----
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Balrog, thanks to Creator/MichaelClarkeDuncan's hammy performance, is considered to be one of the positive highlights even among people who dislike the film.
* FightSceneFailure: If you want a taste of what to expect (which is a lot), [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bjtfeq1t1Rc watch this film's version of Chun-Li's Spinning Bird Kick]], where she slowly kicks those around her without even doing the full splits, and her opponents fall down (as in not the direction they were kicked in) from kicks that clearly miss.
* HamAndCheese:
** Creator/MichaelClarkeDuncan as the gleefully evil Balrog. It's been said that, as a longtime fan of the games (with him even stating Balrog to be his favourite character), even ''he'' thought the script was ridiculous and decided he might as well just have fun with it, keeping as close to the game incarnation as he could in stark contrast to the InNameOnly approach that everyone else took.
** Chris Klein is a close second on the heroic side.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** Complaints about Bison having blonde hair suddenly became this as of ''VideoGame/StreetFighterV'', where [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epPou9RzeKM Bison's announcement]] came with him sporting a head of what appeared to be blonde hair. (It was later revealed that he's actually [[EvilOldFolks graying from age]].)
** Bison looking and acting similar to Geese Howard from the ''Fatal Fury'' series. Geese had once killed Terry's father and in turn was unintentionally killed by him. Terry then raised the boy Geese had abandoned. [[spoiler:At the end of this movie Bison falls out of a building much like Geese, but only dies once Chun Li breaks his neck and she consciously does so as his daughter watches. Chun Li then asks Nash to take care of her.]]
** Robin Shou is well known for playing Liu Kang in ''Film/MortalKombatTheMovie'', where he sought revenge against the main villain for killing his brother. Here he plays a mentor role to a character who also seeks revenge against the villain for killing a family member. Shou's involvement in the film as a whole is rather funny given the FandomRivalry between ''Street Fighter'' and ''Mortal Kombat''.
** Creator/NealMcDonough would later play [[Film/ResidentEvilWelcomeToRaccoonCity another Capcom villain]] who ''also'' received flak for being an InNameOnly version of their game counterpart.
* MoralEventHorizon: Even before he killed Chun-Li's father, Bison intentionally crossed it when [[spoiler: he killed his pregnant wife by giving her a bare-handed C-section to rid himself of his conscience.]]
* NightmareFuel: The backstory of how Bison rid himself of his conscience.
* QuestionableCasting:
** Seriously, ''[[Music/TheBlackEyedPeas Taboo]]'' as Vega?
** Also, Creator/KristinKreuk as Chun-Li and Neal [=McDonough=] as M. Bison. Kreuk is at least ''somewhat'' understandable, considering her popularity at the time from ''Series/{{Smallville}}''.
* {{Sequelitis}}: Though this really isn't so much a sequel then an attempted reboot, this film is considered this in comparison to ''Film/StreetFighter'', as at least that film is considered SoBadItsGood.
* SpecialEffectFailure: The effects on the movie, sparse as they are, are just bad, just slightly above Asylum level. The blatant stand outs being the energy ball Gen and Chun-Li use, which looks more like a dust bunny.
* TookTheBadFilmSeriously: Everyone but Michael Clarke Duncan and Chris Klein, it seems.
* TrappedByMountainLions: The entire subplot regarding Charlie Nash and Maya is almost completely unnecessary, doing very little to actually build on Chun-Li's plot until they just happen to collide by the climax.
* VideoGameMoviesSuck: The film is ironically distinctive in this regard by the fact that conceptually, it seems much of the film was trying to break from the stigma by being [[DarkerAndEdgier more dramatic]] than its predecessors. Unfortunately, not only did this attempt at gaining prestige fail to pan out, it also lacks [[SoBadItsGood any sort of camp value]] to make it noteworthy in its badness.
* VillainDecay:
** Vega is supposed to be the world's greatest assassin. But once he actually gets to fighting Chun-Li, the fight lasts exactly one minute from opening blow to closing taunt.
** Two mooks dealing with an enraged Chun-Li minutes later last almost half as long.
* WTHCostumingDepartment: M. Bison's appearance as a blonde man in a three-piece suit has been criticized as being incredibly boring, especially in comparison to his game counterpart. Some fans have noted that this appearance also makes him resemble [[VideoGame/FatalFury Geese Howard]].
