Rook Thinks Something's Up, Part 1

ROOK: ...

I think Rook is mulling something over, so, uh, Buddy?

BUDDY: I'm on it, pal! So, Rook fired all our dispatch agents except Beebee, Mike, Leaf, and Zoe, and put them on their respective floors. Then she hired Annie, Magellan, Elmira, Star, Liberty, Lyndsay, Agent Vic, and Carl. Then she rearranged their furniture, and sent them on their missions: Annie, Beebee, and Magellam went to help Gonk find food; Star, Elmira, and Mike went to see what was with Hopper's broth; Lyndsay, Liberty, and Leaf went to see what Dr. F's "F" stood for, and Carl, Agent Vic, and Zoe went to stop Dr. F's robot.

ROOK: ...Come on, Buddy.

BUDDY: What? Where're we goin', pal?

ROOK: To the boardwalk. Let's see if our agents ever show up.

BUDDY: Uh, okay...

ROOK: Half the agents we currently have recruited have a mission involving Dr. F, right?

BUDDY: Right...

GONK: Gonk glad you send food friends! Time to go hunting with new friends!

HOPPER: This team you sent is quite nimble! They're on the case already! I have a good feeling about this. Sproing!

ROOK: So if we hang out with Dr. F, we should see them, right? That is, if they're actually on the case.

BUDDY: Well, yeah, but why wouldn't we?

ROOK: I don't know. Something's fishy about this...

ALEXA: Your elite squad has checked in at the auxiliary lab. Their magnetic personalities should make this mission a breeze! I've set up a portal into Dr. F's mind, where your agents will seek out the truth. Prepare for brain dive!

DR. F: (over text messaging) Fascinating! Rook, this team of robo hunters has displayed a remarkable level of intelligence. Are you sure your agents aren't robots? That would be a crazy twist!

ROOK: And there we go! I'm with Dr. F, and they're nowhere in sight! I'm beginning to thing there's something very wrong about... everything.

ANNIE: I'm not very good at hunting, so I'm going to provide theme music for the hunt instead.

HOPPER: We're investigating the watering hole where I get most of my broth ingredients. It smells funny!

LEAF: The right side of the brain is the central point of activity for artists and rock gods like me! I took a quick detour to Dr. F's right brain, but didn't find anyone to jam with.

CARL: It's getting harder to keep my old arms and legs attached. I'm tempted by Dr. F's offer to implant a cyborg endoskeleton into my body. I guess that would make me a zomborg... hey, that has a nice ring to it!

ELMIRA: This Hopper could stand to learn a bit about frog digestion and metabolism. I think that would help his broth-making quite a bit.

ALEXA: Your squad has arrived in the cerebral cortex. Just as I presumed, Dr. F's consciousness is hanging out there. We have to get past him in order to proceed to Dr. F's subconscious. Your team will have to create a distraction. Initiating diversionary tactic!

DR. F: Great news, everybody! Your team of robo hunters has caught the scent of my missing prototype. Good thing I use garlic-flavored batteries to power all my robots! Genius!!!

GONK: Gonk and team are tracking beast. Beast leave footprints that are easy to follow.

MIKE: This glade is distinctly lacking in foreboding temples! My delicious subjects would never live here.

LIBERTY: I wonder if Miss Alexa can build a portal into Travis' mind. I would give anything to know what Travis is thinking! Then again, I guess I already know — he's always thinking about me!

Uh-huh. He hides it well, because he's always talking about phone apps.

AGENT VIC: No sweat, Rook. I'm an expert on robots. After all, I still hold the top score on Cyborg Wars down at the arcade!

BEEBEE: I don't like hunting! Did you know that some people hunt bunnies?!

HOPPER: I cooked up a sample of my broth for your team, but it's kind of...glowing. Should they drink it?

BUDDY: She advised them to.

ALEXA: Your team has engaged Dr. F's consciousness! They have his attention, but not for long. They need to keep him occupied with conversation. What should they talk about?

BUDDY: She said "Robots".

DR. F: Zounds! Your team has located my missing prototype, but they need advice in capturing it! I recommend using a 1.21 gigatesla magnetar to short-circuit its wiring! ...Or you can hit the off button.

BUDDY: She told them to use the magnetar, and went back to observing the doc.

GONK: Gonk confused. Footprints go different directions. Should team follow footprints to water or footprints to cave?

