* CompleteMonster: Kurt Dierker first appears to be little more than an arrogant racing rival to Sean Devlin, merely hitting on Veronique and sabotaging Sean's car during a race. When Sean and his friend Jules plan to sabotage Dierker's own car in revenge, is it revealed that Dierker is actually an SS-Commandant for the Nazis, overseeing the occupation in Paris, in charge of torturing and executing any suspected spies and political prisoners. Dierker has Sean and Jules captured and tortured, before coldly shooting Jules in the head in front of Sean. During this scene, Dierker shows himself to be a total sadist, fondly caressing various implements of torture. Dierker is said to flay his torture victims alive when he's done with them; he is also in charge of the terror squads that are later set loose on Paris. It's discovered Dierker killed Jules to cover up the Nazi plot to create atomic weapons. When Sean wipes out the Nazi leadership and destroys their weapons factory, Dierker takes control of what's left of the Nazis before the people of Paris rise against them. When Sean tracks Dierker down to the Eiffel Tower, he witnesses Dierker forcing his men to kill themselves and each other and kills some of them himself for failing him.
* GameBreaker: The third sabotage perk, with which planting bombs while in disguise is not considered suspicious by the guards. It's also very easy if rather tedious to acquire, but at least it can only be acquired late in the game. Once you have it, you can drop a bundle of dynamite sticks two meters from a Nazi, light the fuse and leg it, and he'll just stand there and stare at it until it blows up in his face.
** For money, the ever present zeppelins that float over Paris are the single best target. Due to how the game is coded, each time a zeppelin is taken out, a new one is spawned in over another part of Paris almost instantly. As a result, a player can find an anti-aircraft gun that's out of street view, take out all the nearby nazi targets, and keep turning the gun counterclockwise, getting 500 contraband with every shot.
* HilariousInHindsight: You know how there are people who say that The Saboteur is Assassin's Creed set during [=WW2=]? While the given reason could be that all the major players were Templars, this game could pretty much BE the much requested AC: [=WW2=] game that's not going to be made.
** Just imagine that when Sean sneaks into a French crypt to retrieve a mysterious glowing treasure from the Nazis, he's really, all unwitting, recovering Napoleon's Apple.
* NightmareFuel:
**
**
** The Terror Squad, giant gasmasked super soldiers with immensely overpowered weapons. Towards the endgame, you'll see them a lot in areas still under Nazi control, sometimes only seeing a flash of their armbands or gas mask lenses before they tear you to shreds in seconds with a machinegun, shotgun or flamethrower - choose your poison. To make matters worse, their voices are incredibly distorted (think of the Combine from VideoGame/HalfLife2), making them sound like an alien monster rather than a human.
* PlayerPunch:
* PolishedPort: The PC port on GOG.com has fixed various issues that were present on the original retail and Origin releases, allowing it to run above 720p and make proper use of multi-core systems. This version also removes the infamous [=SecuROM=] copy protection.
** If you have the Origin version, there is a mod that converts it to the GOG version.
* RatedMForMoney: The game is rated M; however, as a bonus, if the game is bought new (instead of used), the player gets free DownloadableContent which makes the various strippers in-game topless, opens a special room so you can get lap dances, and brothels as safe houses during alarms.
* SidetrackedByTheGoldSaucer: Going around Paris and the surrounding countryside to destroy the Nazis' equipment and infrastructure will probably cause you to forget who some of the characters are by the time you get around to resuming the storyline missions. There's that much stuff to blow up. Though at least you're in theory doing the job you're supposed to be doing while focused on that, and it makes sense for you to do it in-character. The racing achievements? Not so much.
* ThatOneLevel: The 1st freeplay race, 'On Your Marks...Get Set...' has you race through the streets of Paris with a unforgiving time limit, lots of traffic, and German checkpoints. It is possibly the hardest mission in the game. Since it is necessary to unlock the other freeplay races and 4 perks, players either have to make do without those very useful perks or grit their teeth and try to complete the race.
