* BrokenBase: Was [[spoiler:Sonia]] portrayed in-character [[spoiler:just before her death?]] Opinions differ. The author [[OrwellianRetcon went back and revised the relevant chapters]] in order to address this: while originally [[spoiler:she fully assumed a ToughLeaderFacade and showed NoSympathy to Kuzuryuu]], the rewrite has [[spoiler:her still smiling and trying to comfort the others and being far more sympathetic towards Kuzuryuu and Pekoyama]]. More emphasis is placed on the idea that [[spoiler:she felt she had no choice]], whereas the original version had [[spoiler:her declare she consciously made the decision to kill Pekoyama and still regarded it as the best choice]].
* FanNickname: For the Despair Fever victims: [[spoiler:"Nanameme" for Nanami and "Soudia" for Souda's "Sonia fever".]] The second being an odd case of being an InSeriesNickname prior to the first revision, as a MythologyGag for [[spoiler:Ishimaru's change into "Ishida"]] and an in-universe taunt about the similarities between the two cases from Monokuma to Togami.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** Togami's [[ArmorPiercingQuestion asking Sonia whether she'd make any sacrifice to protect the people of Novoselic]], when it becomes clear ''exactly'' how [[spoiler:Sonia-san]] answers it.
** Similar to the above, the second killer's motives become eerily similar to those of the second killer from ''VisualNovel/DanganronpaV3KillingHarmony''. [[spoiler:In both cases, the killer, who's in charge of a country, considers sacrificing the 12 remaining students an acceptable loss in order to protect an entire nation. Of course, while Sonia is unable to actively make that decision, Kirumi fights until the bitter end.]].
** While [[OrwellianRetcon thankfully averted now]], the original versions of [[WhamEpisode part 5 of chapter 3]] had shades of this since [[spoiler: both of Saionji's favorite victims, Mikan and Souda, were murdered at once making all of her past actions towards them ''much'' worse. Souda's death in particular had the extra issues of being explicitly labeled as a SacrificialLamb doomed to suffer an early death by his Japanese character profile (as a meta-joke in ''Danganronpa 2'') and Saionji in both the game ''and'' the fic itself (“You’re just a side character. You’ve lived too long anyway."), which made it being his actual fate here seem much less "funny" in addition to [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter being killed in a manner much to similar to how Ishimaru died in the first game]].]]
* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: [[Heartwarming/SystemRestore See its page here]].
* HilariousInHindsight:
** [[http://sysrestoreblog.tumblr.com/image/96500361278 In this line]], Mahiru advises Akane against entering an eating competition, when she had done so in this fic.
** On a [[BlackComedy darker]] note, [[http://sysrestoreblog.tumblr.com/image/96500131563 the "I may cause trouble here and there"]] throwaway line from the English localization comes off as quite the {{Understatement}} when you recall that [[spoiler:Sonia is the second killer in the fic]]. The author lampshades this by remarking "[[spoiler:trouble huh sonia]]".
** [[spoiler:"Soudia"]] becomes this when in the ''Super Danganronpa 2.5'' {{OVA}} included with ''VisualNovel/DanganronpaV3KillingHarmony'', [[https://danganronpa.wikia.com/wiki/File:Danganronpa_2.5_- _(OVA)_Nagito_with_his_classmates_in_Homeroom_(57).png Souda briefly took on Sonia's hair color and facial features]] when taking her role in acting out a conversation they had.
* JerkassWoobie:
** As much of a jerk as Kuzuryuu can be, it's hard not to feel sorry for him when [[spoiler:not only does Peko die in a particularly horrific manner, he ends up burning his hands trying to save her]]. Granted, he does bear some responsibility for this turn of events by [[spoiler:playing the game, but he didn't even want to go through with taking revenge on Koizumi]].
