!!The band:

* ArchivePanic: '''Twenty studio albums'''. Though a good deal of fans will agree that you can skip most of the albums from [[AudienceAlienatingEra the 1993-2007 period.]]
* AudienceAlienatingEra: Most fans will agree that ''I Hear Black'' kicked off the start of one; while certain albums from that general era will get a pass (''Necroshine'' and ''Killbox 13'' being common, as well as ''W.F.O.'' to a lesser degree), it is more or less universally agreed upon that the 1993-2007 output was by far their weakest (''Immortalis'' often being picked out as a particularly weak link), and that they triumphantly left this era with the widely-beloved ''Ironbound''.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: E-LIM-IN-A-TION!! Not just that, but ''The Years of Decay'' is this as a whole.
* CoveredUp: Their cover of "Fuck You" is far more famous than the original.
* NeverLiveItDown: Their abrasive attitude and the infamous [[DigitalPiracyIsEvil "Fuck anybody who downloads our music"]] Facebook post are one things people will mention about Overkill.
* SeasonalRot: ''The Wings of War'' was viewed as this from the moment that it was released; while few fans think it's a truly ''bad'' album, the general consensus is that it is modern Overkill by numbers that keeps the same tempo for the bulk of the album to its overall detriment. The very punk-flavored "Welcome to the Garden State" is particularly divisive: it's either a rollicking good time and one of the best songs of their modern era, or it's a distractingly out-of-place track that sounds like it was written for a different album and clumsily shoehorned in.
* SignatureSong: "Rotten to the Core", "Hello from the Gutter", "Elimination", and "Fuck You" are by far their most famous songs.
* SoOkayItsAverage: Another common opinion of most of their material from ''I Hear Black'' up until ''Immortalis'', with the possible exception of ''Immortalis'' itself: perfectly serviceable groove metal that is rarely downright bad but is rather by-the-numbers. ''The Wings of War'' also tends to average out to this among their ''Ironbound'' on material: though far from a bad album, it doesn't do much to stick out.
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: How some fans felt about the album ''I Hear Black'' and everything up to ''Immortalis'' with the exception of ''Killbox 13''.
* ToughActToFollow: ''The Electric Age'' averts this. The general consensus is that it's not as good as ''Ironbound'' before it, but it's still very awesome. Kinda played straight with ''White Devil Armory''; while it's not hated by any means and is generally viewed as a perfectly good album, it's also generally regarded as being decidedly inferior to the preceding two. Played even straighter with ''The Wings of War'', which followed the very well-loved ''The Grinding Wheel'' and was met with a generally chilly reception, and has already been called the worst 2010s Overkill release.
* WinBackTheCrowd:
** ''Ironbound'' won them back a ''lot'' of fans who had given up on them after a long string of polarizing albums, in particular being preceded by a strong contender for their least-liked album. ''Killbox 13'' was a minor example as it was a return to their original sound exhibited on their debut album, ''Feel the Fire''.
