1* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: One can read the fable with the troll as the protagonist, which can change the moral to something along the lines of "you shouldn't just keep waiting for something better to come along."
2* FridgeLogic: Why would the troll let the first goats pass? After they tell him that the next goat is on the way, why not just eat them and wait for the next one? Sure, he still would have gotten trounced by the third goat, but he would have died with a full stomach. Perhaps he just didn't see the first goat as worth the effort of eating and believed the second one was, and then believed the third one was even more worth the effort. If that's the case, we can only assume trolls in this setting are pathetically easy to fool. Either that, or they don't really think things through.
3* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: Even if you've never heard of Creator/AsbjornsenAndMoe or most of the tales they collected, there's a good chance you might be familiar with this particular tale.
4* [[MisBlamed Misattributed]]: Due to it being one of the most known [[OverlyNarrowSuperlative Norwegian fairy tales]] outside of its [[GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff native country]], this particular tale is sometimes included in "Grimm Brothers Fairy Tales" printings or attributed to the Brothers Grimm.
