* AudienceAlienatingPremise: Much of the show's undoing came from its premise that portrayed being a Playboy Bunny as somehow being a liberating experience during the women's rights movement and change in gender attitudes in TheSixties, which was seen as missing the point. As one reviewer for ''[[Website/AVClub The AV Club]]'' stated in a review comparing the show with ''Series/PanAm'':[[note]]The quote is in the comments section in the linked article[[/note]]
-->'''[[https://tv.avclub.com/the-playboy-club-a-matter-of-simple-duplicity-1798169864 Meredith Blake:]]''' […] [D]o I have to point out how dressing up in a skimpy rabbit costume is slightly more degrading than wearing a powder blue suit? […] [Y]es, ''The Playboy Club'' is about 10 times worse because it's actually pretending that being a bunny was somehow a liberating experience.
* OvershadowedByControversy: Was short-lived mostly thanks to low ratings stemming from the controversies that the either the show was "pornographic", usually [[CowboyBebopAtHisComputer without having seen the show]], or because of its premise that portrayed being a Playboy Bunny as somehow being a liberating experience during the women's rights movement in TheSixties. The main actress, Creator/AmberHeard, was later swept up in her own controversy surrounding the Creator/JohnnyDepp domestic abuse case, saddling her with an extremely negative public perception and tainting a lot of her earlier work, especially ones where she's using her looks to her advantage.
* RetroactiveRecognition:
** Creator/CarrieCoon (Doris Hall) would go on to become more famous for playing Creator/BenAffleck's twin sister in ''Film/GoneGirl'' and star in [[Series/FargoSeasonThree Season Three]] of ''Series/{{Fargo}}''.
** Creator/LauraBenanti (Carol-Lynne), while already known at the time on the Broadway scene, would later become known to a broader audience for playing the dual role of Alura and her EvilTwin Astra on ''Series/{{Supergirl|2015}}'' (before Alura [[TheOtherDarrin was recast]] in season three by Creator/EricaDurance due to scheduling conflicts), and for playing Melania Trump on comedy skits on ''Series/TheLateShowWithStephenColbert''.
