episode 15: bright season

The episode image is of Kagami is a sailor fuku, mild frown, right outer wrist on hip, left eye closed, and left arm hidden.

trials of the beginner - continued

Tsukasa's been bought a new cellphone. Konata advises her not to put it in the laundry. Tsukasa puts it in her shirt pocket, so she'll notice it. Someone calls for her ro help out with something, but when she bends forward to get up, it falls out onto the floor...

secret little box

Konata notices Kagami's cell phone, and looks at her contact list, remarking on how many people are in it. (Probably her parents, her sisters, Konata, Miyuki, Ayano, and Misao, for starters.) Kagami admonishes her not to look without asking. Konata asks if it's because she has texts or contacts she doesn't want her to see. Kagami says she doesn't, but felt she should say so. Konata comes to the conclusion that it must be a guy, which Kagami denies forcefully.

just a smaller version

Later that day (judging from the clothes being the same; Lucky Star doesn't have that whole unusually Limited Wardrobe thing), Kagami is calling Konata's cell, but isn't being answered, so she tries the landline. Konata answers, and Kagami starts by telling her to answer her cell every so often. Problem is, Konata's ringer is turned off. Kagami thinks it's pointless if you don't know you're being called. Other problem is, she doesn't know where it is, making it even more pointless in Kagami's eyes.

waiting time

Kagami starts to get to the point: she wants to talk about the upcoming beach trip, but Konata is paged, and scolded for talking too long on the phone. Kagami thinks she had had a mistaken impression of her household being lenient about phone time, and is ready to mentally correct it, but it's just that they were in the middle of a fighting game, and she didn't say anything when she went to answer. Kagami tells her to mention things like that earlier.

no distinction

Konata is gaming online, and notices her teacher logging in. She types that the connection rate is really good, and asks if she wants to go hunt things. Kuroi says it's fine, but asks if she's done her homework, and if she's been cooped up inside. She gives some other school-related admonishments, and Konata doesn't want to hear about the real world every time they meet in a net game.

chaperone

It's time to go on the aforementioned beach trip! Konata is trusting her older cousin and her teacher to guide and drive them. She also points out that that have a lot of time on their hands.

position and instinct

Kagami apologizes to Narumi for bringing her out there on her day off, but she's fine with it. Apparently, while Yui is sometimes called upon to patrol matsuri, she's actually in traffic safety. However, when passed, "some strange switch" turns on inside her...

miscalculation

In Kuroi's vehicle, Konata explains about her cousin's driving, and remarks that the Hiiragi tswins are the "human sacrifices". Kuroi thinks it unusual for a police officer. Then she notices that they've gotten separated. Then she keeps going down the wrong street. Konata realizes that both of them were the wrong pick. (Though really, what would have been better? Her dad? Definitely not, though not because of his driving...)

result

They've made it to the beach, but now it's time to look for an inn.

aimed shot

Tsukasa thinks the day perfect for a swim in the sea. Kagami, who doesn't have her hair up yet, wondered yesterday what would happen to them. Konata says she's going to put her bathing suit on before they leave. Kagami starts to ask if she's going to be a little girl like that, but then sees that the bathing suit she's wearing is a school swimsuit, and asks if she's serious.

just like back then

Kagami hadn't heard of anyone her age wearing a school swimsuit in public, but Konata points out that there are "needs" for things like that. Kagami doesn't think people with such needs would go to the beach. Then she notices that this swimsuit... is from when she was in sixth grade, five years ago!

girls with eyeglasses

Konata notices that Miyuki wears her glasses even to the beach. If fact, she always wears them except when sleeping or bathing. Konata gets the idea to remove Miyuki's glasses. She was imagining Miyuki with the 3s where her eyes would be, though she knew it probably wouldn't be that way. Miyuki apologizes for not meeting expectations.

fixtures of summer

(Which is the title of anime episode 6.)

Konata remarks how splitting watermelons seems common in manga and anime, but not much in reality. Kagami, who has her hair up in ox horns, has seen it before, but guesses it feels like a waste, and watermelon's a little expensive. She asks Miyuki if she's done it, but she hasn't, but she'd heard it used to be more common. Konata wonders if the rich are even less likely to have done so. Kagami wonders if it's more likely to be done when there's a large group.

that's not it

Konata is burying Tsukasa in the sand as Kagami and Miyuki look on. (Kagami's wearing a two-piece, as you can see her bellybutton, but she's so far off, you can't get a good look. You can't tell what Tsukasa or Miyuki are wearing. In the anime, the Hiiragi twins wear one-pieces, but in exchange, Miyuki wears a bikini, and you get a better view of her.) The two adults watch them. Nanako has an Asahi, and Yui has barbequed corn. Nanako remarks how they have it lonely, going to the beach with an all-girls group to chaperone, and that it's down to them hitting on guys... except that Yui's already married, and and could only come because she has a Marriage, Definition(s) of commuter marriage. She doesn't seem to say this out loud, though...

summer dream

Konata notes that while the beach is a mecca for picking girls up, but they don't have anything going for them. Kagami figures it's good, because they're not being annoyed... and she points out that with Konata among them, the guys probably think they're sisters on vacation, making them hard to approach.
