* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The entire tracks of this game is very epic for its time, such as [[https://youtu.be/R8vmbgwCOBQ Training]], [[https://youtu.be/PXCrw4tixyk Burglary Interrupted]], [[https://youtu.be/wXBegE0esHk Gangland]], [[https://youtu.be/ZAlYLNJyALk In Darkest Night]], and [[https://youtu.be/N5RjIx7aYHI Smoke Screen]][[note]]which also plays during the battle between Spider-Man and [[spoiler:Hyper-Electro]][[/note]].
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: In the second level, if you stand on the edge of the water and perform web yank on a fish, the game zooms to the fish with the caption "Fish Cam". It has seemingly no effect on anything.
* BrokenBase:
** There are fans who consider this game to be SoOkayItsAverage, especially in comparison to [[VideoGame/SpiderMan2000 the first game]], while there are fans who consider it to be more colorful, with the addition of more outdoor levels which allow you more web-swinging, plus actual "street-level" action in comparison to the first game's "fog of death" rendering you only able to survive at higher altitudes. This game also offers some more puzzles than the first one.
** The Boss characters choice in this game also generates polarizing opinions. Some criticize Vicarious Visions' decision of having obscure villains such as Hammerhead instead of more famous villains such as [[ComicBook/NormanOsborn Green Goblin]], while some others praise Vicarious Visions and call their decision as bold and appreciative toward those somewhat underrated characters in the rogues gallery.
* CantUnHearIt: Creator/DeeBradleyBaker's voice for Electro caught on for Marvel readers.
* GameBreaker:
** Impact web when used airborne; Spidey usually tosses them at nearby targets with little need for aiming, and it doesn't force him to a complete stop like on the ground. While it's useful in fights as well, it makes the infamous plane level much easier since Spidey can just keep moving and he auto-aims at everything on the plane's way.
** Beating the game twice in a row on normal difficulty unlocks all costumes from the previous game and their powers, exculding the Symbiote suit that's unlocked by beating the game on easy. Yes, ''all'' of them, including "Captain Universe" which comes with invulnerability. In contrast, the game's own invulnerable suit needs beating the game on hard.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** One of Spidey's quips is "I don't need pointy ears and a cape to figure out that this is probably another heist." So, how was [[WesternAnimation/TheBatman Gotham]], [[Creator/RinoRomano Spidey]]?
** Some of the game's events accidentally match future Spider-Man films:
*** It's the final installment of a Spider-Man franchise that features a fight with [[Film/SpiderMan3 Sandman on a construction site]].
*** The second Spider-Man installment features Electro as the BigBad. Are we talking about the video game or [[Film/TheAmazingSpiderMan2 the movie?]]
** Speaking of which, one of this game's Easter eggs is a bit where you get to play some basketball as Spidey, which is exactly what Andrew Garfield did, in-costume, with a group of neighborhood kids while making the above-mentioned movie.
* MemeticMutation:
** [[{{Mooks}} Mooks']] [[EvilIsHammy over-the-top]] [[NoIndoorVoice yelling/taunts at Spider-Man]], such as "You're dead, do-gooder!" or "Your swinging days are over!"
** "Tonight, Electro dances with the gods!" Makes it even better since Creator/DeeBradleyBaker voiced Electro.
* NightmareFuel: The Lizard. Everything about him. The boss fight with him is like something right out of one of the ''Franchise/{{Alien}}'' movies. The only way to beat him is to mix a serum to weaken him so that your attacks can actually hurt him. While you're making the serum on the computer, you need to lock him out of whichever room you're in. Trouble is, while you're doing this, he's breaking into the room. So you could be unexpectedly taken away from the computer due to him attacking you. You're also not safe on the ceiling, either, because he can stick to it as well. Hell, even the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ic2btBE3PE4 cutscene]] before the fight is scary. But perhaps the worst thing of all is Stan Lee's description for him in the character viewer, taken word-for-word from the first game. He sounds like his normal dynamic self when describing everyone else, but his emotionless rundown of The Lizard is pretty disturbing:
--> '''Stan Lee:''' The Lizard. Product of a twisted experiment...gone wrong.
* SugarWiki/NoProblemWithLicensedGames: Though it's not as great as the first game, it's certainly not a ''bad'' game, either, and is generally received positively even today.
* ScrappyMechanic:
** Most comics appear only on certain difficulties. So one has to play through kid mode to 100% the game. You can only change difficulty by starting a new game, but doing so resets your mission list, but fortunately keeps other unlockables.
** Speaking of kid mode, in-game cutscenes cannot be skipped on this difficulty. This was also the case in the previous game, but at least there kid mode wasn't required to unlock everything in the game.
