1* HarsherInHindsight: Jim says in his closing statement that the Prohibition era made criminals look like folk heroes, but now it's over and they should go with it. One of those folk hero criminals was of course John Dillinger.
2* {{Narm}}: Jim and Blackie losing their parent figures twice in just a few minutes of screentime, with the exact same melodramatic performances. At least you can say the film is delivering on its title right off the bat.
3* OvershadowedByControversy: The film became famous through its association with the death of notorious gangster John Dillinger, who was gunned down by FBI agents outside the Biograph Theater after watching it there. Even today, the circumstances of Dillinger's death eclipses the film itself.
4* RetroactiveRecognition: Blackie as a kid? Creator/MickeyRooney!
