* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Edward brushes off Barney at the end of the film, barely even noticing his presence. This suggests that despite how Edward feels about Vivian, Edward may not have changed in the long term.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The soundtrack went triple-Platinum in the US. In addition to holding several popular standards (including the eponymous Music/RoyOrbison Song) as well as [[{{Music/Chicago}} Peter Cetera's]] "No Explanation", it had two top-ten singles: no. 1 song "It Must Have Been Love" by Music/{{Roxette}}, and "King of Wishful Thinking" by Go West.
* CriticalDissonance: A prime example. The film has never really been a critical darling, sporting just a barely-fresh 61% on Website/RottenTomatoes. Nevertheless, it was a box-office ''juggernaut'', grossing over $463 million dollars on a budget of only $14 million (equivalent to about $1.1 billion in 2023). In addition, Creator/JuliaRoberts was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance; this is somewhat ironic, considering some have argued that the movie's appeal lied in the fact that [[ItsNotSupposedToWinOscars it wasn't trying to be break new ground or make an artistic statement]].
* FanPreferredCutContent:
** There are some who would have preferred to have seen the original script, which was a darker and more realistic look at prostitution with no happy ending.
** There are also a few cut scenes that could easily work with the final version, expanding on characters and their motivations, without breaking the lighthearted tone. They were simply removed due to time constraints.
* GeniusBonus: The opera that Edward takes Vivian to is ''La Traviata'', which is about a prostitute who falls in love with a rich man.
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: An example befitting the trope name, this movie was the biggest box office earner in Germany during its year of release. So much that to this day it still remains in the top 15 highest grossing movies ever released in Germany. Its one of the frequently aired foreign movies on German television.
** In Spain, both cable and regular channels air this movie every year and it is common knowledge that whoever airs it in prime time has a big chance of getting the highest ratings of the day.
* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments:
** The entirety of the second shopping trip, from Edward being offended at the shop girls being mean to Vivian to the look of joy on her face as so many people treat her with respect and admiration, to the almost fatherly smile that Barney gives her when she returns to the hotel.
** When Edward and Vivian exit the hotel to go to the opera, every employee turns to look at her. The bellboys smile at her beauty, the desk clerks are impressed with how she cleaned up, and Barney is almost starstruck with being so proud of her.
* MoralEventHorizon: Phillip crosses this when he [[spoiler:[[AttemptedRape tries to rape]] Vivian]].
* TearJerker:
** Vivian breaks down when after Phil propositions her and reveals Edward told him about who she really is. It's a stark reminder that the previous week was still nothing but her hooking.
** Also Vivian and Kit saying goodbye, with Vivian encouraging Kit to get out of hooking.
