like.

Battle start!

So far it looks completely straightforward: just beating some enemies to death, as per the usual turn based strategy fare. The enemies are a little tough, but aren't too much in the face of Socrates, who levels up during the fight, as does Plato. Simple enough, and I win without much of a hassle.

"Main Corridor II" is up next. More of the same, I think.

Cutscene, with Thursday delivering a message from General Carter. Carter for some reason is being all self-important and acting as if he's winning even though my team is absolutely trashing everything he throws at us save for those damn turrets. Carter reveals that the invasion of the Netherworld is meant to get more Lebensraum for ze human peoples. I knew there was something behind that moustache... and according to Carter here's where it gets real.

As usual, more mobs of EDF android guys, so the fight itself doesn't look too out of the ordinary. Making up for the first level, probably. A bit of a stupid move on my part removes the base panel (I threw an enemy on it, and he tore it all up) so I'm left with only Socrates after my other two main characters die. I quit idiotsville and try this level again, but with less stupidity on my part. Second try, now. I win, with a little help from my friends.

Off to "Main Corridor III" now. Jeez there are a lot of corridors. Probably because this ship is so... gargantuan.

Cutscene, as expected by now. Gordon runs into Kurtis that crazy scientist guy. Kurtis gives us his life story, and Laharl and Etna are bored to tears. Flonne, of course, wants to listen. TL;DR version: he lost his wife and kid in an accident a few years ago, back when he was a scientist with burning passion and he lost a bunch of his body and is mad at Gordon for not being able to save him and his family. Of course, we battle him anyways to show him the right path and justice and whatnot. Hooray us.

There are a bunch of Enemy Boost Geo Symbols at three corners of the map, but with the valiance of throwing characters I destroy them in the first round, huzzah! I feel mighty. Of course, about 80% of the characters involved in pulling that all off die in the next round. Sucks to be them, I guess? A for effort in any case. Their sacrifices made it so that Socrates and the rest of my ultra-powerful characters can obliterate these EDF soldiers with ease. Plato also may have died a little later, but Socrates lived on!! With her assured valiance I know we can pull through!

Since Kurtis is weak against fire in this, I use Graviton Bomb to take his health down to something so low even a level 10 character could beat him, then subsequently gain a ton of levels. I win, ahahahahahaha! Cutscene again!

Kurtis admits defeat, then collapses, but not before telling the group to beware of Jennifer. Oh dear, that can't mean anything good at all... Time for the "Bridge" level, which I can safely assume is the last of this rather big set.

The cutscene begins and the group confronts General Carter, who cedes to Gordon's request to release Jennifer. She's apparently now a cyborg puppet of Carter. Well, at least she isn't a giant battle mecha or something. Of course, Gordon can't bear to use his full strength against Jennifer, and Flonne doesn't want them all to blow up the ship, since she's "claimed" it. Odd.

Anyways, a cool insert song starts playing just as Kurtis comes on scene! Cyborg Kurtis fights a battle against Jennifer full of flashing fists and lights and the whole deal, and Kurtis sacrifices himself to save Jennifer from the bomb planted inside her. It's all really fast paced and intense. Jennifer, now a true Defender of Earth, joins us again, and we fight against Carter who sends out some Angel minions. The plot is thickening and getting more crazy and all that, and maybe the Burger King will make an appearance! But, now is the time for the battling!

This level is actually pretty normal. It looks like I just have to take out all the enemies. The one catch is that these Angels have super healing abilities, so I have to get one hit kills throughout the whole level. No problem, though, as even though Plato dies he's not quite as tough as Socrates, who regularly destroys enemies with one special attack. I have bictory once again!

In the following cutscene, Carter laughs villainously yet again, and warps away into a pod to escape. Then, out of nowhere, Mid-Boss shows up in the pod! He's interrogating General Carter as to who's helping him get into the Netherworld, acting pretty seriously. And, of course, awesomely. Flonne, now, is going back to Celestia to chat with the Seraph, that crazy hippie dude chillin' up there.

So, Final Episode time! I'm guessing this Episode is the last one, right? It should be fun.

So, I'll cover that one in the next update. Until then, enjoy reading!

EDIT: Duh, I kinda forgot the next episode's beginning scene. It's not much, though, it's basically Flonne announcing that she's leaving to go to Celestia, and everybody agrees to go with her. Again, that'll be in the next and possibly final part of my Live Blog of Disgaea!

Man, who would've thought Mid-Boss would actually get serious lines in this game.