* SequelDifficultySpike: ''Ohh'' yeah. Even the Invincibility effect does not help anymore due to how overpowered it was in the prequel video game. Here, Spider-Man's health bar does not decrease but he can ''still get staggered'' by mere punches; this makes climbing up the wall during one stage a nightmare, since getting hit by Electro's electricity attack will still send Spider-Man falling down from the wall, meaning the player has to start all over again.
* SoOkayItsAverage: Seems to be considered to be a decent MissionPackSequel with some interesting features, but it doesn't have a story with the same scale or memorable characters as the first one.
** This game's "What If?" mode is far less extensive than the previous game, and the mode-specific gags don't land quite as often. Most of them are just bananas applied to various situations; the first game used bananas all of once, and only as a VisualPun that made sense in the level it appeared in.
* ThatOneBoss: Arguably, every boss might count.
** [[spoiler:Shocker. Yes, you read that right.]] [[WakeUpCallBoss And he's the very first boss.]] Practically the only way you can defeat him (unless you've been granted invincibility) is to drop one of the above boxes on his head before the fire consumes the place. And he ''doesn't. Stop. Shooting at you.''
** Hammerhead can also be this, depending upon your reflexes and mastering of the web-yank technique. Also, unlike the fight against Rhino in previous game, Hammerhead's bull charge tends to follow your direction even after you jump out of the way, and you cannot trick Hammerhead into hitting the wall.
** Sandman. He can only be damaged by [[spoiler: spraying him with water and then attacking]]. Not helped by the fact that he can hit you from practically anywhere.
** [[spoiler:The Lizard]], but mostly because [[PersonalSpaceInvader he feels like he's attached to Spidey with a short rubber band.]] Even worse so if you're trying to beat him by [[spoiler:only using the serum on hard difficulty to unlock a costume.]]
* ThatOneLevel:
** "Wind Tunnel" (originally named "Crash Flight"), hands down the hardest non-boss in the game. [[spoiler:Spider-Man must blast away each (explosive) barrel in front of a moving plane with the pilot unconscious in the front seat. Through three rooms. And open the doors to each room. And web up both propellers ''and'', depending on the difficulty, web-yank the plane's tail. And the plane is ''still moving''. Good luck if you have a short supply of webbing!]]
** "Gangland" has several HostageSituation scenes that require Spidey to fight off Hammerhead's goons while ensuring civilians' safety. In Normal and Hard mode, the goons will not hesitate to execute the hostages on the spot just because they happen to see a glimpse of Spidey or hear his footsteps (which results in failure thus restarting the whole level). Therefore, Spidey's only way to win is [[spoiler:by crawling on the ceiling to avoid getting spotted, sneaking around and using auto-target for web impacts to instantly knock down the goons one by one.]]
** Appropriately, "The Gauntlet" (originally named "Aces High"), in which Spidey has to traverse a series of city rooftops, being constantly hounded by small drones and massive laser-turrets that can knock him out of the sky mid-web-swing if they happen to land a lucky shot on him. Think you can just ignore them all and go straight to the end? Nice try, you're constantly being pointed at by non-harmful lasers and must de-activate them all in order to finish the level. The problem? Almost every single laser is guarded by a turret, some by multiple at once, all of which take ''several'' hits to destroy.
** "Rock of Ages", where [[spoiler:Spidey needs to climb a (long) museum exhibit to get to Electro, all the while avoiding his attacks. The first attack is horizontal lines of electricity that every now and then pass through easily foreseen burnt sections. The problem is that it might ignore it's pattern to strike you. The second attack, where Electro strikes with lightning from above, is warned by spider-sense, and can be avoided by moving left or right, but the strike might hit Spidey anyway. Getting hit by either attack sends you back to the start 95% of the time. There are platforms to stand on, but most of the time Spidey falls past them.]]
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: One of the common complaints about this game is the obvious lack of Beetle (Abner Jenkins) in the game's actual gameplay despite appearing in the cutscenes retrieving suspicious-looking briefcases from Shocker and Sandman. His name isn't even included in Character Viewer.
* UnderusedGameMechanic: Freeze webbing is only available in two levels, and functions ''exactly'' like regular webbing just with different aesthetics.[[note]]Ironically, when Spider-Man developed a similar variant of webbing in the comics, he quickly abandoned it for that very reason.[[/note]] As such, it lacks the usefulness of both the previous game's fire webbing (which destoyed [[DemonicSpiders symbiotes]] with ease) and this game's electric webbing later on (which destroys mechanical enemies with ease).
