What you gotta know first
Valkyria Chronicles, released in 2008 by, is a Turn-based/Real-time Strategy game for the PS3
. This game was critically acclaimed, with gorgeous graphics, fun gameplay, and interesting characters.
But of course, nobody
bought the damn game when it came out. Despite the praise put upon it, it was quickly overlooked by other, more talked about PS3
games, And it stayed that way for some time, with IGN even "awarding" it "Best Game No One Played" award. Eventually, a price drop and word of mouth by the people who bought the game would give this game the attention it deserves.
Set in an alternate timeline of Earth in 1935, the game starts in the middle of a war across the continent of Europa, Europe's analogue, between the villainous Autocratic East Europan Imperial Alliance, and the not-as-bad-but-still-pretty-dickish Atlantic Federation. The cause of this war is the ever dwindling supply of Ragnite, the mineral that runs just about everything. Deciding it needs a little pick me up, the Empire looks to the Principality of Gallia, who is rich in the ore...
What did you mean by Turn-Based/Real-time up there?
Simple, the game utilizes the BLiTZ*
battle system, which breaks up the combat into two steps: An overhead map to select unit's with called Command Mode, and the actual movement, attacking, and positioning of a unit called Action Mode. Utilizing Command Points, you select your units and use them to make the other guys fall down. After you run out of CP, the enemy take a turn to do the same. Repeat as necessary. Simple enough?
What do you mean by "Splintered Horn run"?
It's a self imposed challenge. The rules are kinda like the (in)famous Nuzlocke rules for Poke'mon, except instead of pocket monsters, it with dudes using guns and grenades.
My rules are as follows:
- Any Unit that is downed must be recovered that exact turn.
- If they are rescued, then I can use them, but not for the remainder of the current mission and the next one.
- If they are not recovered that turn, then they are dead. I can still rescue them, but after the mission, I must immediately remove them from the squad line-up.
- I can not reload to a previous save to rescue them.
- The game's use of final death still applies. (After three turns, or an enemy gets to them, they die permanently.)
LAST SECOND EDITED RULE: Any character that owns a Command Point is exempt from all but the first and second rule. It would be too hard otherwise.