BUDDY: She told them to go to the cave.

HOPPER: This is very helpful! I was able to observe your team while under the influence of my broth! Sproing!

ALEXA: Robots! Dr. F's favorite subject! Your squad got him thinking about his next invention, the Discuss-O-Bot. Naturally, that caused a real Discuss-O-Bot to materialize in his mind, and now they're having a deep philosophical discussion about pudding. Now is your team's chance to sneak into Dr. F's subconscious!

DR. F: Good news: the Magnetar had no problem disabling F-Bot! Bad news: the intense magnetic field hyperpolarized every atom within 500,000 miles and destroyed the earth. Luckily, I just managed to use the F-Warp to reverse that timelime!

GONK: Cave full of tasty animals! Gonk and team hunt them all!

STAR: I ran across the watering hole, but was unable to decipher its mysteries. Next, I shall try my Conversing With Soup Jutsu!

LYNDSAY: This is every explorer's dream come true! I'm actually exploring the inside of someone's mind! I can't wait to be the first to draw a map of Dr. F's brain!

ZOE: Ah, chere, I'm afraid missing robots is not my area of expertise. Where is the best place to find a robot?

BUDDY: Rook muttered something like "Didn't you already find it?" and told her the toy store.

MAGELLAN: Chitter, chitter, chitter!

HOPPER: We figured it out! Morcu Corp was dumping waste into my watering hole, which made my broth heavy and my sproinging weak! I have a new watering hole now, and *SPROING!* I'm better than ever!

ALEXA: Unbelievable! Your agents have successfuly recovered the records of Dr. F's full name! I've begun the process of extracting your team from the brain dive. Once I've read their report, I'll forward the findings to your dispatch officer. Thank you, Rook!

ZOE: Very cute, chere. There were many robots at the toy store. They even make sounds and light up! Were you wasting my time on purpose?

BUDDY: Rook said something like, "I don't know, were you wasting my time on purpose by asking me where to find a robot after you deactivated the one you were looking for?''

GONK: Delicious hunting trip massive success! Gonk glad you send team. Now time to eat!

DR. F: Failure! Your team was unsuccessful in retrieving my F-Bot. It's still out there, pretending to be me! It may even be doing mad science!! Or even worse, sane science!

ROOK: WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? Did I misread that one text?

BUDDY: She checked her message history.

ROOK: "The Magnetar had no trouble disabling F-Bot!" How did they freaking fail?!

BUDDY: We returned to HQ for debriefing.

JENNY: The team didn't capture the robot and Dr. F is still crazy. Another average day at HQ... But you fed Gonk! Nice job, especially considering that guy's appetite. He sent a treadmill, a gargoyle, and an ivy trellis. He offers his services. Oh, yeah, so you found out Dr. F's name. Big whoop. Oh, and that Alexa chick wanted me to tell you that the 'F' really does stand for "Robots." I don't get it. Nevertheless, she sent a spooky sofa, a smart coffee table, and paints that look like metal plates. ...Morcu Corp was tainting Hopper's broth? It's like when the space-marmots wanted to shoot their trash at Starcruiser X. And now we can recruit Hopper, and he sent a natural looking bed and an organic paint.

GONK: Me Gonk. Me ready to swing big club at crime. Gonk work for food, or very shiny rocks. You hire Gonk?

2 Nature, 3 Athletic.

HOPPER: Sproing! Hiya, Rook! Ribbit! I noticed your team of agents is woefully lacking in frogboys. I can help with that!

2 Nature, 2 Athletic, 1 Charismatic.

Hmm...well, Dr. F did mention something about a timeline reversal, so I guess that might be why the robot-catching operation didn't work. Anyways, it's good to hear from you again; I find your commentary on some of this game's more...interesting dialogue to be both appropriate and hilarious.

Oh, and I should probably request some missions now, right? I admit that I feel a tad odd if I'm the only troper that does so, but I suppose that the show must go on. Plus, like with this new update, it'll give us a chance to see agents in situations an average player probably wouldn't put them in. I think only one agent substitution is needed for my four picks, but I suppose anything goes if someone else comments...hey, at least it's more interesting that way!

Magical Assistant - Star, Magellan, Mike

Penguin Style - Annie, Lyndsay, Carl

Train Jimmy - Agent Vic, Beebee, Liberty

Trouble with Truffles - Zoe, Leaf, Hopper
