* AccidentalInnuendo: The way that the [=Ez8=] pulls out the Beam Saber in the Blu-Ray short. Did it really have to hold it pointing from its ''crotch''?
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Chihiro Yonekura's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMfEQm4ZttI Arashi no naka e Kagayaite]], the first OP.
** And the HotBlooded cover by [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3YQsB8ALEE Masaki Endoh]].
** To celebrate [[Franchise/{{Gundam}} Gundam's]] 40th anniversary in year 2018, [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NHK NHK]] conducted a global poll in ranking all Gundam works in different catagories. ''Arashi no naka e Kagayaite'' ranked 5th place for Best Theme Song of the entire franchise.
* BaseBreakingCharacter:
** Ghinias Sahalin. Some fans hate him for feeling that his evil actions mess with the show's GreyAndGrayMorality, while others view him as a TragicMonster or JerkassWoobie.
** Shiro Amada. Some fans would have preferred a more realistically "unaware" character like [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam0080WarInThePocket Bernie]], but others enjoy him for his compassionate personality and his devoted love to Aina. Him peeping on an underage girl and abandoning his comrades in the middle of battle for an enemy soldier he barely knew doesn't help endear him to some people either.
* BrokenBase: The Gunpla community is split between the original [[http://dalong.net/review/old/083/083.htm 1998 HG version of the Ez8]] versus the [[http://dalong.net/review/hg/h155/h155_i.htm 2013 HGUC version]]. While normally 15 years of progress make the comparison obvious, the original version has some features that give it a unique advantage over the HGUC, specifically an opening cockpit and maintenance hatch on the chest, a figurine of Shiro Amada, and plastic buckles for the parachute pack. The HGUC version lacks these (it uses stickers for the parachute pack), though its detail, color accuracy, and articulation are considerably better, though with a higher listing price. The base is sharply divided on which is the better version.
* CompleteMonster: [[YMMV/MobileSuitGundam Prince Gihren Zabi]]. See that page for details.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Norris Packard is an honorable old soldier who is as loyal as he is awesome, and that's why we love him despite him getting relatively little screen time.
** An even odder one: an unnamed Zeon woman who [[OneSceneWonder only appears to report on Norris' signal to launch the Kergeren]]. Her cute looks and being used as a Zeon operator in various games led to a fan following on 2chan who dubbed her Kergerenko which caused her to appear in MORE games and even as part of the promotional material for said games.
* FanficFuel: Ginias's lightly-touched FreudianExcuse and what little backstory was given for him and his sister are just enough to get fans' word processors put to use on occasion. The fact that some fans think Ginias might've been an abused child (extrapolated from the implications of their family being dysfunctional and the belief that his breakdown was fueled by deep-rooted trauma instead of purely biological factors) doesn't help. Needless to say, Ginias probably has the greatest risk of becoming a DracoInLeatherPants out of the cast.
* FanonDiscontinuity: Some fans felt that the last scenes of episode 11 made for a satisfactory BittersweetEnding and ignore episode 12's DistantFinale for having [[spoiler:Michel and Kiki reunite with Shiro and Aina instead of Shiro and Aina living happily but never seeing the other cast members again]].
* JustHereForGodzilla: For many fans, the main selling point of the series is the stark realism of the mecha compared to the rest of the franchise.
* MemeticMutation:
** [[BloodFromTheMouth Space]] [[SoapOperaDisease Aids.]] [[labelnote:Explanation]] This was the name notorious Website/FourChan shitposter A.r. (playing the role of a {{Fangirl}} who is particularly obsessed with ''08th MS Team'') coined for Ghinias' SoapOperaDisease. It eventually became a nickname for Ghinias himself. [[/labelnote]]
** In late March 2019, [[https://twitter.com/kusokaisetu/status/1111295743996760064 This piece of fanart]] based on one of the opening's shots also became a meme by Twitter artists, which they redraw the scene with other Gundam-type or other Mecha units from other series.
** [[WesternAnimation/GoofTroop REPORT TO THE]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPqomrYO960 GOUF]] [[https://youtu.be/8CXgTJp8EeM TROOP!]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]Having scenes of Norris Packard's Gouf Custom synced to the Goof Troop theme song, and also because Gouf and Goof sounds the same.[[/labelnote]]
* MoralEventHorizon:
** Ginias jumps off the deep-end in the last quarter of the series, starting with [[spoiler:blowing up Kellarny and his men]] when they attempted to leave the planet. This was after he denied them aide in evacuation.
** Captain Ethan Ryer crosses it when he orders the 07th MS Team into the mineshaft without checking for traps. The action was done less out of carelessness and more under the hope that their GM's would trigger the bombs and go nuclear to wipe out the Zeon base.
* NightmareFuel: Your Mech has been disabled and its sensors destroyed, leaving you trapped in the coffin-like cockpit, completely blind as to what's going on outside, while you are absolutely aware that the enemy [[TheAce ace]] is standing right there ready to kill you like he has the last three opponents he faced in the last ten minutes. [[NothingIsScarier Nothing happens.]] Cue minor FreakOut.
** And then there was the wonderful time where you bear witness to the gas attacks as seen in ''VideoGame/GihrensGreed''. Made even worse if one actually knows what nerve gas does and realizes that scene is itself something of GoryDiscretionShot.
** As Ghinias loses his sanity and his health declines as well, [[SanitySlippage he becomes more and more unhinged.]] For some, this makes him utterly dispicable; for others, [[TragicMonster it makes him tragic]]. There's no discussion on how ''creepy'' it is, and Creator/ShowHayami's superb voice acting does ''not'' help.
* TheScrappy: Michel get a fair share of hate from most of the fandom for being perceived as a whiny and inexperienced kid.
* SignatureScene: The Gouf fight against the 8th MS Team is considered this, due to the brutality and skill Norris Packard used to fend off and destroy 3 guntanks.
* StrangledByTheRedString: Aina and Shiro. Meeting each other once in space was all it took for Shiro and Aina to get hooked between one another.
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks:
** In the case of the Blu-Ray release; while ''some'' of the enhanced sound effects are praised, The majority of the changes (like the original Machine Gun's sound effects) has been mostly lambasted by the fans who grew up with the original sounds.
** On the merchandise side: Japanese modelers criticized the HGUC GM Ground Type's head for a slight redesign that reduces the height of the visor, resulting in a slightly squinty look compared to the anime. Perhaps in response, the webshop exclusive HGUC Gundam Ground Type Parachute Pack included a GM head with more anime-accurate visor proportions.
