* BrokenBase:
** The film's design for the new Predators was met with varied reactions. In particular, the appearance of the Berserker Predator's face looks kind of ridiculous to some (its eyes are a little too far apart and its mouth claws are a bit too massive) and impressive and scary to others (unlike other Predators from previous films, you can read in its eyes that this being is ''evil'').
** The fact that the Berserker's mask officially has a Xenomorph chin grafted onto it turns the franchise into another iteration of ''Franchise/AlienVsPredator'', which has both its fans and detractors. Some believe it is cool and appropriate to bring back the best of the franchise for this movie, while others (particularly people who didn't like ''Film/AVPAlienVsPredator'' and/or its sequel, which are not few) think it would have been better to leave the good ol' Aliens out this time.
** The Berserker Predator [[spoiler: killing the Classic Predator]] has been met with decidedly mixed reception. Some even outright call it a subtle (or not) TakeThat to the original. On the other side, people point out that the [[spoiler:the Classic Predator manages to put up a major fight despite obviously not being in good shape and being a recently Blooded rookie, and that the Berserker has to cheat by using its Plasma Caster in a melee fight to win.]]
** Fans argue over whether this film or ''Film/Predator2'' is the better sequel.
* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** Hanzo, who is the most quiet of the group and the least focused on. [[spoiler:Beating a Predator one-on-one with a katana will have that effect.]]
** Nikolai, for being one of the more sympathetic group members (whose biggest crime seems to be simply serving in the Russian special forces), having several great moments of MoreDakka with his minigun and also [[spoiler:managing to take out the first Predator with a landmine, while spouting a PreMortemOneLiner in his native language]].
* SugarWiki/HeReallyCanAct:
** Granted, nobody had questioned Adrien Brody's acting chops - what with him being the youngest person to ever win an Oscar for Best Actor - but he didn't exactly scream "action hero." And yet, here we are.
** Similarly, Topher Grace was never seen as a bad actor, but [[spoiler: his turn as Edwin after the reveal of his true nature, effortlessly going from his usual nerdy sarcastic charm to fully believable cold-blooded sadism, surprised everyone with how genuinely chilling he was.]]
* MagnificentBastard: [[UnscrupulousHero Royce]] is a cold, ruthless mercenary who quickly takes charge of a group of seasoned killers that have been dropped on an alien game reserve planet. He formulates several pragmatic plans to get out of troubling situations, such as using the group as bait to draw out the Predators to figure out their capabilities, and setting off an explosive to lure in the Predators when the group is trapped by a crazed madman. Quickly deducing that the seemingly harmless Edwin is actually a SerialKiller, Royce paralyzes him with his own poison, using him as bait for the Berserker Predator, and makes use of brilliant combat tactics against the ensuing fight with the Berserker to come out on top.
%%* MemeticMutation: Stans and Edwin's "bitch-raping time" dialogue.
* MoralEventHorizon: Many of the characters crossed it before the film even began, which is implied to be part of why they were chosen as game in the first place.
** Cuchillo kidnapped and burned people alive for crime syndicates in Mexico for money, and has the gall to call Stans out on killing people out of sadism and not for the paycheck. Speaking of whom..
** Stans has killed 38 people because, as he said, "why not?" The "bitch-raping time" comment is also suggestive...
** Noland has survived for many seasons on the game reserve planet by degenerating into a serial killing beast fitting right into the jungle.
** [[spoiler: Edwin turns out to be one of the most prolific murderers in the whole group, as he was a serial killer who loved killing so much that he's bent on staying on the hunting planet, and tries to torture and kill Isabelle despite the fact that she saved his life many times and was nice to him even when she never had to be.]]
* MoneyMakingShot: Royce covered in Predator lasers in the trailer. Too bad that it ended up being a magnificent example of NeverTrustATrailer.
* OneSceneWonder: Maybe not quite one scene, but come on, Creator/LaurenceFishburne as Noland is easily one of the best bits of the film. Especially one of his first lines, in which Royce asks what the hell he is and he simply whispers, ''"[[IncomingHam I'm aliiiiive.]]"''
* RetroactiveRecognition: The Sierra Leonean death squad member is played by future Oscar-winner Creator/MahershalaAli.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter:
** Noland stuck on an alien planet, dodging the Yautja, killing them and turning their own technology against them, and going more-or-less insane in the process? That guy could've had a whole movie of his own! It's generally agreed by fans upon that Noland could've been used far better than he was.
** The characters besides Royce, Isabelle, Edwin and Stans don't get much development or notable interactions with each other. Indeed most conversations involve one of the four and never the others speaking amongst themselves.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: According to Noland, and as seen earlier in the film, the Predators use the planet as a game preserve not just for humans, but also for dangerous aliens all over the galaxy. It would've been really interesting to see scenes of the Predators hunting other creatures, even from afar, but sadly we never get it.
* SignatureScene: Hanzo's duel with the Falconer is the most popular and recognizable scene in the film.
* SoOkayItsAverage: The general consensus is that, while the film wasn't a turning point in the franchise and definitely wasn't shocking anyone with a sudden jump in quality, it was at least a decent installment with some interesting characters and points.
* SurprisinglyImprovedSequel: ''Predators'' is considered much better than the ''Franchise/AlienVsPredator'' films and received better reviews overall than ''Film/Predator2'', though there are some fans who feel ''Predator 2'' is the superior sequel.
* TooCoolToLive: Almost all the characters who bite it get this. [[spoiler: Most notably Noland and Hanzo who both have some pretty badass moments. Others such as [[NotAfraidToDie Mom]][[Creator/MahershalaAli basa]], [[Creator/DannyTrejo Cuchillo]], and [[HeroicSacrifice Nikolai and Stans]]]] were also well liked by fans.
* VindicatedByHistory: While nobody's going to call it the best film in the franchise, fan opinion has grown much warmer in recent years, noting that it's quite a decent movie in its own right and quite respectful to the original, just simply not quite as good. It helps that the movie tries to be interesting by reversing the situation of the original film, so instead of a Predator going to Earth to hunt, the Predators kidnap people and make them fight on an alien world, which makes it feel more unique since it means the characters have to react differently than the characters of the previous movies. This opinion-shift kicked into overdrive after the release of the [[ContestedSequel highly controversial]] [[Film/ThePredator fourth film]].
