* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Is Rosie a sweet, loving woman who needs to learn to control her child or a hysterical, irresponsible idiot? Is Harry a vile child abuser or a jerk who was in that instant justified in disciplining a bratty child?
* CatharsisFactor: In the US version, the Judge eventually gives both parties a good dressing down during her verdict. It's pretty satisfying, particularly if you consider Rosie TheScrappy.
* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** Manolis is generally considered the most likeable character, since he's not as manipulative as the rest. Even when he manhandles Aisha and goes to a brothel, he's still not the worst person in the series. Since everyone around him is so overbearing, a lot of the audience will see him as just a regular guy struggling to handle the melodrama.
** From the American remake: The judge in the final episode. She makes an apt assessment of the situation and lets Rosie know that even though she wins this case, the judge still gives her a dressing-down, going as far as to make Rosie feel guilty by pointing out that while she was milking her son's abuse, far worse things have been going on in the world like the rape of a 9-year-old girl concerning her next case. She also makes it very clear to the parents that just because they ''won'' the case, that doesn't mean they're completely off the hook, deciding in her verdict to send Child Protective Services to their home and making it crystal-clear that the next time Hugo either hurts someone or is hurt, they can and '''will''' be held responsible to the full extent of the law.
* FetishRetardant: Hector and Aisha's birthday nookie in the kitchen. Where they prepare food. That their children eat.
* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments: When Hector's son fights with his sister after she called him a fat pig. We're then treated to a full-body shot of the portly boy sitting on a bean-bag eating chips and playing video games. Even Hector could see the irony in that moment.
* HarsherInHindsight: The scene where during his disastrous attempt to apologise to Gary and Rosie for said slap, Rosie blasting Harry on how he treats his wife can be uncomfortable to watch after it is revealed that Melissa George (who played Rosie) recently separated from her partner due to allegations of domestic abuse.
* JerkassWoobie: Harry and Rosie to some people.
* MemeticMutation: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHZvUeAdzeI The Slap Part 2]] comedy skit from Open Slather has garnered a huge amount of popularity on the internet, easily becoming the most known skit form that show. The skit escalates the initial premise and involves the main character slapping the child, the parents, the party goers, the police, a cat on a tree, and then the narrator. It's been the source of countless edits usually with a {{Memetic Badass}}'s face imposed on the slapper and a variety of their victims imposed on all the people getting slapped. It's gotten to the point where [[ParodyDisplacement quite a lot of people are more familiar with that skit than the show it was made to parody]].
* SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome: The ReasonYouSuckSpeech the judge at in the American remake gives to the parties involved. The speech in full:
-->"Last night, I went over the arguments we've heard in anticipation of a ruling. And I realize that when you boil it all down, somehow we've spent days debating whether or not a five-year-old boy was holding a bat when an adult struck him. Then I realized maybe it's not about that at all. It might have been just as easily about the New York State statute "neglect by parents due to inebriation or inattention."
-->Too bad it took the near death of a 17-year-old kid to tell us what it's actually about: Kindness, or the lack thereof, which we cannot adjudicate in this court. Still, I have a job to do.
-->Mr. Apostolou, I find you guilty of attempted assault of a minor in the third degree. I'm sentencing you to time served, the time you spent in custody at your arraignment, because I'm not sure sending you to Riker's Island will make you any more repentant than you are now.
-->Mr. and Mrs. Weschler, before you leave this courtroom gloating, you can expect a visit from Child Protective Services. If there is another incident of your son potentially being harmed or harming someone else, you will be held responsible. Now, if you don't mind, I have three cases on my docket, one involving the rape of a nine-year-old girl. So go home and count your damn blessings.
-->Now get out of my courtroom."
* TheScrappy: Aisha and Rosie. Aisha is a sourpuss just looking for a reason to turn on Hector's family and look like a saint, while Rosie has a victim complex and tries to milk the incident for all it's worth.
* TakeThatScrappy: In the American version Rosie gets told off by the judge for being a negligent and indulgent parent who needs to get over herself and realise there's bigger problems worth caring about. Having Melissa George reprise the role makes it all the more satisfying.
* TooBleakStoppedCaring:
** The slapper is an aggressive, {{Jerkass}} bigot and little much else.
** The parents of the slapee are ineffectual, indulgent and lawsuit-happy, and their non-parenting led to their kid becoming an out of control brat.
** And in the middle is the closest the audience will get to TheEveryman... except he's busy cheating on his wife with the teen-aged babysitter.
** Long story short, in response to the "Whose side are you on?" tagline, it's very easy to TakeAThirdOption and say "Neither!".
