* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Music/WeirdAlYankovic's title song.
-->'''Weird Al''': ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7KMMxAQp8I It's the theme from Spy Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaard!]]'' ''[Weird Al's [[YourHeadASplode Head A Splodes]]]''
* FirstInstallmentWins: Of all the films that [[Creator/SeltzerAndFriedberg Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg]] actually had a significant part in writing -- their credit on the first ''Film/ScaryMovie'' apparently being mostly for contractual reasons -- this is the only one that was fairly well received by audiences ([[CriticalDissonance though critics still hated it]]). The fact that they didn't direct nor write the final screenplay -- Jason's father Rick Friedberg did -- probably helped.
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: The movie did okay in the States, bringing back a profit even if it was underwhelming, but did *huge* numbers internationally, especially in the UK, where it debuted at number one.
* HilariousInHindsight: General Rancor said to Dick Steele, while proclaiming what he believed to be the future of the Internet: ''"What's left of you will have to watch helplessly while I play Mortal Kombat with the entire world!"'' Eight years later ''VideoGame/MortalKombatDeception'', the first ''Mortal Kombat'' game to feature online gameplay, was released.
* JustHereForGodzilla: Nowadays, most people just watch this for Weird Al's opening song.
* OlderThanTheyThink:
** This film actually predated the first ''Film/{{Austin Powers|International Man of Mystery}}'' film by a year. However, most viewers felt it came across more like a fourth ''Film/TheNakedGun'' film than a ''Film/JamesBond'' spoof, meaning that ''Austin Powers'' actually ended up feeling fresher than this film. It certainly didn't help the fact that they cast Creator/LeslieNielsen as ''the freaking main character''!
** Like ''Austin Powers'', the film opens with a flashback showing the lead character working with his female partner, and then said partner's daughter follows her into the spy world following a TimeSkip (albeit Barbara Dahl ends up being a DamselInDistress, whereas Vanessa Kensington in ''Austin Powers'' was a HypercompetentSidekick).
* SpiritualSuccessor: This is supposed to be a Franchise/JamesBond parody but feels more like a fourth installment of ''Film/TheNakedGun'' series due in part to Creator/LeslieNielsen playing more or less the same character with a different name and different profession (a spy instead a cop).
* SuspiciouslySimilarSong: Bill Conti's score utilizes numerous parodies of famous movie music, including ''Film/HomeAlone'', ''Film/TrueLies'', ''Film/{{ET|The Extraterrestrial}}'', ''Film/InTheLineOfFire'', and ''Film/{{Speed}}''.
* TookTheBadFilmSeriously:
** While far from a "serious" movie, even the most vocal detractors praised Leslie Nielsen for actually trying to be funny.
** Being the master of parodies that he is, Weird Al sings the opening song with clear conviction and is regarded as one of the few parts of the film that most people can agree is actually funny.
